Taking my first jab! - Mounjaro

My Mounjaro has arrived!! I’m really, really nervous. I’ve joined a Facebook page which seems to be full of a lot of negativity. I just need a hand hold and some positive feedback to help me build the courage up!

planning on injecting this eve!

I’d unfollow that Facebook page! What are you nervous about - the actual injection or taking the medication itself? Or a bit of both?

I would just read the paper leaflets carefully before starting, and check that you are happy with each step. Then just get on and do it. It will be a massive anticlimax afterwards, honestly.

Thank you! - I am now unfollowing.

it’s a combination of everything. I have a bit of health anxiety and basically feel like I will get the rare side effects!

it took me 5 years to work up the courage to take sertraline - I did in the end and was the best decision I made.

im so desperate for this to be a successful chapter! Just need some encouragement and some good stories!

The only regret I have is not starting sooner. I had a few gastric side effects when I went up to 5mg and again to a lesser extent on 7.5mg but they were short lived and nothing that couldn’t be managed and dealt with. Then, I’ve not had any side effects for the rest of the time I’ve been on Mounjaro.

I did the first dose!

I didn’t feel a thing and wasn’t convinced it had gone in. That was very easy.

thank you guys!

hoping for a really positive outcome and some happiness!

I would love to be brave enough to start, so good luck Op!

What do you do now? When will it start to have an impact? Do you also follow a meal plan or what do you eat / drink?

Where did you get it from?

SilenceInside · 16/06/2026 19:01

@LibbyL92 ah, brill, glad you found it straightforward.

One thing that I sometimes wish I’d done is taken measurements as well as my starting weight. I could only bring myself to get the tape measure out after a few months and knowing I’d lost a chunk of weight at that point. But I don’t know what my measurements were at the start, so don’t know exactly how much they’ve changed.

@FrankieMcGrath the medication takes about 8 to 72 hours to reach its peak in your system and then it gradually wears off until only half of it is left after 7 days. You can follow a traditional diet plan if you like, or just see how your appetite is affected and eat less. For me, I very quickly didn’t want to snack and had to actively remember to eat at meal times. I had a very distinct feeling of being full much quicker than I ever had before and then not being hungry between meals. I also went right off carbs, particularly white processed carbs, and wanted to eat protein and veg more than anything else. But a lot of people don’t get effects like that until the second or subsequent weeks.

Overtheatlantic · 16/06/2026 19:05

Drink your water and eat your protein, and best of luck!

susiedaisy1912 · 16/06/2026 19:08

Op just do it. Stay on the lowest dose for longer than the 4 weeks, as long as you’re loosing weight there’s no need to increase the dose, stay hydrated, prioritise protein, fruit & veg, get enough sleep and stay active. I was nervous as hell my first week I took it but I’ve now lost 90lbs over 2 years and feel great. I’m so thankful for MJ it has changed my life completely.

I would join the June 2026 starters thread on here. I had a lot to lose so am in my month start and some weight loss target groups.

I took measurements from the beginning and do every 4 weeks, also the same with photos, I use the MeThreeSixty app also for this.

HappyWineDay · 17/06/2026 10:36

I would echo what posters have said about taking your starting measurements. Also, you might want to consider taking photos of yourself. I do this once a month in my underwear. I look back at the photos I took at the start and can't believe it's me. So pleased I took them though - if nothing else, to remind me not to go back there!

LibbyL92 · 17/06/2026 18:10

Thank you everyone! 24 hours later and I’ve felt a bit tired today, but zero hunger! Drank lots of water and ate well! It’s so weird not feeling hungry! Not sure if it’s a placebo effect but I’m liking my so far!

OP posts:
PearlsTeapot · 17/06/2026 18:18

It was the same for me from day 1! Remember to eat protein and drink lots of water. Like silenceinside, my only regret is not starting sooner. Good luck on your weight loss journey! Join the monthly thread if there is one for June (I'm sure there is).

susiedaisy1912 · 18/06/2026 09:51

Glad it’s gone well for you op. You might your whole thought process towards food changes over time not just your appetite. For me the lack of food noise took some getting used to. It freed up a lot of my time which I had to fill doing other things. I found there were a lot of habits around food that suddenly seemed unimportant once I was on MJ. That’s taken a while to adjust to. Good luck with your journey

How did you fill your time (if you don’t mind me asking!)?

Congrats!

I’ll have been on MJ 2 years in July. Lost over 6stone and I’m transformed in every way

this is where you will get to!

in the beginning I found the day after the jab I felt a little bit fragile, so initially, do the jab on the day before a quieter day.

just take things slowly. It won’t always be like that. When you move up the early doses to the next level, the nausea can return, but again, take things easy, and you will be fine.

Now… PSA here and I can’t stress this enough….

DRINK WATER!

at any moment you can, you will need a good 3l a day to help this medicine work and to help your tummy and digestive system.

you don’t want the constipation.

i had those fibro-gel sachets to begin with, they really help, but if im faffing about or busy, even now, if i dont get enough water, everything slows to a halt.

EXERCISE: try to keep as much muscle as you can by doing resistance and load bearing exercises.

When you lose body fat, there is a phase of wobbly ness that’s quite disconcerting, but keep going, keep working out and think long term.

i am SO DELIGHTED I did this, im never going back to fat!

good luck!

good to know about wobbly bits! I’ve got dumbbells which I plan on using daily/squats/sit ups ect!

cannot afford the gym with this on top so home work outs will have to do!

@LibbyL92 Good for you!

there are plenty of workouts on line, short and often is the way to do it, get yourself into a routine

5mins a day, then build it.

can you run? Try a couch to 5k programme, they’re free 😊

I’m really late to the whole MJ thing and just starting to contemplate it having failed every other weight loss plan going 🥺 Am I correct in thinking it’s about £200 per month? Also, how do you sign up and order it (and know it’s legitimate!) That worries me not buying the correct medication. Thank you.

SilenceInside · 24/06/2026 18:52

@Moonlightdust you need an online pharmacy (or a high street one that offers weight loss) that is GPhC regulated. You can see a list with price comparisons here:

https://monj.co.uk/discount-mounjaro-price-list/

This shows the prices with any initial new customer discounts applied. After your first month, you would need to check the full Retail price to see what the costs would be. Everyone starts on the 2.5mg dose, and whether/when you need to move up to the next dose depends on how it goes for you. You can see that the price rises with the dosage.

So, you pick one of the pharmacies off that list, go to their website and fill out the online consultation form. You will be asked for things like ID, photos, video, or asked to book a video call to verify your weight/BMI. Exactly what depends on each pharmacy. Then if you're approved, they send you the medication, which needs to be kept at refrigerated temp (2 to 8 degrees C) so it comes in an insulated package with ice packs. It then goes in the fridge before you start using it.

Thank you. Do you inform your GP? Is it just one injection a day? How do you know when to increase the dose? Similarly I am really worried about side affects 🙈
