Hello!

Just checking in quickly. Thanks all. No, I think my fears were premature, she is just having a general whinge about money, but has certainly not expected anything from me. We are having chicken with all trimmings tonight (in oven now) and we stopped off from the station at the pub and she insisted on buying. I think it was general conversation rather than expectation.

I have to regain my faith and to stop being so old and cynical!

Thanks everyone for being so kind as to let me vent (again!).

Therealamandaclarke · 17/09/2013 19:10

Hi wellies hurrah!
Have a great time.

twinkle forget those 2lb. The scales play tricks when you're weighing often. You've been doing really well.

rules your breakfast reports are killing me Grin with your description of buttered toast and marmalade. Salty butter. Is that just salted butter, as in, not ""unsalted"? Or am I missing out on a welsh specialty?
Because it just sounds yummy.

Hazelbrowneyes · 17/09/2013 19:34

Amanda the BEST way to eat a bread roll is with unsalted butter with sea salt sprinkled on top. OMG it's drool-worthy.

Sorry, bit off topic there and I have no idea how rules eats her toast but salted butter is amazing on toast. Also excellent in chocolate cake IMO.

Oh and salted caramel? Drooooooool.

I need to stop thinking about salt and sweet stuff. Seriously.

Had another bad food day - will post properly tomorrow when not on phone.

Therealamandaclarke · 17/09/2013 20:10

I do love salted butter.

I ate an apple and half a banana around 2 o'clock. Resisted the toast this morning despite making it for everyone else Envy
Then I had beef stew with mash and green beans. Mini magnum, 2 biscuits. Just had a mug of hot chocolate and 3 mini chocolate bars from a variety pack I unwisely bought today.
I'm not sure where my resolve has gone. I am very tired and a bit stressed. Perhaps that's it.
Just realised I've had two evenings out with DH in the last 3 years. none in the last year. Grin I shouldn't complain, I know.
Ah well, tomorrow is another day.
I really want to stay away from the snacks. Grrrrrrrr.
Just desperate for sleep.

Therealamandaclarke · 17/09/2013 20:10

DD clearly has other ideas.

Rules · 17/09/2013 20:11

Ladies, the butter is Dragon Welsh Salted butter and it is very salty, yellow and very rich and delicious. I put it on my welsh jackets and use it to cook all my cakes etc. I love salted caramel, salted fudge, salted pretzels covered in chocolate, M & S Salted caramel nuts. Oooooooo.

Today I have had:

2 poached eggs on toast with said salty butter
half a croque monsieur sandwich without the ham
2 mini crunchie bars
chicken mini fillets in soy and maple syrup (crunchie and sticky) with
fried potatoes with red pepper and onions in olive oil
and baby leaf and rocket salad with balsamic, honey and sesame seed oil dressing.
Lots of cups of tea

Therealamandaclarke · 17/09/2013 20:16

Oh. Mini crunchier bars! Thst's what I had.
And a chomp Blush

Rules · 17/09/2013 20:21

I love those little mini bars cause you have all the pleasure without having to eat (sigh) a big normal bar ha ha!

twinklestar2 · 18/09/2013 10:03

Another vote here for sweet and salty together. Yummy.

I ate far too many crisps yesterday. I've got back in the terrible habit of having them more than once a week which is what I was doing before. Grrrr.

Menu

Onion bagel with marmite

Salad wrap and soup

Leftover Bolognese in a wrap

Fruit

Happy Wednesday!

I’m going to get my food diary out the way first because if I type it quickly with one eye shut it might not seem so bad.

Monday
B – twix bar
L – chicken curry – the smallest portion known to man
D – salmon with asparagus and carrots
S – TWO bags of low fat crisps, 2 almond and cherry biscuits, cheese and effing biscuits!

E – No exercise
A – Way too much wine.

Big fat fail for Monday

Tuesday:
B – none
L – egg and cheese salad
D – pizza and oven chips
S – mini cheddars, wispa
E – no exercise
A – 2 glasses of wine

AAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Why am I so rubbish? Sad

Today:
B – none
L – soup and a roll or a mugshot
D – I think we’re having chicken with veg of some sorts
S – I’m not gonna lie, I don’t have any snacks with me and I’m already hungry so I’m guessing it’ll be crisps and a chocolate bar
E – No idea if I’ll have enough energy by home time – I’m shattered today
A – Nope, not going to have any

I do have a reason to lose a few lbs though (as if being unhappy wasn’t a good enough reason!)…I’m off to St Tropez next month! 10 days of loveliness in France. Night ferry over, drive 10 hours (weep), few days in St Tropez and then a few days travelling back and probably visiting a vineyard or two on the way! Really looking forward to it. Grin

Although Jamaica might now not happen as I’ve just discovered a member of staff has booked a holiday for the exact time we wanted to go Angry

Therealamandaclarke · 18/09/2013 10:55

Tidy little menu twinkle. It's so easy to fall of the wagon (eg crisp excesses). I was thinking about this yestarday because I've realised that almost all my over eating is comfort eating due to boredom/ stress/ tiredness etc. (obvious i know) I'm not sure how to tackle it tbh. Other than not be tired or stressed Grin.

hazel You know that wine is our enemy. My DH is the same (as would I be probably if I didn't have to abstain ATM) it's become the norm to drink every day. That's an extra 400 odd empty calories a day (assuming around half a bottle consumed) plus the snacks that go with it. My chocolate snack last night was the same principle. I need to do something else to alleviate stress. Hmmmm. There's a puzzler.
Go to Jamaica before or at Christmas. Perfect timing for so many reasons.

Hazelbrowneyes · 18/09/2013 11:19

I've just inhaled a grab bag of S&V crisps. Such an idiot. I overeat at work because I'm bored. I sit at a desk all day. I have plenty to do but eating (and being on here, obvs) takes over. GAH.

