Week 1 - New Year Low Carb Bootcamp - And We're Off!

BigStickBIWI · 07/01/2013 07:40

Morning, soon-to-be-losers!

Come and confess all on the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

Here is a reminder of the rules of Bootcamp:

1.Eat three, proper meals a day
You must eat breakfast. It doesn?t have to be a lot, but you must have something. For the rest of the day, if you?re eating enough food and you are in ketosis then you shouldn?t be hungry. But if you are hungry, eat something. (Hard boiled eggs make a great snack)

2.Avoid processed food, and focus on pure, natural protein as the basis for your meals ? meat/fish/eggs.
Things like sausages, ham, bacon, pre-prepared burgers etc should be avoided as much as possible. Avoid foods marketed as low carb, e.g. Atkins Daybreak bars.

3.Maximise your fat intake.
Fry in butter, add butter to vegetables, eat salad with a home-made vinaigrette dressing (not made with balsamic vinegar though), add mayonnaise where you can (just check the carb count on your mayo first). Eat fattier cuts of meat ? e.g. pork belly, roast chicken with the skin on and/or eat the fat off your lamb chops. Absolutely no low fat/light foods of any kind!

4.Make sure you are eating vegetables and salads with your food ? this is where your carbs should come from.
But choose only those vegetables that are on the allowed list (see below). You don?t have to weigh/count carbs ? this is one of the great joys of this WOE (way of eating), but if you?re new to low carbing it can be helpful to weigh your portions of veg in the early days, just so that you know how many carbs are in the sort of portions that you like to eat

5.Minimal dairy (apart from butter, which is unlimited).
If you are still drinking tea/coffee with milk or cream, try to restrict yourself to max 2 cups per day. You may eat cheese, but only in small amounts.

6.You must drink a minimum of 2 litres of water per day.
The more weight you have to lose, the more water you should drink

7.No alcohol

8.No fruit

9.No nuts/seeds

10.No sugar or artificial sweeteners

welcome thonah, i have added you to the spreadsheet

hurrah slummymummy, that's amazing!

THC i think i just copied you over from the list onto the spreadsheet automatically, but have now deleted you. you know you're always welcome - we need your experience!

NoelHeadbands · 08/01/2013 07:49

Woohoo slummy!

Welcome thonah and good morning everyone else.

One of the lovely things about this WOE for me is that my energy levels are stable throughout the day, but come 9-10pm I'm whacked- so slept like a log last night then bounced out of bed at 5am this morn Smile. And the weather was so mild, it was like Spring

cocolepew · 08/01/2013 08:00

Thanks to whoever added me to the spreadsheet , sorry if I missed your name, I'm madly skim reading before work.

Good luck today everyone Smile

slatternlymother · 08/01/2013 08:04

Well done cathy and slummy and welcome thonah and humancatapult Smile

noel yes, only woke up once last night (had to go for an old lady wee!) but instead of tossing and turning like usual, was straight back to sleep.

I feel well rested this morning and ready to go again; headache from last night is gone for now, thank goodness. It was horrid.

Considering I'm on the first day of my period, my mood is astonishingly good. I'm a little bit irritable I guess, but nothing like usual. The feelings just don't run as deep, iyswim. Does that make any sense? Grin

WillieWaggledagger · 08/01/2013 08:05

yy slatternly my periods often take me by surprise these days as i don't get the strong premenstrual signals i used to get!

GinotPrigio · 08/01/2013 08:06

So it's day 8 for my and my official week's weight loss is.... 6lbs

I was hoping to squeeze out that extra pound and make it a full half stone, but I'm still chuffed to bits with 6lbs.

Previous bootcampers ~ After the initial big weight loss how much do people lose on average every week? Should I aim for the usual 1 or 2 lbs?

This thread has been invaluable so far. I come on here and read everyone's post when I am having a bit of a wobble. Thank you all!

x

EwanHoozami · 08/01/2013 08:07

Morning chaps

B: Lidl full-fat yoghurt
L: tuna salad
D... um... I've got company tonight so might do celeriac bravas. DH gave me some really good chorizo for Christmas (not a euphemism) so might throw that in too.

Shock GinotPrigio That is bloody amazing!

froufroulala · 08/01/2013 08:19

Awful night sleep here, my stomach was in bits. Anyhow day 7 & no weight loss for 2 days. Also yesterday was in a foul mood, someone really upset me & I really, really wanted all the wrong things. DH had to wrestle the biscuit tin off me! Still have that craving today Sad

BlackAffronted · 08/01/2013 08:19

Fantastic Gino!

BlackAffronted · 08/01/2013 08:20

oh forgot to say, yes it will slow down to 1/2lb a week now, but many seem to stall in week 3/4 - so dont give up if that happens! You will probably get a whoosh afterwards.

captainmummy · 08/01/2013 08:22

Well done Ginot - great loss!
Ewan - ShockGrin at chorizo!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY COLDETHYL and FROUFROU! (and me!)Grin

froufroulala · 08/01/2013 08:22

Well done Gino!

froufroulala · 08/01/2013 08:23

Happy birthday to you too captainmummy Grin

WillieWaggledagger · 08/01/2013 08:26

ginot the weight loss does slow down, and as you say 1-2lb a week is good and the sort of sustainable loss you would hope for, though it does depend on how much you have to lose.

if you can i would avoid aiming for a particular loss per week as it is unlikely to be linear and you might set yourself up for disappointment - as long as the overall trajectory is downwards then you're doing well.

as i've got closer to 'goal' weight (though i'm increasingly unsure what that is, i think my body is finding it's own goal weight!) the weekly loss has been much less steady, maybe 0.5lb or even no loss at all, but then occasionally i get a whoosh of 2-3lb for no reason! might be hormone related but i would need to pay closer attention to identify that

Lighthousekeeping · 08/01/2013 08:26

I've finished work and have had to take a couple of Rennies. I've also been getting crampy pains in my left arm. I drank two litres of fizzy water during the night. Could that have anything to do with it?

Fadqueen · 08/01/2013 08:29

Just had a really long read catching up from yesterday - just love the upbeat vibe and motivated to try new things. We are definitely having braised cabbage tonight!

Brilliant result for you Gino Smile
And a very happy birthday to captain coldethyl and froufrou

And Evan you always make me laugh so much!

slatternlymother · 08/01/2013 08:29

lighthouse do you mean you had heartburn and pains in your left arm?

GinotPrigio · 08/01/2013 08:30

Thanks BlackAffronted and WiillieWaggle I'll try to not get too obsessed with weekly weight loss from now on. But it's good for me to have short term goals as they help keep me in check!

Lighthousekeeping · 08/01/2013 08:33

Yes I do mean that. It's gone now though. It did worry me abit. Iwas underneath my left arm. The Rennies have helped.

TheHumancatapult · 08/01/2013 08:44

Giniot now I'm only 2 stone of I'm down to average of 2lb a week and expect it to slow again but long as its going down that's all I'm fussed about

NoelHeadbands · 08/01/2013 08:47

Happy birthday captain coldethyl and froufrou

No birthday cake for you though sadly, celebrate with celery!

DangerousMouse · 08/01/2013 08:56

This diet is fantastic, I feel so good on it, all the bad symptoms have gone and I just have a slight bad taste in my mouth.

Today is day 2 for me, I can't believe it but I have lost 4lb, I started Sunday afternoon, so I guess it's day 2 and a half, but that is amazing!

slatternlymother · 08/01/2013 09:07

Well done dangerous mouse! Day 2 for me too. I feel like I ate onions a while ago but didn't brush my teeth or something. It's an odd taste. My breath must absolutely reek!
