Has anyone stayed on a lower dose of weight loss injections long term and still lost a lot?

I did a month on 2.5, a week on 3.75 and tomorrow will be my 6th dose of 5. I am still having decent suppression and little food noise so I am hoping to keep the price down and stay on 5mgs long term.
Has anyone else been able to stay on a lower dose long term without having to go up the doses? Just wondering if I am deluding myself and will have to go up as time passes.

I've lost 1 and a half stone since starting at the beginning of March but have another 5 and a half stone I would like to lose.

I think quite a lot of people do. I went up to a max of 7.5mg after about 5 months and lost a total of 34 kilos over a year or so, but the main loss of 30kg was over 32 weeks. Now maintaining on 5mg and will probably cut down a bit more.

Some people stay on lower doses and lose more, judging by these threads.

MoneyJo · 20/05/2026 13:11

Thank you. I'm really keen to hear how that works for people. Did you notice a big difference when you went up to 7.5? How long did you stay on that?
I feel good on 5 but am aware I might get used to it and need to go up.

I think I did notice a bit of a difference when I went up to 7.5, but I was probably also just impatient. I didn’t wait until I’d had a stall, I just went up when I thought I was feeling a bit more peckish. Now I know that my appetite varies a lot week to week, so I probably could have stuck it out.

I haven’t felt much difference on the way back down the doses, but I was still slowly losing on 7.5 and 6.25, and now I’m steady on 5.

twilightcafe · 20/05/2026 13:23

Try injecting another part of your body. I've been on 5mg for six months. Switched from stomach to inner thigh and definitely noticed an increase in appetite suppression.

IsItSnowing · 20/05/2026 13:28

I didn't but I have a friend who has stayed on the lowest dose of wegovy and has lost 100lbs. She's at target and looking to come off it now.
I went up when the food noise returned but if you're still ok and losing best to stay on a low dose.

Ineedanewsofa · 20/05/2026 13:31

I’ve been on 2.5mg since July last year and have lost 28.5kg. 1.5kg to go!
I’ve never chased suppression as a goal, instead I focused on feeling full after a normal portion of food. As long as that keeps happening, I’ll stay on 2.5mg

NotAChanceIn · 20/05/2026 13:32

Did 2.5mg for 4 months, then 3.75 for another 3 months, up to 4ish for a couple, now on 5mg. Tried 6.2 but way too strong so back to 5mg. Been on it for 18 months and lost 5stone plus :)
been very slow and steady with some plateaus along the way :)

boundtobe · 20/05/2026 13:51

Three months on 2.5 mg, another three on 3.33 or 3.75 mg before I moved up to 5 mg to lose the last few pounds to reach goal.

I've been in maintenance now for approx 8 weeks and have gone back down to 3.75 mg. If I can maintain on 2.5 mg I'm going to start spacing out doses further than every 7 days.

gwrbakes · 20/05/2026 13:57

18 months. 14 of those on 2.5mg then upped to 5mg gradually. Lost 9 stone.

VeganSteakAndFries · 20/05/2026 14:02

Yup. 3st on 2.5mg 5 months.

Bulbsbulbsbulbs · 20/05/2026 14:04

I lost 3 and a half stone on 5. It stopped working for me, I went up a dose and it just didn't work anymore. So I can't lose the last stone, but feel OK about it

ithinkilikethislittlelife · 20/05/2026 14:06

Me and my husband started on 2.5 and after a month or two went up to 5mg and stayed there. We are both now at goal weight (he lost 8 stone and I lost 4) and we are now back on 2.5mg.

HeidiLite · 20/05/2026 14:18

yes I lost pretty much all my weight on 2.5. Went up briefly to 5 when I got stuck at the very end, but then back again

Ponderingwindow · 20/05/2026 14:21

this is how my doctor does things. I’m on Wegovy. I stay at each dose until it seems to stop working. I’ve been on 1.7 for 6 months I think. Total I have lost 70lbs.

It’s about 1lb a week on average which is not the rapid weight loss some people get. The advantage is the side effects are low and I’m not having any skin issues so far.

despite being in the U.S., I’m only paying $25 a month for this because I have excellent insurance. My friends and family who have to pay out of pocket aren’t willing to use the slow and steady approach, despite it being the one preferred by doctors in our area.

cupfinalchaos · 20/05/2026 14:22

I lost a stone in two months on 2.5. Have maintained it without going hungry. I found whole thing was so easy which came as a surprise.

FuriousInventions · 20/05/2026 14:25

Never went up from 2.5mg, lost 24kg in 10 months. Now maintaining at 1.25mg. They say 2.5mg is a placebo dose but that hasn’t been the case for me, I suppose I must be quite sensitive to the active ingredient.

ThirdStorm · 20/05/2026 14:36

I lost 5st on 2.5mg. I always share my story on threads like these as I think there is a lot of perceived (and actual) pressure to go up the doses but that should be a personal decision based on how you react to the medication.

HeidiLite · 20/05/2026 14:38

yes I agree, there's so much talk how you must go up a dose and 2.5 is not therapeutic - while in reality, many people don't need more and plenty of people also lose all they want on microdoses.

wendywoopywoo222 · 20/05/2026 14:47

ive lost 7 stone 9lb in 13 months all on 2.5 dose. It doesn’t suppress my appetite as such so I can still eat a 3 course meal if I want to but the magic of it is that I don’t want to anymore.

ConfusedMiddleAger83 · 20/05/2026 15:08

I’ve lost over 7 stone after a year on mounjaro. I’ve suffered quite bad gastric side effects including gastritis, I’ve tried to get to a 5mg dose a few times but the side effects have been too bad, so for now I’m on 4.25mg. I only try 0.25mg increments these days and am not sure I’ll ever make it to 5mg!

I don’t have strong suppression but I feel full very quickly and continue to lose weight at a steady pace on this dose. I’ve still 3.5 stone ish to go.

I think this is kind of where I am. I probably could eat more for dinner, I could go and get a snack from the cupboard but I just don't want to.

So many interesting responses thank you.
I'm optimistic that I might be able to just stay on 5 for a long time. If I can keep losing 2lb ish a week I would be happy with that.

perimenopoppet · 20/05/2026 17:11

Another one here - lost over 4 stone in 8 months never going above 5 and most of it on 2.5/3.33. Been maintaining almost another 6 months now on 2.5/2 and reducing gradually. For many of us the higher doses aren’t needed. I would note that I was only obese in perimenopause, for 3ish years, not lifelong. I don’t know if that made it easier as obese wasn’t my ‘set point’.

Yellowsubmarine55 · 20/05/2026 17:38

I did about a year in 2.5 and lost over 5 stone. Now up to 3.5 to lose last bit.

I only increased as weight loss stalled for weeks so a little more help was needed.

Somethingsnapped · 20/05/2026 17:50

Yes, I've done 9 months on 2.5mg, and lost a few pounds off 4 stone. I'm nearly at target. I don't want to go over 2.5, so if my weight loss stops, I'll just call it quits.

I don't get supression anymore I don't think, I only really had that for a couple of months. But the MJ is still working its magic in the background. Weight loss has slowed down to about half a pound a week, but I'm happy with that at this point.
