Congratulations on the dress!

Right. Dinner party hat on.

That is an exquisite and gorgeous menu. I am a serious foodie, and love giving and going to dinner parties, and I would LOVE that menu.

It is a stressful time though for you- can alot of it be done in advance, like tonight and tomorrow? The pie is a lovely idea, partic with those gorgeous wines and vegetables. If you are worried about refined, can you do individual pies in nice ramekins?

I think dump the canapes if you are planning to do them yourself. It is week night, and you will be pressed for time. I would be happy with a little plate of fancy chorizos, olives, quail's eggs and celery salt, something easy. But with that amount of food, and the richness, you don't want people filling up on canapes. The salad sounds gorgeous. How do you do the candied walnuts?

Can I come?

:)

Oh... and deffo on the prosecco and hibiscus flowers.... what a touch of gorgeousness!

SixPackWellies · 10/09/2013 11:56

Or if you are determined on the canapes, you could offer just one lovely homemade variety just to soak up the prosecco.

Can’t do much tonight as we’ve got to deliver something to a client, then we’re popping into see one of my DSILs before driving home – it’s 1.5hrs away so we’re keen to avoid rush hour so will probably find somewhere to have dinner before coming home. I plan on doing a load of washing tonight though so it can dry on the airer before Friday!!

Tomorrow night we’ll go food shopping & clear away clutter.

Thursday night we’ll clean the house, make/prep as much food as poss and I’ll lay the table.

Friday we’re picking them up at 7 so they can’t turn up early lol! So it’ll be a case of get home, clean chooks, washing away, another quick clean of the house and then start cooking before one of us goes to pick them up.

I’ve made a list of things I need to do and buy and on the car journey today, I’ll make another list with DHs input.

I’ve been thinking more about canapés and I think I might do them but stick to easy stuff – I’ve seen a lovely recipe for savoury shortbread and I might make some cheese straws and serve those with salted almonds, olives and some nuts.

I’ve never actually candied walnuts before so that’ll be fun to try! Grin

Yes! Come! It'll be good fun. I just need to be sensible on the booze as I've got work at 9am and a wedding to go that evening!

twinklestar2 · 10/09/2013 14:06

Wow can I c

twinklestar2 · 10/09/2013 14:07

Wow can I come?!!

Therealamandaclarke · 10/09/2013 20:02

Yes Hazel I may go again. I'm due to go to Pilates tomorrow. Hopefully DH will be able to settle DD as it starts at 8pm.
Your dinner menu looks really great. Pies are quite the thing. Good choice IMHO.
I think I would shoot myself if I had to make supper for guests this week Grin

Today
BF: as above
L: ah, now, not my fault. DH suggested lunch. So we went to pizza express with DD. I had some garlic bread Blush and a salad nicoise. I also had a glass of wine Shock it was fab. I was desperate for a pud but DZh winged about having to get back to work. Oh dear. I walked home (grocery shopping to do on the way) with DD in pram. Did you know that Coughlan's do a delicious "rum truffle"? Well, they're very nice. Trouble is I then ate a bounty Blush
D: risotto. Did not have a mini magnum.
So, some over indulgence, a good 2 or so mile walk and a miracle involving ice cream avoidance.
Tomorrow I plan to skip bf and have that soup for lunch while dd has her lunch (good God, the MESS!) not sure about dinner.

O&DFRs.

Therealamandaclarke · 10/09/2013 20:02

DZH? Who the hell is he?

Hazelbrowneyes · 11/09/2013 09:53

twinkle yes, come! We can have an MN meet. I’m sure DH won’t mind Grin

Amanda pizza express is my guilty pleasure. I love it. Envy Well done on avoiding the mini magnum!

Yesterday:
B – none
L – stilton and celery soup with 1 roll
D – fish and chips with mushy peas at my local pub. I went for the cod loin over the massive haddock and I didn’t eat all the chips so I’ll take that as a positive!
S – bag of low fat crisps, 1 hobnob

No exercise and 2 glasses of fizz. I was in bed by 9.30. Shattered.

Today:
B – none
L – mugshot or I’ll buy a soup from the van and have that with a roll
D – fishcake and veg
S – will stick to low fat crisps and cereal bar if I want them but I’m going to try to avoid
E – will definitely exercise tonight along with a food shop and cleaning the house.
No alcohol tonight

Feeling a bit GRRRR today so will immerse myself in work. I threw on whatever clothes I could find this morning – jeans, a red ¾ sleeve jumper with a faux shirt thing and a pair of boots. I feel “meh”. Actually, I’m drastically low on jumpers and A/W clothes in general so I feel a shopping spree is on the cards Grin

Therealamandaclarke · 11/09/2013 11:06

Another one needing a place at your table hazel

I need jeans.
Cheap, straight - leg (or v slight bootleg - bored of skinny jeans) and not needing to be tried on (not able to shop alone).
Any ideas?

