Week 1 - New Year Low Carb Bootcamp - And We're Off!

Morning, soon-to-be-losers!

Come and confess all on the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

Here is a reminder of the rules of Bootcamp:

1.Eat three, proper meals a day
You must eat breakfast. It doesn?t have to be a lot, but you must have something. For the rest of the day, if you?re eating enough food and you are in ketosis then you shouldn?t be hungry. But if you are hungry, eat something. (Hard boiled eggs make a great snack)

2.Avoid processed food, and focus on pure, natural protein as the basis for your meals ? meat/fish/eggs.
Things like sausages, ham, bacon, pre-prepared burgers etc should be avoided as much as possible. Avoid foods marketed as low carb, e.g. Atkins Daybreak bars.

3.Maximise your fat intake.
Fry in butter, add butter to vegetables, eat salad with a home-made vinaigrette dressing (not made with balsamic vinegar though), add mayonnaise where you can (just check the carb count on your mayo first). Eat fattier cuts of meat ? e.g. pork belly, roast chicken with the skin on and/or eat the fat off your lamb chops. Absolutely no low fat/light foods of any kind!

4.Make sure you are eating vegetables and salads with your food ? this is where your carbs should come from.
But choose only those vegetables that are on the allowed list (see below). You don?t have to weigh/count carbs ? this is one of the great joys of this WOE (way of eating), but if you?re new to low carbing it can be helpful to weigh your portions of veg in the early days, just so that you know how many carbs are in the sort of portions that you like to eat

5.Minimal dairy (apart from butter, which is unlimited).
If you are still drinking tea/coffee with milk or cream, try to restrict yourself to max 2 cups per day. You may eat cheese, but only in small amounts.

6.You must drink a minimum of 2 litres of water per day.
The more weight you have to lose, the more water you should drink

7.No alcohol

8.No fruit

9.No nuts/seeds

10.No sugar or artificial sweeteners

Hi de hi campers!

I think I am day 6? (started Friday) and have been 100% perfect, yay! Will weigh in Friday morning. I was LCing before Christmas though, so not expecting a massive loss.

Breakfast was fried mushrooms, scrambled egg with a drop of cream & chorizo

Lunch is prawns, avocado and homemade coleslaw

Dinner tonight will be roast chicken thighs & cabbage cabonara

Have a large celeriac looking all forlon, so I think about making a slow cooked beef brisket for tomorrow with celeriac fondant!

bulletwithbutterflywings · 09/01/2013 13:10

toomuch ewan littlemiss I'm v. Excited about trying them on! I might take a pic of myself now so when I'm all willowy and slim in my wedding dress in November I feel twice as good!
Feeling spaced out and queas y atm. Not used to all the fat!

bulletwithbutterflywings · 09/01/2013 13:14

Hi ginot! Im scared Im going to lose all the weight and have put it back on by Nov!

NoelHeadbands · 09/01/2013 13:15

Ahhh all the brides to be

slatternly last year I had a 'fuckit!' moment over a piece of carrot, how sad is that??

GinotPrigio · 09/01/2013 13:19

Don't worry bullet. If you buy your dress at your ideal size then there's no better motivation to stay that weight until your wedding!

just that sounds amazing

You know, I've never eaten celeriac? Not even sure how to recognise or prepare it Blush is it just peel and chop?

noel I know, my office buddy was like 'What kind of diet are you doing where you're beating yourself up over a pepper?!' Grin

They're all eating cake in the office now. The sugary twats.

EwanHoozami · 09/01/2013 13:42

I'm starving today, which is really weird for me. I've thrown the day's food plan to the wind and eaten a 3-egg omelette, a whole pack of roast beef, a chunk of cheddar, a wedge of chorizo and a significant amount of yogurt. 2l of water already too Shock

Not even due on!

I figured if my body wanted grub then it should have some but blimey Confused

EwanHoozami · 09/01/2013 13:43

actually snorted at 'sugary twats' Grin

BigStickBIWI · 09/01/2013 13:43

Celeriac is a brute of a vegetable! <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?num=10&hl=en&tbo=d&biw=1366&bih=643&tbm=isch&tbnid=9j43rITsRTABTM:&imgrefurl=www.taste.com.au/how%2Bto/articles/537/celeriac&docid=LePOBUg6RdbvCM&imgurl=cdn.taste.com.au/images/articles/celeriac06261152.jpg&w=364&h=242&ei=1XPtUMeaCsWt0QW4xYDYAg&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=509&vpy=295&dur=59&hovh=183&hovw=275&tx=146&ty=99&sig=116835235867160298063&page=1&tbnh=146&tbnw=226&start=0&ndsp=20&ved=1t:429,r:3,s:0,i:124" rel="nofollow" target="_blank"> see one in all its glory here!

Slice both ends off and peel it. It's easier to peel with a knife than a peeler. Then cut into chunks and boil for around 20-25 minutes till tender, if you want to mash it.

Afternoon all, i am HOT!!

I always get over heated for a couple of days around days 3 and 4.

