Week 1 - New Year Low Carb Bootcamp - And We're Off!

Morning, soon-to-be-losers!

Come and confess all on the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

Here is a reminder of the rules of Bootcamp:

1.Eat three, proper meals a day
You must eat breakfast. It doesn?t have to be a lot, but you must have something. For the rest of the day, if you?re eating enough food and you are in ketosis then you shouldn?t be hungry. But if you are hungry, eat something. (Hard boiled eggs make a great snack)

2.Avoid processed food, and focus on pure, natural protein as the basis for your meals ? meat/fish/eggs.
Things like sausages, ham, bacon, pre-prepared burgers etc should be avoided as much as possible. Avoid foods marketed as low carb, e.g. Atkins Daybreak bars.

3.Maximise your fat intake.
Fry in butter, add butter to vegetables, eat salad with a home-made vinaigrette dressing (not made with balsamic vinegar though), add mayonnaise where you can (just check the carb count on your mayo first). Eat fattier cuts of meat ? e.g. pork belly, roast chicken with the skin on and/or eat the fat off your lamb chops. Absolutely no low fat/light foods of any kind!

4.Make sure you are eating vegetables and salads with your food ? this is where your carbs should come from.
But choose only those vegetables that are on the allowed list (see below). You don?t have to weigh/count carbs ? this is one of the great joys of this WOE (way of eating), but if you?re new to low carbing it can be helpful to weigh your portions of veg in the early days, just so that you know how many carbs are in the sort of portions that you like to eat

5.Minimal dairy (apart from butter, which is unlimited).
If you are still drinking tea/coffee with milk or cream, try to restrict yourself to max 2 cups per day. You may eat cheese, but only in small amounts.

6.You must drink a minimum of 2 litres of water per day.
The more weight you have to lose, the more water you should drink

7.No alcohol

8.No fruit

9.No nuts/seeds

10.No sugar or artificial sweeteners

Evening,

It's good to be back!

MrsHerculePoirot · 07/01/2013 18:44

Hello! Had a bit of a nightmare start this morning as we had a change of childminder and routine going on and so I managed not to have breakfast. I also got caught up in work and a colleague picked up a sandwich for me - chicken ceaser salad, but it had pasta underneath so I didn't have very much. I did drink 1.5 litres of water at work though.

Got home starving and had two chicken thighs, some mini-pepperami and some pork scratchings! Tea will be lamb steaks and green beans and broccoli and then off to bed as I am exhausted after a full day back teaching!!!

I did OK over christmas, only putting on a couple of lbs and then in the last week I have put on about half a stone Blush however, I know it will come off quickly so am quite motivated about that! I am also going to measure this time around as I like to see the little graphs going down!

slatternlymother · 07/01/2013 18:49

I've weighed myself. I am 13st 1lb. Jesus Sad

At least I'm in the right place.

skandi1 · 07/01/2013 18:50

Soooo. Bit worried I have gone wrong somewhere:

B: egg white omelette and coffee with tiny splash of cream.

Snack: two match box sized cubes of cheese.

L: egg white omelette with 1 leek cooked in some butter.

And this is where I think I have gone wrong:

D: two whole avocados with brown shrimp and small dollop of mayo. Btw I found a mayo which only has 0.3g of carb per 100g. It's called West Sussex Company something or other. I will link later.

Well I didn't weigh the two avocados but I have googled and each one would weigh 200g. Which means I have chomped 400g of avocado which is 7.96g of carb in one hit!! Shock
I have fecked it up haven't I?
It felt like a carb hit eating the avocado.
That said its day 1 for me and the carb hangover is here and my teeth are furry and mouth tastes funny this evening

slatternlymother · 07/01/2013 18:52

Could someone add my voluptuous shame to the spreadsheet? I can't work it out Sad

littlemissstan · 07/01/2013 18:52

I think avocados are ok? I really hope so as I've just eaten one as my roast chicken is taking way too long to cook!

skandi1 · 07/01/2013 18:54

Littlemiss. It's the fact that I ate two whole avocados in one go. One would have been fine but I love avo and am clearly a greedy mare.

BigStickBIWI · 07/01/2013 18:54

skand1 - you have gone wrong.

But not with the avocado, so much.

Why are you eating egg white omelettes? What's wrong with the yolks?!

If you feel like you have a carb hangover, then things are probably OK. Are you drinking plenty of water? Keep your fat levels up as well.

What is everyone doing about their horrible breath? I can feeling it seeping out of me :-( I daren't talk to anyone for fear of killing them. I obviously don't want to having lots of mints/chewing gum, any natural methods?

MrsHerculePoirot · 07/01/2013 18:55

skandi1 - why did you not eat the egg yolks? It looks to me like you might need more protein in your diet, and that you probably haven't eaten enough? I don't think the avocados are a problem, 8g of carbs really isn't very much if that is all you have had all day? You might need to eat a few more from green leafy veg? Eat more!!!!!

MrsHerculePoirot · 07/01/2013 18:56

slatternly I'll do it for you - how much do you want me to put down as your start weight?

LucyVFood · 07/01/2013 18:57

TooMuchWaterNotWine, your curry sounds lovely. Could you post the recipe?

I'm 13st 1lb mrshercule

Jacaqueen · 07/01/2013 18:58

Don't panic the avocado has so much good fat in it. Maybe just have one at a time from now on though.

Why are you not eating the egg yolks?

BlackAffronted · 07/01/2013 18:58

Just made an really tasty chicken thing for tea, I mixed mayo with parmesan & garlic powder, coated the chicken breast with the mixture & baked in the oven - delicious! Ive added it to the recipe thread, I apologise if its already there.

BlackAffronted · 07/01/2013 18:58

I had the braised cabbage tonight too!

bulletwithbutterflywings · 07/01/2013 19:03

Hi! I'm new.... DP and I are going to start tomorrow. Can I just ask, Is coconut milk ok? The can I bought is 1.1g carbs per 100g. :)

slatternlymother · 07/01/2013 19:03

Thank you btw mrshercule Thanks

slatternlymother · 07/01/2013 19:04

bullet I think it's fine, you're looking for less than 5g per 100g I think, but a guru will be along shortly I'm sure.

Yddraigoldragon · 07/01/2013 19:06

Day 1 for me
B Scrambled egg with green pepper and pancetta
L Roast cold belly pork strips with salad and mayo
D Pork, broccoli stems and cheesy leek (leeks chopped and cooked with a bit of water and butter, salt n pepper, and when soft bung some a load of grated cheese in and cook a bit longer - total yum!)

bulletwithbutterflywings · 07/01/2013 19:07

Thanks slatternly :)

slatternlymother · 07/01/2013 19:07

bullet here is a link to this thread's questions section. Just so your question gets answered properly xx

BlackAffronted · 07/01/2013 19:07

Welcome bullet, that coconut milk sounds fine - I use it in curries :)

ChristmasJubilee · 07/01/2013 19:23

B cheese omelette, mushrooms fried in butter

L creamy chicken soup, cucumber and celery sticks, pâté

D chilli con carne (without kidney beans), cabbage, leeks and sprouts stirfried in butter.

2 cups of tea with a little milk and 1 coffee with cream.

Could someone please add my weight to the spreadsheet. I have tried and failed. I'm 232lbs (I'm 14ft tall Grin)
