I thought porridge was meant to fill you up? I had porridge an hour and 20 mins ago, and am hungry again now!!

Went for a 3.5 mile walk yesterday (in the rain aswell! - dedication) and going to do the same this afternoon.

DH suggested a fat Friday takeaway for tea.. I'm not sure he gets the idea of healthy eating! He is one of this disgustingly lucky people who can stuff his face with whatever he wants and not gain weight Envy

INeedThatForkOff · 04/01/2013 11:41

Just had a bit of a disappointment / wake-up call. We have a family wedding in 5 weeks and I've been looking for a BFing-friendly outfit. I ordered a skirt and top in both sizes 14 and 16, thinking that I should be in a size 14 by then, but just in case I'd try both. Turns out I must be an 18 on the bottom anyway Sad. That is massive for me. Didn't like the clothes either, so back to the drawing board.

crazypaving · 04/01/2013 12:06

forkoff Sad it's so disappointing when you make a mistake that way round.

I was feeding DS2 at 3am last night with a seriously rumbly tummy. I ate about 1600cals yesterday - am thinking taht perhaps that isn't enough when bfing? Does anyone know if there are any guidelines for a safe threshold of calorie consumption for weightloss when bfing?

Means I'm starving today too. Been good so far, mainly because we have eff all food in the house. May have to go and eat lots of toast....both DSs are currently napping, and DS2 isn't on me!! One of the first daytime naps EVER in his own bed! Xmas Grin he'll probably wake up in five mins...

INeedThatForkOff · 04/01/2013 12:23

I would imagine you need more than that. If you look back at my food for.today, that's 40 WW pts (ie the normal diet amount of 26 + 14 for BFing). I could have extra out of my weekly allowance on top if I chose to.

I know very little about calories, but perhaps you could 'convert' it (actually WW doesn't use calories any more, but a formula based on protein, carbs, fat and fibre).

crazypaving · 04/01/2013 12:32

thanks forkoff I just wasn't sure cos I've been overeating for so long I don't really trust my appetite Sad

have eaten lunch and am still ravenous Confused ds2 has woken as expected, ds1 still not asleep singing and chatting away in his cot. what to eat that's healthy and quiet and filling...

RichManPoorManBeggarmanThief · 04/01/2013 12:59

[wanders onto thread a few days late]

Blimey- this has moved on a bit! Right- holiday over and parents have just departed for the airport, so I'm on the wagon as from tomorrow. Currently weigh 10st 9lbs and want to be 10st by 8th February when we're going on holiday (again- it's Chinese New Year and I live in HK so we all get a week off work- shame to waste it). I cant really diet strictly as I'm bf DD (5mo) who is allergic to dairy so I can't risk decreasing my milk supply as I cant supplement with formula, and expressing enough to get through my work days is stressful enough as it is. However, given the amount of crap I currently eat, I'm hoping that by just cutting out my worst excesses will yield results, so, until 8th Feb

  • No alcohol at all.
  • Drink only water or lemon tea (no coffee/dc/ soft drinks/ juices etc)
  • All remaining Christmas chocolate will be bagged up and stuffed at the back of the wardrobe in DD's room so it will take about 30 mins to get at it if I'm tempted. Will also involve waking DD up so definitely NOT worth it, as she will be a nightmare to resettle.
  • 30 mins exercise per day
  • no carbs post-6pm

I'm feeling pretty motivated. Just got my Crimbo ipod up and running and almost looking forward to the gym tomorrow.

YellowWellies · 04/01/2013 13:48

Woo richman where are you in HK? I used to live in Taikoo. I love HK so much! I could never diet there though the food it too good, and McDonalds deliver Grin which saved many a hangover for me.

Today I've had cereal, leftover shepherds pie for lunch, some dried apricots as a snack and as it's Fat Friday I'll be having fish and chips and a pickled egg for tea.

The fart soup ingredients are all chopped but someone is napping on me so it's not cooked yet but that's going to be lunch sorted for the next week I'd guess.

CandyPop · 04/01/2013 13:48

pasties that's how I use to eat pre pregnancy which worked really well. Strictest Monday to Friday afternoon then ate what I liked Friday evening and weekend (within reason!)
Was easier to implement before as was at work so can de distracted!
Good thing doubt that now is that we have weigh in Monday that should stop u from going to crazy!!

Made the lentil soup today . Very yummy and I'm full. Off for a walk now :)

CandyPop · 04/01/2013 13:50

Ah just re-read my post, some parts don't make sense but you get what I mean!