Food: DH bought a bag of Wispa bites yesterday as a "treat for you" Angry. They are no longer in the fridge Blush
I've had toast for bf. really going to try to skip lunch and then have spaghetti puttanesca (almost certainly with watercress and garlic bread for dinner (as DS has requested bisketti for tea).

I think healthy eating is sometimes easier in the cooler months soups and stews are satisfying and can be v healthy.
We have a new crockpot so today I've bought some root veg and stewing beef (nice cheap cuts, only £45 spent in tesco Shock this morning) and tomorrow will have beef stew. My master plan is to save half the stew and pop a lid on it for a pie on Sunday.
However, at that price it's going to need to last about three weeks to be economical.

Hazelbrowneyes · 11/09/2013 11:36

Amanda I find New Look ok for cheap jeans. Tesco are fine but they lose shape after a while and you need to try them on as sometimes they’re too long, too tight, etc despite being the same size you bought a month ago.

Buy online, then return any you don’t want. Next jeans are lovely as well actually Smile

I also think eating healthier is easier in cooler months. I get SO bored of salads but I never find soups or stew boring. I’m going to make some more soup tonight actually. I love roasted red pepper or red pepper, lime and chilli but they’re not wintery enough so I’m probably going to go for spicy butternut squash or curried parsnip. Yum.

Aldi is your friend for cheap meat, especially if putting in the slow cooker. We buy a pack of braising/stewing steak, slow cook it and it falls apart. You can’t tell the difference between that and butchers finest IMO. Our pie on Friday will have Aldi beef in it. I heart Aldi.

I have to say, I’m quite excited about Autumn/Winter. I think it’s because we’ve actually had a summer this year and whilst I’ve loved every minute of it (although I’m annoyed we never used the brand new chimnea) I also love A/W. I love a rainy day where the only thing to do is snuggle on the sofa, wrapped in the duvet and watch a film whilst a roast is in the oven. I love walking through woods and kicking the leaves. I love wearing snuggly jumpers and above all I love sitting in a cosy pub with a log fire roaring. I also don’t have to work Saturdays which is always a bonus! Oh and I LOVE Christmas! I'm getting excited already

Remind me of this in January when I’m suffering from SAD and am grumpily wishing it was May.

SixPackWellies · 11/09/2013 12:01

Good morning everyone.

I also heart ALDI. And i love cosy snuggly winters also. :) Mind you, I shall miss this glorious summer.

Out last night and the Chinese was closed so went to an Indian. I had creamy chicken with yoghurt and almonds and shared one bottle of wine between 3. Home by 9.

Today:

B- 2 cups of coffee with soy milk. Leftover toast and marmite from toddler.

S- 1/2 cheeseburger from a burger van outside of B&Q Blush

L- none (see above)

D- Tonight DH and I are going out a deux!!!!! To a seafood restarant. I plant to eat what I enjoy, but to avoid the bread basket and to not go wild. I will have one glass of white with entree and one glass of rose with my main and that is it. I am aiming to eat lusciously, but modestly so that I get up from the table not feeling absolutely stuffed.

Clothes..... I love M&Co jeans. There always seems to be a sale on, and they are comfy and fit. I have had a bit of a splurge on dark grey and marl grey already, jeans and jumpers, which I plan to add bright accessories to. I adore autumn colours also, and am fantasising about picnics in the bright shiny cold.

Can I just inset here a little whisper that I would love a MN meetup between the Fellow Revolutionaries. :)

Thanks for the shopping tips.

I too love Aldi. But we don't have one near us.
Lidl is pretty good. But yesterday they'd cleared their coolers, so no meat :-(

Hey HO.

twinklestar2 · 11/09/2013 19:04

I posted my menu this morning but it didn't stick! Grrrr!

Ran 5k yesterday.

Menu

Latte and fruit
Houmous salad wrap
Dinner is Bolognese in a wrap with cheese and side salad
Half a cookie and a bag of French fries crisps

Therealamandaclarke · 11/09/2013 19:12

Have a great night sixpack

Hi twinkle great menu. Was that a lovely soft giant cookie?
Great run. Well done.

I did have 2 biscuits Blush after dinner, and a mini trifle, and a mini magnum. Got a real sweet craving.
Trying to muster the energy to go to Pilates. Never been. Is it good?

