Is anyone watching BBC2?

There's a programme on with Michael Molesley about the benefits of it - it's very interesting and seems to have lots of health benefits.

Has anyone tried it?

Seventh, how have you found it? Have you lost any weight?
How do you feel?

Just been watching it mumofjust1.
Very interesting.
Been doing low carb for over 2 weeks now and it's ok but I am eating stuff I don't normally and am worried about all the fat!
Might try it....500 calls isn't a lot though for fast days...although I guess soup and fruit could work!
I think I could do it as long it my 2 days weren't over the weekend:)

Badvoc · 06/08/2012 22:09

The effects on his glucose and cholesterol were pretty amazing weren't they?

TeamGBIWI · 06/08/2012 22:11

Damn. I forgot all about this. Presumably it will be on iPlayer?

Badvoc · 06/08/2012 22:15

I think so biwi.
It was very very interesting.

mumofjust1 · 06/08/2012 22:47

Badvoc, yes, I was really surprised by the results.

Trying to find more info online - would like to give it a go Smile

Biwi, should be on iplayer, yep.

Interesting to see the possible physical and mental heath benefits. I seem to recall some MNetters taking part in 5;2 trials earlier this year. Is anyone still taking part? Would be good to see the longer term impact.

FelixCited · 06/08/2012 22:59

I'd like to give it a go. Is it 600 calories on a fast day?
I have no idea about calorie values..
What can you eat for that?
It looked like he had scrambled egg and meat.
I don't eat fish, eggs or meat -
where can I find ' veggie meal' ideas?
I'm so calorie clueless Blush

mumofjust1 · 06/08/2012 23:00

Felix - if you find any good info, please let me know Smile

FelixCited · 06/08/2012 23:06

5:2 diet

Yes it's 500 calories for women, 2 fast days per week.
Or are you doing the fast and feed diet? They showed earlier on?

noddyholder · 06/08/2012 23:08

Fascinating dp wants to try. Think we might

FelixCited · 06/08/2012 23:11

Felix, the 5:2 sounds good - are you going to try it? If so, I'll join you Smile

Badvoc · 07/08/2012 07:32

Think I am going to try it.
The 5:2 one

LookBehindYou · 07/08/2012 08:19

I watched it. Really interesting, especially about lowering the IGF-1 hormone.

ILoveStripeySocks · 07/08/2012 08:22

Will watch with interest those who decide to try it! Good luck :)

Shagmundfreud · 07/08/2012 09:34

I've literally JUST been watching on iplayer. Very interesting. I'm 46 and have been feeling old, fat and knackered recently. Thinking a lot about the increasing risks to my health as I get older. I'm definitely going to try this. I'll be motivated to do it for my children and my wider family.

FuntimeFelicity · 07/08/2012 10:16

I too am very interested in this. I'm 37, only 5' and am just on the cusp of being overweight (9st 7lb). My family has a history of arthritis and especially knee problems and I really need to get my weight down by 10lbs or so.

I'm doing Weight Watchers (on the minimum points) but finding that I lose 1-1.5lb each week for 4 or 5 weeks, have a weekend off (wedding, weekend away, camping) and put at least 3lb back on. It feels like I'm losing and gaining the same 5lb over and over and over again Sad.

I also know that my blood pressure is also bordering on high. Watching with interest.

On the plus side, I like black (and green) tea Grin!

Pleiades45 · 07/08/2012 10:28

It was an amazing programme. DH & I have started immediately on the 5:2. One question I do have is, do you have to have all your 500 calories in one go or can you spread them throughout the day? Either this wasn't touched or I missed it.

LookBehindYou · 07/08/2012 10:30

He says in the bbc article that he had breakfast and dinner.

Badvoc · 07/08/2012 10:34

He had breakfast and dinner:
Scrambled egg for breakfast and then fish and veg for dinner.
I am going to do it, not sure about dh.
We have both lost half a stone low carving but we both find it hard to not ever have any potatoes wi our meals.
I have ordered a calories counter from amazon as I have no idea what the calorie count of things like fruit, soup etc.
I could quite happily have eggs for breakfast, soup for lunch and salad for dinner on fast days...it's a it of a bad name really isn't it?
It should be called alternate calorie restriction, not fasting. To me, fasting means of eating at all....