Anyone else?

Other than that it's all going well - i hope!

Not going to weigh myself until Monday!

GuyMartinsSideburns · 09/01/2013 13:45

Hello all Smile Im going around in a daze at the moment so just checking in to say all's good here, low-carb wise.

I proper laughed out loud then @ 'the sugary twats' Grin

littlemissstan · 09/01/2013 14:01

Grin at the sugary twats! I have started to think that about people myself though, currently watching my colleague make microwave pasta 'n' sauce for her lunch and wondering why she is eating such rubbish :)

Ginot that would be my dress plan too, but mine is being made to my measurements, so they have to be smaller to begin with!

GinotPrigio · 09/01/2013 14:09

littlemisstan Mine is being made to measure too! She's not started making it, we're still messing around with the design but I'm hoping to delay her making it as long as possible so that I'm a bit smaller!!

Doshusallie · 09/01/2013 14:10

whisper it but is this thread starting to slow down? Or is it that, unlike me, all those with full time jobs actually work instead of frig about on MN? Grin

Greek yog for breakfast as per.
2 boiled eggs mid morning.

Just had the most divine lunch - sliced leek and sprouts - fried in butter - chopped bacon and ham that needed eating added - then some cream cheese and cream added - utterly lush and I am STUFFEROONIED!!! God it was good.

Onto second litre of water.

GuyMartinsSideburns · 09/01/2013 14:10

Im going to have to use 'the sugary twats' at some point, Im still sniggering now

anewdispensation · 09/01/2013 14:17

Hi all.. Ashamed to say I cheated and had some red beans last night. I had been in London all day and got home and that was the first thing I laid my hands on. I paid for it this morning as when I weighed, I had lost 0.5kg instead of the standard 1kg I had been steadily losing. Lesson learnt: Never allow yourself to go too hungry on this WOE.

I am back on the wagon now and I had full fat Greek Yoghurt for brekkie, Baked fish in butter and chives for lunch and 1.5 litres of water so far.. Onwards...

thekitchenfairy · 09/01/2013 14:21

pmsl at sugary twats you crack me up slatternly

Not much to report here, still feel sick all the time, sloshing around in water, and a bit grumpy and fed up that nothing has been lost on the scales yet, but apparently it isn't carb flu. According to DH I am always grumpy Hmm

I am sticking with this though as jeans definitely feel looser

TooImmatureMincePies · 09/01/2013 14:24

I have a full time job and have just finished reading every post between last night at about 9pm and now, Doshus. Must work harder...

Grin at 'sugary twats'. Everyone in my office is grazing on boxes of biscuits, Heros, Quality Street etc. Sad I want some so badly I caught myself thinking about coming off the diet just until the sweets are gone and then going back on them. I resisted, though - made a cup of tea instead. I've got some yoghurt to eat if I really can't cope this afternoon. I'm not exactly hungry, I just want to eat something.

carbalanche · 09/01/2013 14:44

Can you add me in please? Didn't know whether I could add myself straight onto the spreadsheet or not and didn't want to risk screwing it up!

Mon 7th Jan - weighed 13st 9 (191 pounds)

Want to be 10st 9 by middle of June (hols)

Want to lose 7Ibs by end of this fortnight.

Have been right round the low-carb block - lost 3 stone, put on 4 stone when I stopped Blush

Biscuit357 · 09/01/2013 15:01

Love 'sugary twats' - I feel very superior eating this way. Silently thinking 'they have no idea' at cake time whilst munching on a hard boiled egg.

I fell off the wagon last night and had two gin and tonics. That blooming gap between nights when you cant sleep. Im tempted to buy some night nurse just to knock myself out instead of reaching for the bottle to help me.

I bought the prawns on offer from M and S yesterday so I will do a stir fry tonight.

How bad are tinned tomatoes if you just use a table spoon full? I have bacon left over from Xmas and I need to eat it.

slatternlymother · 09/01/2013 15:17

Grin always glad to bring merriment!

thekitchenfairy DH says that about me too, although I have stopped my pill recently because I think it was really affecting me hormone - wise, at any rate I feel much better. It was sort of that which made me wonder what else I was putting into my body.

Anyway, I'm finished giving you my life story now. Grin I'll let you know when my book's finished so you can continue avidly reading about my life though Grin

Drank 3L of water today. I've cranked up the heating in the office. The others are rolling up their sleeves and sweating like bastards and wondering what's going on, and here I am, merrily drinking away and remarking how well I feel Grin

Lifeisontheup · 09/01/2013 15:29

I actually feel really hot today and I'm normally wrapped up with fleece and thick throw when I'm just sitting studying and MNing. Wonder if it's my body burning fat? Here's hoping...

Will try soup while I'm on nights and will perhaps take a hard boiled egg or two to snack on. twelve hours is a long time to go on just soup but don't want a huge meal as you never know if you'll have to be very active after meal break and that's not nice on a very full stomach!

At least all the sweets and cake in the crew room left over from Christmas and New year should be gone now.