Amanda You've just set a lightbulb off - I need to start thinking of wine as calories don't I?! Rather than worrying about units, I need to worry about the calories. I know it's not the best way to look at it but it's a start.

I'd love to go to Jamaica in December but the place we want to go to is booked up over Christmas and if we go before Christmas it means we'll be out of the office for 20 days of December and I'm not sure DH will agree to that. We could go late January but that doesn't appeal for lots of reasons.

I feel like we need to do a big holiday but I guess it's not the end of the world if we don't manage it.

My poncho has just arrived! It's lovely Grin Now I need it to not rain at all tomorrow so I can wear it to the boat show. It's Ladies Day tomorrow and I'd normally dress up but I can't be bothered this year so I was thinking - black jumper, grey skinnies, black wedge trainers & black poncho. Big sunglasses (or my actual glasses if I'd like to, y'know, see some stuff). If it's raining that all goes out the window. I can't wear my trainers as they'll be ruined and I'll get wet without a waterproof coat so the poncho will have to be replaced as well Sad

Therealamandaclarke · 18/09/2013 12:28

Change your hotel?

Therealamandaclarke · 18/09/2013 12:30

Which resort were you planning on?

Hazelbrowneyes · 18/09/2013 12:40

Sandals Montego Bay.

Rules · 18/09/2013 12:43

O wow....what a lovely place to go.Shock Grin

Therealamandaclarke · 18/09/2013 13:27

Ok. hazel in your position I would just change hotel or resort. Most of Jamaica is great. If you make some adjustments you can still have your big holiday at the right sort of time. Even if not your original exact dates.

Hazelbrowneyes · 18/09/2013 13:47

We're REALLY fussy though Amanda we went to St Lucia and hated it. DH has been to Montego Bay before so knows he'll enjoy it. I'll have a look tonight to see if we can find anything else.

The other problem with Christmas is the price shoots up. I'll speak to DH and try to work out some dates, the problem is until the member of staff confirms exactly which week in January he's off, we can't book a holiday for us. It's v. annoying.

God I'm having such a shit day. Just discovered somethings hit the back of my car as well. I know exactly what's done it as well. A bus. Marvellous.

Therealamandaclarke · 18/09/2013 13:59

Sorry you're having a bad day (((Hazel)))

Look at negril or Ocho rios. Ocho rios is a bit quieter.
Jamaica really buzzes on the whole. But you can be quite confined to your hotel as it's not always advisable to head off out alone.
Having said that, we stayed in negril a few years ago. Loved it. I went out without DH by cab. But didn't wander about IYSWIM. Actually I just went to church Grin

twinklestar2 · 18/09/2013 14:13

I ate 4 biscuits which cost me nearly 200 cals. They are lovely though!

Hazel - give up drinking in the week and see if it helps? It's unnecessary calories and I bet you crave sugar and salty food the next day cause you're hungover, even if its mildly.

Take fruit and yoghurt to work with you to avoid trips to snack van. We have 2 sandwich people come to us daily, I just avoid going into the staff room when they are there.

Once you start doing this it will become routine.

I hope this helps. No one else can change this but you.

I'm not sure if I mentioned this before but I've made a pact with myself that I'm not going to diet in the new year. Whatever weight I am on jan 1st is the weight I'm going to maintain with healthy eating in the week, the odd weekend blowout and exercise. I've spent over 10 years on a diet. No more.

Hazelbrowneyes · 18/09/2013 14:18

Sounds fun! DH has been to Jamaica a few times and I'm not fussed if I'm confined to a resort, I just want to sit on a beach really Grin

I am so peed off now. My lovely car Sad My friends car was hit by a bus a few months ago (major issue in our village sadly)

I also feel sick as after my tin of Heinz Ravioli (fancied going back in time a bit!) I had a bar of terrys chocolate orange.

Diet FAIL.

Hazelbrowneyes · 18/09/2013 14:18

And thank you for the hugs Amanda x

Therealamandaclarke · 18/09/2013 19:26

Today
B: 1 slice toast with flora buttery and black currant jam. Coffee.
L: 1 slice toast, small salad of tuna, rocket and tomatoes.
D: spaghetti with tomato sauce, v small portion of garlic bread. Salad without dressing. Erm........piece of warm choc brownie with cream.

Although this is not exactly a "diety" menu Blush I am quite pleased that I did not snack or binge. There was a piece of brownie left over and I wanted to eat the blighter, but I thought "no, greedy" so it sits in the fridge for someone to eat tomorrow. That's pretty good self control for me. If I can get one fast day in a week a d eat mindfully the rest of the time I think those last 7lb will drop off my arse. At least I should maintain ATM and I'm practicing not bingeing or snacking.

I did go to the gym. Got changed, got DD ready and took her up to the crèche, only to find that they were due to close in 15 mins Grin so I left her there for 15 mins nd had a shower Grin
Ah well, try again next week.
I plan to go to yoga tomorrow night. No need for crèche Wink

twinklestar2 · 18/09/2013 22:07

Well done Amanda!

Rules · 18/09/2013 22:29

Hi Ladies
Twinkle I stopped dieting at the beginning of this year and joined the Paul McKenna thread. None of us diet because we no that they do not work long term. So we eat normally whatever we want. I have not gained weight at all and have actually lost a bit as have the other ladies.

B......Tracker peanut bar and cup of tea
l.......poached egg, bacon, toms and mushrooms with a slice of bread and salty butter
2 mini Cadbury caramel bars (tiny ones) and cup of tea
D.....Homemade chicken and veg in white wine and cream pie with a serving of peas (small piece which I couldn't finish and left a lot of the peas) was full.
Half a homemade chocolate croissant and cup of tea.
