What would you class as your ideal weight? Do you use BMI or go off your clothes size?

I'm 5'10" and currently 12.11 - down from 15.6 in January. I was a size 20 at that weight. I'm now a size 12-14 top (38D) and 14 bottom (still 16 in most trousers!). Want to get to 12 st by beginning of August.

Spoke to my GP about target weight and BMI. She suggested I aim for between 12 st and 12.2 as target. That will get me just in the healthy BMI range for my height. That sounds okay to me - just hope I have the will power to stick with it for mother 8 weeks and then maintain it!

Whitamakafullo · 11/06/2012 18:48

I am 5'10" and at te moment I am 12 stone. My fighting weight is about 11 st 4 as I have a flattish stomach at that weight and that's what I'm aiming for just now. I'm about a size 12-14 at the moment, but I have a fairly large chest (34ff)

cybbo · 11/06/2012 18:59

I just don't geddit. At 12 stone I would be a large 16

HOW DOES IT WORK and where the crivens do you all buy these teensy clothes from

gnocci · 11/06/2012 19:07

5ft8.5 here and weight has ranged from 7st13 to 15stone (day I gave birth!).

Happiest weight is 9st4. At that weight my measurements were 34-24-34 and a size 8/10.

Currently 26 wks preg with DD1 and weigh 12stone on the nose so havent gained as much weight this time.

Absolutely determined to get back to 9st4 after I've had this baby.

GobblersKnob · 11/06/2012 19:15

cybbo I'm with you. I am BIG at 12 stone. I am currently 10 9 (ish) and I am still 12-14, I need to be nearer to 10 to be a 12, maybe even a smidge under, not sure as I haven't been there for so long.

RhinestoneCowgirl · 11/06/2012 19:21

I'm 5ft 8ish and currently about 10.5 stone, I'm lighter than I was before children (used to be 11-11.5 stone). This feels like a comfortable weight for me.

Clothes-wise usually 12, but have massive bosom so often have to go up a size or 2 to accommodate it.

FloraFinching · 11/06/2012 19:21

I'm 12 stone, and size 14 on top, 16 on the bottom. would probably be 16 all over but no boobage. i definitely look well covered at this weight.

Caerlaverock · 11/06/2012 20:45

DevA you need new scales or at the very least take the lead shoes off. You look great you cant weigh as much as you say

deva87 · 11/06/2012 21:26

All this is still new to me. I've never been under 13st that I can remember (I'm 25).
But def the weight I am, though have lost 4lb since last week so now weighing 11st 10. Starting to feel gaunt now though as my hip bones have never really stuck out until now.
Cybbo - I buy my clothes from normal people's shops - new look, dp, h&m unless BF is spoiling me and then I have to get a size 12 just to accommodate my boobs but he ends up grabbing handfuls of fabric instead of my waist :)

Like I've said earlier though - I have a strict physio regime that makes me improve my muscle tone and proprioception (don't ask me it still confuses me). Has to be this way otherwise I am incapacitated by pain and dislocated joints

I'm 5'10 and weigh 13.7 and wear a size 16........I exist on nearly nothing so cant understand why I cant shift the weight. I take thyroxine for an underactive thyroid so its a continual fight not to gain weight - even looking at a cake gains half a stone lol....also I am 60 yrs old so another negative as you always gain as you get older. I am guardian to two young boys - my 6 and 11 yr old grandsons so you would think I would lose weight looking after them but alas it aint happening........think I will change my nickname on here to thunde thighs or lardyBum both would be apt. ....I would love to just lost a stone but cant really excercise apart from walking as I have had both my hips replaced. Hey ho onwards and upwards............................

Doomfinger · 11/06/2012 23:06

I'm 5'9" and have somehow lost a stone lately, I'm now about 15 stone. I'm wearing mostly size 16 clothes (although after two sections and having 34H boobs it can vary by store/ style) and don't look as heavy as I am - I used to go out with a guy who was 6' and weighed 16 stone and he looked huge.

I know my ideal weight is somewhere between 11.5-12 stone but I don't think it'd look right on me as I don't look fat now and that's another 4 stone - where'd it go from???

deva87 · 12/06/2012 09:44

TJ - you're probably not eating enough and putting your body into starvation mode. You need to eat at least 1200 calories a day to stop that happening and also eat breakfast within an hour of getting up.

Doomfinger - I know what you mean. I can't see where the rest of this weight is supposed to go (Ideal weight for 5ft 9 is apparently 10st 9, BMI 22). You sound like your built like I am, I'm a little under 12st now and I look like a twig, if I don't stick to my diet religiously I go straight back to 12st 3 and stay there which I think is my body's ideal weight.

My BF is 6ft 2 and a little over 13st and eats like an absolute horse and stays a 32" waist. I'm SO jealous and it winds me up that I'm now light enough for him to just pick me up but I know if he carries on eating like that after he leaves the army it'll soon catch up with him!!

bigTillyMint · 12/06/2012 10:15

Oooh Deva, I would be under my ideal weight if I was an inch taller!

However, it isn't that simple - I would still have my saddlebags, bingo wings and gunt even at 2 or 3 inches tallerAngry I know I can lessen the flab on my belly with specific exercises and diet, but if I lose a lot, I look all bony on my chest and my hip bones whilst still keeping the saddlebags and bingo wings.

Doomfinger · 12/06/2012 13:04

I'm not really a bad eater, the weight lost is because of a bout of h pylori a couple of months ago that is still making it uncomfortable to eat (although not got my family rushing me to hospital thinking I'm dying!) I'm not sure what'll happen when I get over it.

I'm not going to deliberately try to lose weight, I don't think I need to, I don't care what my BMI says! I watch my mum, sister and SIL going from one diet to another and it doens't look like much fun, they're good at sticking to them whilst they're on them, Mum just has a busy work life so can't always follow a good routine and SIL goes back to normal afterwards I think. They're currently on a shakes only type diet and complaining about food they're missing...

deva87 · 12/06/2012 18:13

Yeah I don't think hip and rib bones sticking out is a good look tbh. I think I'm just gonna say stuff BMI and stick to what I feel comfortable.

I don't wanna be like my aunties and cousins on constant diets for the next 30 years lol