Therealamandaclarke · 11/09/2013 19:13

Oh. And yes to a meet up Grin

Rules · 11/09/2013 20:55

Hi...what diet is your thread about please?Smile

RubyGoat · 11/09/2013 21:03

Hi FRs

Amanda bet the sweet craving is just hormone changes. I never had much of a sweet tooth until I got PG. (hence the bloody horrific weight gain)

We are getting an Aldi soon, they are just building it on the edge of town. Am very excited as 1) cheaper food, and 2) opportunity for a different walk, we don't usually go that way. And, just to balance things, there is also a plan for a fancy farm shop on the opposite side of town. Grin

A meet-up sounds fab. you're all down south ish aren't you though.

I've just scoffed a ridiculous amount of Chinese takeaway. Blush But I'm not going feel too bad about it as it's the first time I've managed a decent meal in a while, must be all the Msg. Did a sneaky WI this morning, am 9st 5lb. Less than a stone to go! (Just keep swimming!)

O&D FRs

RubyGoat · 11/09/2013 21:08

Hi Rules. We are all on different diets. It's mostly about trying to eat less rubbish & not binge/pig out on comfort food, trying to eat a more 'healthy' diet, but we all have our own plans that work best for us, for various reasons. You are welcome to join if you like, we're all friendly and supportive.

Therealamandaclarke · 11/09/2013 21:56

lego that's a great WI. I'm so pleased for you. Good point about th hormones. I am feeling so much better.
I just got back from Pilates (OMG I have NO upper body strength Grin)
It was good. Although not calorie burning of course. but no drowning this time Grin I should WI tomorrow Hmm
Tomorrow's food...??? I was going to slow cook a stew (thrilling) but might have to rethink. Going out with the DCs so I might just make it up as we go along. Might fast on Friday.

Hi Rules (were you ever 3rules?). As legosays. All differs rent diets here with a focus on not bingeing/ comfort eating. sixpackwellies started the thread a few months ago. It's great for support/ tips/ sounding off/ sharing our menus and weighing - in.
Be great to have you with us.

SixPackWellies · 11/09/2013 21:57

Hi Rules welcome! Yes, we are all about just trying to be supportive, to stop negative dieting habits really. And negative self destructive thoughts.

You are very welcome.:)

lego we are also just getting an Aldi built just outside of town.... i dare not hope we are in the same location, but how much I would love a FR nearby. :)

Rules · 11/09/2013 22:49

Thank you Lego.I currently follow the Paul McKenna thread which is about eating mindfully. Eating whatever you want only if your properly hungry and stoping as soon as your satisfied. Not a diet but a way of re learning to eat "normally" after so many years of dieting and disorded eating. Im not sure that me being on here would really help you ladies though but thank you for the invitation. Smile

Rules · 12/09/2013 00:07

Would love to join then as I'm trying to lose a stone.

Therealamandaclarke · 12/09/2013 00:31

Mindful eating is the ideal goal.
Please join.

Hazelbrowneyes · 12/09/2013 08:58

Welcome Rules Grin I think we’re more about just losing weight – I for one am trying to feel more positive about myself and I’m also trying to be healthier (you’ll see I fail at both a lot Wink) but we’re very supportive and quite often go off topic (usually my fault!)

I really need to properly look at Paul McKenna. I’m terrible for bingeing. I’m really trying to change the way I look at food and I’m trying to stop eating when I’m satisfied and not when the button of my jeans needs undoing Blush

Amanda well done on going to Pilates! I’d love to go to Pilates but I have the grace and poise of a baby elephant on stilts so I’ve always been too shy to go.

Lego eeeeeeek! Amazing WI! Grin

wellies and lego if you need Aldi tips, I’m your woman Grin (and how funny if you do live in the same town?!)

So. Dinner party. We have completely changed the menu.

Starter: Open Ravioli

Main: chicken in cider and chorizo

Dessert: Chocolate mousse tart which is in a recipe book at home and I can’t find online. My only issue is my tart tin isn’t very deep so I might have to buy a new one tonight.

The beauty of this menu is that most of it can be done in advance. The tart & the pasta dough can be made tonight so really only the main to sort tomorrow. I’ve decided to cheat and buy petit fours.

Yesterday:
B – none
L – chicken soup with a buttered roll. Soup was vile so I only had half of it. I then had a small cheese and onion roll Blush
D – smoked haddock fishcake with green beans and cauliflower
S – low fat crisps
I failed by not doing exercise and having a few glasses of cava. Doh. House is pretty clean though!

Loads to do tonight but I’m going to try to fit some exercise in.

What is this weather about? A week ago I was in shorts and today I have a jumper, trousers and boots on and I’m still cold Sad
