Has anyone had a horrible time on MJ?

I’m on week three and it’s progressively getting worse- I’m currently on holiday with my family and can’t eat at all (yesterday I had two crackers and an apricot!!)

I responded immediately to my first ever dose and felt sick that day but it hasn’t previously been this bad. I don’t know if it’s possible I have some kind of bug as well as I’m getting cold sweats.

I just feel so silly that I’ve ruined our family holiday in my pursuit of losing some weight. Was just wondering if anyone out there had a bad time on it?

I’m not even on MJ and I’m aware that loads seem to have a pretty horrific time on it!

Butnotreally1 · Yesterday 06:31

I guess you’ll be losing weight at a pretty astonishing rate though!

susiedaisy1912 · Yesterday 07:05

What dose are you on? Are you staying hydrated?

HelenDenver · Yesterday 07:13

Please don’t feel silly. You are trying to improve your health and that is also good for your family in the long run.

petitdonkey · Yesterday 07:13

2.5 - yes drinking water all day.

I honestly am wondering if it’s a bug- my stomach turns at the thought of any food. Currently contemplating getting a flight home today.

It could well be a bug especially as you felt better than this after dose one.

BalakayAARon · Yesterday 07:14

You probably caught something on the plane. Hope you feel better soon.

ETA I don't think you should fly while ill.

susiedaisy1912 · Yesterday 07:17

Skip your next dose and then try again. You have my sympathy op I’ve been ill on MJ when I upped a dose and it was no fun. Just ride it out, a bug, or the side effects of MJ either way it won’t last forever it will pass.

durdledoris · Yesterday 07:27

There is a sickness butlg going around where l love at the moment so it is out there

KentishMama · Yesterday 07:46

Delay your next dose until you feel 100%. Also, consider reducing a bit to e.g. 2 mg. You're a super responder. It happens. Your body will adjust to it and you won't feel quite as extreme over time.

How long left of the holiday?

How long left of the holiday?

Here until Saturday- I just want to magic home! Spoke to med express who have prescribed cycluzine- it just happens that DS’s girlfriend had some here so I’ve been taking them but they aren’t doing anything.

thanks for taking the time to reply all- I’m just feeling very sorry for myself!! I’ve been so looking forward to this holiday!!

Do your family know you are on MJ?

FormerFatty · Yesterday 08:17

Sounds awful. Poor you.

I had little appetite when on it but no nausea. In fact, I felt extremely well. If you’ve tolerated previous doses, it could well be a bug.

Apart from the feeling wretched, I’d be really concerned that eating virtually nothing will trigger your hair to shed rapidly in a month or 2. I’d delay your next dose.

Hi @petitdonkey I just wanted to say that I also had a really awful time on MJ at first. Week 3 was absolutely horrendous, I had to take time off work, I felt so ill. I decided to miss my next dose and then started doing 1.25mg every 3.5 days. The difference is night and day. I tolerate this so much better and the weight is dropping nicely now with very minimal side effects. I hope you feel better soon. x

Are you managing to stay hydrated?

Are you vomiting or have diarrhoea. If not I would try my best to eat something to try to get your blood sugars up. Even snacking on mixed nuts during the day. Or toast etc if you can manage it.

Assuming you are abroad as you mentioned a flight, did you inform your travel insurance in case you need medical assistance?

I can drink water and have just had a glass of orange juice but can’t eat - have managed half a cream cracker this morning. Beautiful breakfast spread here and the thought of any of it turns my stomach!

No d&v thankfully- my tummy rumbles like it might but there’s nothing in there.

Op do you family know you’re on MJ and supportive?

Thank you for this post- I think I was actually hoping that I’d find someone who had experienced this (not that I’d wish it on anyone!!)

I don’t think I’ll continue when I get back- this doesn’t feel like a good thing to do to my body and I feel so bad that my whole family is worried and having their holiday affected!

Op do you family know you’re on MJ and supportive?

Before we came DH knew and was supportive but very unsure if it was a good thing. I’ve told them all since we’ve been here - they are being lovely about it but it makes me feel very like it’s self inflicted and I hadn’t wanted to tell my 17yr old as I’m not sure it’s sending the right message but here we are!!

the early weeks/months on MJ were difficult for me but I just persevered. I only get the reduction of appetite/food noise now and otherwise don't know I've had it.

you'll know soon enough if it’s a d&v bug - and it won’t care if there’s nothing in your stomach. Others will likely catch it to.
It sounds like it might be a reaction to the jabs.

KrazyKatty · Yesterday 08:47

Either the dose is too strong for you and you need to reduce it and build up more gradually, you’re eating the wrong foods while on MJ or you’ve picked up a bug?

I suspect number 3 is the most likely seeing as you’ve travelled abroad on holiday and could have picked up something on the plane or eaten something dodgy. The sweats are your body’s way of increasing your temperature to fight infection.

I’d avoid orange juice as it’s very acidic and you might be better with alkaline drinks such as milk.

If you’re not actually obese, maybe look at other ways to lose a bit of weight?

A week of being unwell and not eating WILL NOT trigger telogen effluvium, ( hair shedding)

Outside of post partum pregnancy when hair loss is the normal hair growth cycle recommencing, it’s a prolonged reduction in nutrients that can trigger sudden hair loss.

The majority of people who tend to suffer hair loss whilst on WLI are usually the ones who are eating far too little and using diet shakes instead of eating regular healthy balanced meals with a good balance of nutrients.
