Weight Loss Injections didn’t work for me

copperbeechtrees · 23/06/2026 16:05

I lost 6 pounds in 2 months and then nothing for 6 months. Felt nauseous all the time. Has this happened to anyone else? I was on WeGovy. Has anyone got any suggestions of other WLI I could try please?

Mounjaro?

Junejunejune · 23/06/2026 16:11

More people have sucess with mounjaro but you also need to follow a calorie controlled diet.

copperbeechtrees · 23/06/2026 16:54

@Junejunejune I was hardly eating anything anyway. 🤷‍♀️

I would see a GP if you were barely eating anything for 6 months and not losing weight.

In the UK at the moment, there is Wegovy - injections, and shortly there will be the tablet version available. Then there's Mounjaro, which is more effective than Wegovy and mimics two hormones rather than the one that Wegovy does. There is also the older GLP1 liraglutide which is sold as Nevolat in the UK, but that's a daily injection and it's less effective than Wegovy. So that's your choice for GLP1 medication at the moment.

BravasPatatas · 23/06/2026 17:31

If you were barely eating anything (were you tracking calories?) and not losing weight then I’d see a GP as it sounds like there must be something else going on.

That doesn't make sense. If you were in a calorie deficit you would have lost weight. Were you tracking?

copperbeechtrees · 23/06/2026 19:54

Ok. Maybe barely eating is an exaggeration 😂 Yes. I was tracking. I was on about 1200 calories. I have an overactive thyroid but it’s treated. I think my expectations were that I would lose easily. Maybe I should try MJ? Thank you for all your responses.

Do you need to reduce your thyroid meds?

AlphabetCucumber · 23/06/2026 20:06

Wegovy did nothing for me, but Mounjaro has worked like magic even on the lowest dose. I’d try that.

Not much point trying another WLI if you eating 1200 calories didn’t help you lose weight. Surely you wouldn’t want to be eating less than that?

SilenceInside · 23/06/2026 20:53

@copperbeechtreesare you very short and sedentary?

It depends on her height. TLDR can be very low for shorter people. At 5'5" I wouldn't have lost weight at 1200kcal without the support of MJ.

MJ would certainly be worth a try if Wegovy didn't work.

Mysticmaiden · 23/06/2026 21:00

At 5ft 3 and 13 stone my deficit was 1300 to lose 1lb a week. Now it's 1000. 1200 may not be enough to lose depending on height and weight.

You’re not even short… you’re actually 2 inches taller than average height. I’m 5’3 and absolutely would lose weight on 1200 even now I’m 8st.

It is if you do literally any exercise

Yes, I’m 5ft 5 and lost weight steadily on 1700 cals! Depends how active you are I guess.

The absolute cheek of you...I have a very active job working upto 41hrs a week and a 3hr drive commute on top. I'm on my feet most of the day for my job in the nhs and I also do body toning classes with a muscle mass of 38% and my tdee is still currently 1450! So pipe down sunshine.

Or it depends on your body? That's why MJ or WLI work in currently somewhat mysterious ways.

I can eat a lot more on MJ than I could without it. It isn't simply CICO, and activity levels have little to no bearing.

copperbeechtrees · 23/06/2026 22:46

Im 5ft 2. I walk at least 10000 steps every day and do some cardio at the gym once a week. So not loads but not sedentary. I think @Mysticmaiden might be right and I need to eat less than 1200 but it’s hard. I’ll give MJ a try to see if it works any better.

OP posts:
morbidcuriosity · 24/06/2026 10:25

5 foot 2. That sadly doesn't help you as your tdee will be so low.. have another go at properly weighing and counting your food. I say this as a friend asked me to help her and she wasn't adding the calories for mayonnaise etc. And it was surprising how small 200 calories of that stuff is.. if I remember one meal she said was like 400 calories but we added it up and it was 850 I think..

Not saying your not counting correctly but worth another go maybe?

And also, try mounjaro, its amazing!

TomClarkson · 24/06/2026 10:38

I’m 5’2 and have lost 9 stone on 1500/1600 calories. I know we are all different but I don’t think going lower than 1200 to lose weight at that height is at all healthy. I would probably speak to the GP to investigate tbh. The calorie deficit not working is the issue here, not the choice of WLI

copperbeechtrees · 24/06/2026 14:38

@morbidcuriosity yes for sure. It’s definitely worth double checking and I will do.Thank you. I suppose. in my hopeful ignorance, I thought, oh great I’m on WLI so I don’t really need to be very thorough. If I’d been doing SW or WW I would have checked every bite. Sounds as though MJ is worth a go.

OP posts:
copperbeechtrees · 24/06/2026 14:40

@TomClarksonmaybe. I feel well though. Perhaps I am eating more calories than I realise.

So you were not actually tracking?
You need to track. Relying on appetite suppression alone won't work for long if it works at all, and it also doesn't help with the mental habit changing that you ideally want to be doing along with reducing intake.

You do need to check every bite. The way they work is to suppress your appetite. You still need to ensure you are eating a suitable diet for weight loss. I’m 5’8” and need to keep to under 1200 calories to lose about 1.5 lb every fortnight. I would not have the willpower without WLI.