YellowWellies · 04/01/2013 13:50

Rich I'm in a similar situation - no crazy diet here due to BFing a dairy and soy intolerant wee one but your simple rules make a lot of sense. I'll be adding the no carbs post 6pm to my regime.

chroniclackofimagination · 04/01/2013 14:02

Hi can I join? DS2 is 6 1/2 weeks and I am 13 stone and 5'9. I'd like to be 10 stone, which was my weight before becoming pregnant with DS1 three years ago. I'm EBF and have an enormous breast-feeding appetite as I did with DS1 so am trying to load up on veg and protein. After GP signs me off to exercise (ELCS) I plan to take post natal class, do tupler technique for my tummy and exercise DVD at home.

applecrumple · 04/01/2013 14:07

Well I've got a bit of an issue now. Have had disc related back probs for the last 16 years, had a back op 2 years ago & just today one of my discs has popped out so lying on the sofa in a lot of pain. No exercise for me & no idea how I'm going to get comfy to feed dd in about half an ht Hmm

INeedThatForkOff · 04/01/2013 14:37

Ouch, apple, that sounds horrendous.

NappyHappy · 04/01/2013 14:40

Is anyone in Manchester?

I've managed about an hours walking with the babies and some shopping in the buggy and cleaned the carpets downstairs. Thanks dog for shitting on the path and DH for standing in it and walking it in!!

Kiddicare is ace. Hmm, if Huggies are no longer being made do you think retailers will sell the stock off cheaper??

All the Xmas choc is gone now apart from the kids stuff which I promise I won't touch. Fat Friday here too, dh has lost his bank card so its homemade chicken and veg curry for tea.

Are you shreadders seeing decent results?

funchum8am · 04/01/2013 17:26

Apple you poor thing! Do you have decent painkillers?

DH has been ill all day with some sort of tummy problem but I hope it is not infectious. Not like him at all but on the rare occasion he is ill it is his tummy so hopefully just due to him not eating enough fibre and not drinking enough water Blush. However we have no food in as we're meant to go away for the weekend so I mopped to the shops and seem to have come back with ice cream (because I have a cold) and flapjacks....oops. On the other hand have hardly eaten since having breakfast at about 5:30am, and have been up since 2 with dd and only one nap. So surely will have burned off some calories that way??

Am also having fat Friday - probably takeaway pizza. But I am establishing and exercise routine rather than cutting down food intake too much so it's allowed....honest. feel free to tell me I am being an idiot people. Will still eat pizza but will resolve to start proper diet a day or two sooner!

YellowWellies · 04/01/2013 17:34

fun I see the biggest difference from exercise and sensible eating rather than crash diets with little exercise so I don't think you're daft x

applecrumple · 04/01/2013 18:09

Thanks ladies Wink

Been to the GP whose referred me back to the surgeon who did the op & also referred me for an MRI which is good. Cant take high strength painkillers cos of BF but have got some low strength cocodomol. Dying for some junk food but am determined to stick with the healthy eating & anyway it's not like I can have pizza or anything - fun am very jealous!

ValiumQueen · 04/01/2013 18:10

Do tell me about this 'fat Friday' of which you speak.

OP posts:
funchum8am · 04/01/2013 18:14

I will be honest, I jus heard the term 'fat Friday' for the first time on here, but I liked it so I used it! I have been having fat Fridays (and Mondays, Tuesdays etc too!) for years...I just never knew the name Grin

wannabedomesticgoddess · 04/01/2013 18:20

Everyday is fat for me but I have been pushing cars up and down roads last night and today. So that must count for exercise?

Catbag · 04/01/2013 18:35

I have ordained today to be a fat day. Mostly as I have eaten bugger all today. DH has been dispatched to collect takeaway pizza Grin

TheTiger · 04/01/2013 18:39

Ahh I love Fat Friday, but I'm not succumbing tonight!

apple poor you, sounds painful.

nappyhappy I work in Manchester and live not too far away, whereabouts are you?

WaitingForMe · 04/01/2013 18:49

I had a fat Friday. I've had my DSSs and DS has been very colicky and just couldn't be bothered. DSSs were stunned when they saw the Pizza Hut guy at lunchtime.

I'm clearing the freezer in advance of low-carb batch cooking so tea is sausages and mustard mash with cabbage. Not the healthiest but we live by the freezer since DS (I made 48 meals when pregnant) and We'll only stick to an eating plan if I can pull something out in the morning and DH can cook it when he gets in.

Need an empty freezer first.

ValiumQueen · 04/01/2013 18:50

Not a very good day. Stood on mega expensive scales of DHs, and it said I had put on 4lb. I got on again and weighed 7lb less. Clearly they cannot be trusted. Then I spent the day with my three kids and my mother. It was a case of eating crap or killing her! I chose a small bit of Christmas cake and a small choc crunch square. I have decided I need to have some plan to follow as I have no idea if I am eating too much or too little. DH is doing Neutracheck online. I will do the 5 day free trial. DH rates it highly, but I think an iPhone helps.

kirrinIsland · 04/01/2013 18:51

Surely if you have eaten nothing all day then yo can have a days worth of calories in one meal catbag

:-( apple

I've not done too badly today but still room for improvement
