Week 1 - New Year Low Carb Bootcamp - And We're Off!

BigStickBIWI · 07/01/2013 07:40

Morning, soon-to-be-losers!

Come and confess all on the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

Here is a reminder of the rules of Bootcamp:

1.Eat three, proper meals a day
You must eat breakfast. It doesn?t have to be a lot, but you must have something. For the rest of the day, if you?re eating enough food and you are in ketosis then you shouldn?t be hungry. But if you are hungry, eat something. (Hard boiled eggs make a great snack)

2.Avoid processed food, and focus on pure, natural protein as the basis for your meals ? meat/fish/eggs.
Things like sausages, ham, bacon, pre-prepared burgers etc should be avoided as much as possible. Avoid foods marketed as low carb, e.g. Atkins Daybreak bars.

3.Maximise your fat intake.
Fry in butter, add butter to vegetables, eat salad with a home-made vinaigrette dressing (not made with balsamic vinegar though), add mayonnaise where you can (just check the carb count on your mayo first). Eat fattier cuts of meat ? e.g. pork belly, roast chicken with the skin on and/or eat the fat off your lamb chops. Absolutely no low fat/light foods of any kind!

4.Make sure you are eating vegetables and salads with your food ? this is where your carbs should come from.
But choose only those vegetables that are on the allowed list (see below). You don?t have to weigh/count carbs ? this is one of the great joys of this WOE (way of eating), but if you?re new to low carbing it can be helpful to weigh your portions of veg in the early days, just so that you know how many carbs are in the sort of portions that you like to eat

5.Minimal dairy (apart from butter, which is unlimited).
If you are still drinking tea/coffee with milk or cream, try to restrict yourself to max 2 cups per day. You may eat cheese, but only in small amounts.

6.You must drink a minimum of 2 litres of water per day.
The more weight you have to lose, the more water you should drink

7.No alcohol

8.No fruit

9.No nuts/seeds

10.No sugar or artificial sweeteners

Roobz Hope you feel better soon. Don't worry about the fluctuations. I've had that over the last week too and it does honestly even itself out.

mawbroon · 08/01/2013 14:31

Thanks mumat39 I've seen that site before. I am feeling so much better already after about 6 days of this WOE, I am wondering if I will actually need to go the whole hog with GAPS.

I had psychosis again in November (doc thinks I have bi polar but no diagnosis for sure yet, wait and see what happens) and I was definitely feeling post psychotic depression trying to take a hold last week, and this WOE seems to have really lifted my mood. Fingers crossed that I can avoid it, cos it sucks.

ElectricalHoHoHoBanana · 08/01/2013 14:33

Oh mawbroon massive sympathy, I had severe PND and it's the worst thing. The WORST thing. Sad

slatternlymother · 08/01/2013 14:40

Pats grandma's hand, not pasts Hmm

Rooobs · 08/01/2013 14:46

aw shucks you guys! you're so kinds to a whingey moaner!

mawbroon that really does suck Sad sending positive vibes

Spamspamspam · 08/01/2013 14:51

Tickle - you DO NOT WANT dark purple on the ketostix, they need to be light pink. There is no grading of ketosis, you are either in or not and dark purple does not show that you are further in ketosis it shows that you are not drinking enough water. Water is essential to flush out the ketones that are being produced so please drink more and make those sticks light pink.

Grandma, you might not have taken yourself out of ketosis so don't worry and even if you have if you continue low carbing you will be back in within an hour or so, it won't take you right back to the beginning where it will take you 3-4 days again. Just dust yourself off and carry on!!

Arf at slatternly's view on ds' development GrinGrin

TooImmatureMincePies · 08/01/2013 15:15

9 or 10 lbs in one week? Blimey! Plus the DH who lost 15lbs! Shock Wow. Arf at the poster (sorry, am terrible at names - was it you, Roobs?) who is cross that she only lost 3lbs yesterday. I think, my lovely, in the nicest possible way, you might want to scale back your expectations. After week 1, 2lbs a week is good. You'll just get discouraged if you're hoping for such enormous losses day in and day out.

B: Greek yoghurt
L: Low-carb lasagne
D: was supposed to be broccoli and stilton soup but I haven't made it yet, so might fall back on bacon, leeks, courgette, mushrooms and cream all fried up together.

Rooobs · 08/01/2013 15:18

MrsNJ
I have just noticed your post

What have you been eating? Lets see if we can spot something which may help.

Have you taken paracetamol?

TantrumsandBananas · 08/01/2013 15:36

Hi

Added my name onto spreadsheet. Last year I lost two stone doing this WOE. KEpt it off for ages, got complacent, piled it all back on, then some.

WHY can't I accept that this is how I am supposed to eat? I know all the science behind it, it all makes sense in my head, then I conveniently forget it all!

I have a huge amount to loose, got on the scales yesterday. No longer in denial. Been lurking on this thread getting some great meal ideas.

thonah · 08/01/2013 15:38

Added my details to the v. impressive spreadsheet and Been really good so far today. I've found the question thread as well. Thanks Biwi.

JustasmallGless · 08/01/2013 15:38

Happy Birthday to all those with birthdays today (and the DH with a birthday)

mawbroon - I have posted before about my depression and I truly credit this WOE with getting me off the anti D's. Lets hope it works for you too

Lighthousekeeping · 08/01/2013 15:44

I need help!! I've just been for a facial and all I could think of was the Brie and bacon that's in my fridge. It's that bloody sandwich thread!! I'm gasping for a French stick. What's the alternative?

JustasmallGless · 08/01/2013 15:47

Have the Brie and Bacon!
Either together on a plate or wrapped in lettuce leaves so its a Brie and Bacon wrap Wink

Doshusallie · 08/01/2013 15:49

erm....don't think lettuce leaves as the "bread" in a sandwich is going to work for a french stick substitute.... how about the fact that when I ate one coming home from a French skiing holiday in March it tasted like sawdust and gave me chronic stomach cramps?

Doshusallie · 08/01/2013 15:50

cross posted Glessy!! Grin

Lighthousekeeping · 08/01/2013 15:52

I wonder if it will work in an omelette

PlatoonBuffoon · 08/01/2013 15:53

Afternoon all. Nearly end of first week now and I am actually quite excited to weigh myself tomorrow. Feeling positive.

Comforting to read about others having issues with number twos. I had an emergency poo in B&Q yesterday. Bit embarrassing but it brought a little bit of danger to my day at least. Anyway, I successfully managed a run today without emergency, so things are looking like they are settling down.

lighthousekeeping if my revelation has not dispelled your craving for something long, warm and crunchy, you could try iceberg lettuce wrapped round Brie and bacon? Maybe...?

PlatoonBuffoon · 08/01/2013 15:54

Lettuce leaf multiple cross post!

PrincessSparkle86 · 08/01/2013 15:55
