Week 1 - New Year Low Carb Bootcamp - And We're Off!

BigStickBIWI · 07/01/2013 07:40

Morning, soon-to-be-losers!

Come and confess all on the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

Here is a reminder of the rules of Bootcamp:

1.Eat three, proper meals a day
You must eat breakfast. It doesn?t have to be a lot, but you must have something. For the rest of the day, if you?re eating enough food and you are in ketosis then you shouldn?t be hungry. But if you are hungry, eat something. (Hard boiled eggs make a great snack)

2.Avoid processed food, and focus on pure, natural protein as the basis for your meals ? meat/fish/eggs.
Things like sausages, ham, bacon, pre-prepared burgers etc should be avoided as much as possible. Avoid foods marketed as low carb, e.g. Atkins Daybreak bars.

3.Maximise your fat intake.
Fry in butter, add butter to vegetables, eat salad with a home-made vinaigrette dressing (not made with balsamic vinegar though), add mayonnaise where you can (just check the carb count on your mayo first). Eat fattier cuts of meat ? e.g. pork belly, roast chicken with the skin on and/or eat the fat off your lamb chops. Absolutely no low fat/light foods of any kind!

4.Make sure you are eating vegetables and salads with your food ? this is where your carbs should come from.
But choose only those vegetables that are on the allowed list (see below). You don?t have to weigh/count carbs ? this is one of the great joys of this WOE (way of eating), but if you?re new to low carbing it can be helpful to weigh your portions of veg in the early days, just so that you know how many carbs are in the sort of portions that you like to eat

5.Minimal dairy (apart from butter, which is unlimited).
If you are still drinking tea/coffee with milk or cream, try to restrict yourself to max 2 cups per day. You may eat cheese, but only in small amounts.

6.You must drink a minimum of 2 litres of water per day.
The more weight you have to lose, the more water you should drink

7.No alcohol

8.No fruit

9.No nuts/seeds

10.No sugar or artificial sweeteners

Oooohhhh. I don't feel well. My tummy is making gurgling noises and I have, ahem, rather loose stools.

Bad prawn or part of carb flu??

Last year I did Durkan and given the initial stages were just protein and no veg and all low fat, it bunged me up so to speak. Obviously had the furry mouth and headache etc but this tummy thing is new.

Whendoigetadayoff · 07/01/2013 23:23

Bollocks. Done ok today. Eaten eggs chicken salad, only had couple tomatoes. Even did my first shred tonight.
low carb. exercise.
Felt virtuous until saw link to Pepsi max. I had can which as congratulations to myself this evening.
Smugness gone. No more for me! Pepsi or smugness!

Whendoigetadayoff · 07/01/2013 23:26

And so sorry - meant to say BIWI and Willie what am amazing job you've done. The spreadsheet will be great motivator.
You're all quite marvellous really!

caramelwaffle · 07/01/2013 23:47

skandi1 If you have pain/sickness with it, it may be some bad food. If it is just the gurgling, your body may simply be re-adjusting itself to your new diet.

skandi1 · 07/01/2013 23:53

Caramelwaffle. Thanks. No sickness or pain or nausea. Just gurgling and loose bowels. Perhaps all that fatty avocado did it?

Will swig some extra water and settle down for the night and fingers crossed it will be better in the morning.

Lighthousekeeping · 08/01/2013 00:29

I'm opposite to you lot as I'm on nights. I've already drank a litre of water. I had spicy chicken breast and a green salad for dinner. M and S is a lifesaver when I'm low carbing and having to work.

When do we all weigh ourselves is it after a week? I feel less bloated already. I cannot sacrafice my tea and coffee though. It's the only thing that wakes me up to get ready for work.

I'm totally dreading my first night off. I have a bottle of gin from Xmas that is going to be hard to ignore.

caramelwaffle · 08/01/2013 00:41

Lighthouse First weigh in - 7th Jan. Next is 14th and every monday after (spreadsheet is linked on first post)

frenchfries22 · 08/01/2013 01:23

Also becoming slightly obsessed with this thred - if i still have my job after bootcamp it may be a miracle!! Feeling a little bloated this morning after omlette for dinner last night perhaps not enough water? I have just put six bottles on my desk my goodness it looks a scary amount!! Well done to everyone who has lost and love the determination in this thread!

MissNJE · 08/01/2013 01:34

Survived Day One but passed out at 7pm in my bed. I was so tired. No it's 1:30am and I can't go back to sleep. Sad

Lighthousekeeping · 08/01/2013 04:32

I need to pop to tescos on the way home. I really fancy some steak tonight as a treat. Can you think of what I can have it with? My minds all fuddled.

Also is abit of back a no no?

Lighthousekeeping · 08/01/2013 04:33

Bacon!! I'm getting confused between my low carb diets.

JustasmallGless · 08/01/2013 06:14

Bacon is ok just not every day as its processed

How about frying mushrooms and leeks in Butter and garlic and adding swoosh of cream?

RatherBeOnThePiste · 08/01/2013 06:23

I have mushrooms and leeks, I'm going to do that in a bit Smile

Morning all Brew

JustasmallGless · 08/01/2013 06:38

Morning pistey how are you this morning? Day 2 for you?

RatherBeOnThePiste · 08/01/2013 06:42

Morning lovely, no I am on about Day 5 I think, got the gin out of my system over the weekend Grin

Didn't weigh myself until Monday though. Haven't craved carbs like I have done before, but did have a shocker of a headache, which happily has now gone. I'm so bloody determined to keep up with the thread though, think that was where I went wrong last time, couldn't keep up and sort of fell off. But feeling good. Feeling good it is except I have to now go and chivvy my teens!

MrsHelsBels74 · 08/01/2013 06:54

So today is my first fast day, is it normal to be unable to think of anything but food? Grin

MrsHelsBels74 · 08/01/2013 06:56

Oops wrong thread Blush

halfthesize · 08/01/2013 06:57

Morning all, hope everyone has a good day.

thekitchenfairy · 08/01/2013 06:59

Morning all!!

Shocking night's sleep, was so tired but i hardy feel like I have slept at all, barely dozed... DCs back to school today. Yippee!!!!

I usually wake up starving but i dont honestly think i want a thing. On a positive note, the weird fishy taste seems to have gone Grin time for Brew before the breakfast-time madness begins...

BlackAffronted · 08/01/2013 07:02

Think its day 5 for me too, not sure Im all confused! I started on Friday anyway. No slip ups yet, going strong & loving it!

Im not a daily weigher as even o LC I lose slowly, will weigh Friday morning though.

cathyandclaire · 08/01/2013 07:14

Mornin' bootcampers! < said Ruth Madoc style>

0.2lb down here :) it's the little things that count, feel groggy, so going to glug down a coffee with lacto free milk, some water and a couple of black farmer sausages, that should sort me out!
Have a great day all!

kandinskysgirl · 08/01/2013 07:16

Thanks for adding me to the spreadsheet...hopefully it will keep me motivated!

thonah · 08/01/2013 07:21

Can I join you? Really need to loose a stone in advance of a significant birthday in April. I read John Briffa over the summer and lost half a stone, but put most of that back on in the last month or so! He is less strict on nuts, which I tend to eat as a snack at work, so I'll nee to think of other things. Any ideas?

Iamaslummymummy · 08/01/2013 07:30

Just measured my around tummy button measurement. It was 38" on nyd. 32" today! Grin Grin Grin

TheHumancatapult · 08/01/2013 07:41
