Mounjaro and constipation.

Has anyone found a solution to the constipation issue? It's getting worse each month, so much so that I actually look pregnant today!

I am drinking so much water that I genuinely can't increase that, I do at least 10,000 steps a day and do a lot of manual work. My diet is really good as I grow all my own veg and have good amounts of protein.

I really suffer with this. What works for me are dried prunes (the Whitworths ones are nice). 6 a day. Also raw fresh pineapple and kiwis.

VC10vTristar · 10/08/2026 11:22

The only thing that works for me is adding 1 - 2 tbs olive oil, which seems to effectively coat the bowel and ease transit within about 10 to 14 hours. Plus 3 senna tablets a day. Started gagging drinking the oil, so now trying capsules, but the oil has worked.

It’s been severe for me, none of my usual things work, everything backs up - plums, prunes, pineapple, beetroot, kiwi - just solid.

Perianth · 10/08/2026 11:30

Prunes is a good call, and prune juice too. I also take fibre tablets - Psyilium husk. Movicol if things really won't move.

nickdrakeslovechild · 10/08/2026 11:46

ITha s for the replies. I haven't tried Prunes so will give them a go! Would prefer to try natural first as laxatives give me cramps.

Cosmolco ! I duscovered it last month after having such a problem i was only going once a week and then it was agony. A friend told me about it.
Going every day with no problem. I used one a day for the first week, now once every two days.
Bliss!

WeeklyJab · 10/08/2026 11:52

5 tinned prunes in my yogurt at breakfast seems to work for me.

ThirdStorm · 10/08/2026 11:56

I take psyllium husk capsules, keep me regular.

NcNcMj · 10/08/2026 11:57

Have name changed for this!

First thing in the morning on an empty stomach, cut up half a lemon and pour boiling water over, let it stew/cool a little and drink.
It helped me quite a few times.

But I had a few instances where I just could not go and the only way I could was a self enema 😖 I bought a bottle thing off amazon. Not the most dignified moment of my journey but it worked quickly.

PearlsTeapot · 10/08/2026 12:21

I tried everything over the last year but have now resorted to Laxido (movicol). You can buy it over the counter, I get it free from the GP now. I have one sachet a day and now go every other day as opposed to once a week.

Nothing else worked. I was using my calories on prunes, kiwis etc.

RobinEllacotStrike · 10/08/2026 13:22

There is evidence 2 kiwis a day keeps you regular. Works for me.

morbidcuriosity · 10/08/2026 16:30

I have to have laxido every now and then. When I feel I not been for a few days I have a couple and that normally gets things moving. I also eat prunes, but not every day.
Kewi with the skin on is good apparently.

Yellowsubmarine55 · 10/08/2026 17:06

Prunes and psyllium husk are the only things that have helped me.

S0upertrooper · 10/08/2026 17:16

Be careful if this continues for you. I was on ozempic, it was brilliant for weight loss, food noise etc but I was terribly constipated. At first this felt good because I'd always suffered from IBS. However, over time I developed SIBO (where bacteria from the large intestine overgrows in the small intestine) and I became really ill.

I don't think this would have happened if i's had a daily bowel movement.

7238SM · 10/08/2026 17:17

I've been on mounjaro 2mths and have started to keep a poo diary. I'm not a troll I promise, but I was losing track of when I'd been and would feel SO full and bloated and realise it was likely days ago. What I do, in this order:

-Try to have chia and pumpkin seeds with my morning yoghurt, along with berries. I say try because I don't always have that for breakfast
-Include kiwi. Apparently eating the skins helps more, but I haven't done that so far.
-I take a movicol/laxido sachet if I haven't been in a few days. It adds water to the bowel to soft things up and doesn't cause the bowel to rely on the stimulation like some other laxatives do- such as senna
-I have glycerine suppositories if all else fails, but only got to this stage in the early days

Above all the water, walking, diet etc, the way you sit on the toilet can have an even bigger bearing on how easy it is to open your bowels. Squatting makes it much easier to poo than sitting on a western toilet in a seated position. Anything to raise your feet up with help- bricks, large tins or a squatty potty like the pic.

Mounjaro and constipation.
ElaraWillowMontrose · 13/08/2026 21:49

I had this issue too, and sometimes water, fibre and staying active just weren't enough. MJ can definitely affect digestion, so hopefully they can suggest something that works for you

AmIReallyTheGrownup · 13/08/2026 21:57

You need to up the big guns with insoluble fibre.

Try soaking 10g of chia seeds, add yoghurt, fruit & honey, and top with 30g of bran sticks.

Or, 10g soaked chia seeds with 2 Weetabix soaked in milk, yoghurt & fruit.

Lentil soup is good as well.

Lastly, a squatty potty to help your bowels relax & release.

RobinEllacotStrike · 13/08/2026 23:09

My "big guns" if 🥝🥝doesnt work is to make seeded crackers.

super easy to make - lots of variations out there & excellent normal services swiftly resume.

I eat for lunch with hummous, cheese, tomato, avocado etc.

Magnesium citrate tablets or gummies were the only thing that worked for me. My doctor suggested them and they worked a treat.

WeAllHaveWings · 13/08/2026 23:39

Magnesium supplement and lots of water nightly works wonders for me. The magnesium draws the water into the intestines to keep everything soft. I have one capsule a night and two if things are backing up and it always gently sorts it out by morning,

Squat step helps to to raise feet for a better position.

If really desperate a glycerin suppository works reliably within a couple of hours, Surprisingly easy to do.

AgnesMcDoo · 13/08/2026 23:40

Prunes
orange juice
apple juice
scotch or chicken broth
kiwi fruit
porridge

ate all natural laxatives

DBatteryBand · 14/08/2026 07:16

Sympathies. Constipation is horrible. I usually do ok by taking psyllium husk every day and eating lots of berries, however I did have a terrible week around Christmas last year. In desperation, I swallowed a dose of Dulcolax liquid, and then when things didn't happen within a few hours I impatiently and foolishly swallowed another two spoonfuls. Well. Cataclysmic doesn't even start to cover it. Thankfully I was at home, but I'll leave you to imagine the details.

Basically, if you're going to take something, Dulcolax is highly effective but make sure you follow the recommended dose. And don't wear your best knickers.😬

nickdrakeslovechild · 18/08/2026 11:17

Thanks everyone, I have been on prunes and already have lots of berries and take chia seeds, so have also added Kiwi's and still no significant movement :-(

I am looking at a long term gut supplement so looking at biomel or dr vegan or gut gummies. For immediate help going to use Ducolax.

OP posts:
nickdrakeslovechild · 19/08/2026 15:38

I went to Boots yesterday and spoke with an assistant who is also on MJ and knew exactly what I needed. Firstly Ducolax. I took just one yesterday and TMI.. I have got rid of about a week's worth of back up.
She also recommended peppermint capsules for the gas build up which has 100% made a huge difference already and said she wouldn't be without the Wellthy Daily high fibre gummies, so I've also started on those.

My bloating has virtually gone today despite the constant toilet trips, so fingers crossed this should work for the longer term too.

Kazzaa46 · 19/08/2026 21:56

Duculox always worked for me too.
Not sure how long you’ve been on MJ but I’ve been on it for 11 months and had horrendous constipation for the first 4 months but it had resolved by month 5 and I’ve been ok since so hopefully it won’t be a permanent issue for you either.

Boreded · 19/08/2026 22:00

Eat a whole pack of sugar free polos.
