Going on holiday abroad and Mounjaro

Sunnyskiesa · 19/04/2026 09:36

I will be going on holiday abroad in a few months and I will be at the 3rd week of my 3rd injection.
At the moment I am still on syringe number 1 so I am starting to plan what and how to do it and I need suggestions from more experienced people.
Ideally I want to avoid bringing the medicine with me, I want to fully enjoy the food on holiday and two weeks of break from it will be alright. Also I want to avoid having to bring the syringe through airport security etc.
Now…. what do you think I should do?
Is stopping for two weeks while I am on holiday wise?
If I do so, once I come back from holiday, will I have to start again from 2.5mg?
Will I have to discard the 4th dose that I won’t be able to take as I will be already on holiday? That’s will be quite annoying for the waste of money.
Could I maybe space out the days in which I jab on the 2nd syringe and avoid altogether buying injection number 3 before I go on holiday?

There are lots of recent threads on this subject in this section. It might be worth reading some of them for different perspectives.

Personally I would just take the pen, jab as usual, enjoy food in smaller amounts than before and enjoy not gaining weight. That's my plan for when we go in a couple of months.

xanthomelana · 19/04/2026 09:58

If you are on the third week you should still be on 2.5mg unless I’ve misunderstood?

I skipped my injection for holiday in the past and it makes no difference, it takes a while to wear off and get out of your system so my appetite was still suppressed.

SilenceInside · 19/04/2026 09:58

I would just take it with me and dose as normal. I wouldn’t be discarding a dose of medication or pausing my treatment because of a holiday. I have been on several holidays and enjoyed the food without issue, just less of it.

If you want to stop taking the medication for two weeks then I would see if you can adjust the days you take it so that the fourth (or additional fifth dose if you use it) from the pen is the last one you do before you stop treatment. Then you won’t leave a pen open for the time you’re away. After two weeks, you might want to consider doing a lower dose (if not on 2.5mg). Do you think you’d be on 5mg or even 7.5mg by then?

I wouldn't be stoppytaki g it so close to starting. I'd carry on taking as normal. I took pen on holiday and put it in my luggage case. I had no problems. On 2.5 mg you won't be getting a lot of appetite suppression anyway.

Airport security doesn’t care about your pen…. You will probably undo your weight loss going off it for 2 weeks at this point. Just start again when you come back. Personally I’ve always just carried on since I actually wanted to lose weight.

I have been on some holidays while on WLI, I still enjoy the food, I just eat a lot less and maybe avoid fatty food, that I don't eat anyway as my stomach doesn't like it.

WLI are also a way to re-evaluate your life, you need to realise that you can't avoid holidays permanently but you can minimise the weight gain by learning sensible choices for the long term.

I feel the same around drugs being animal tested including cancer drugs. Not just ‘fatty jabs’. Personally, I’d use peadophiles, rapists and murderers but apparently that’s frowned upon.

Easylifeornot · 19/04/2026 11:21

Take the pen and lose the weight. You need to change your lifestyle permenantly. To be me, especially so early in your jorney, it would be like an alcoholic wanting to just drink on holiday.

RedApplePie · 19/04/2026 11:44

I wouldn’t increase a dose in the couple of weeks before a holiday, which may mean I stayed on the same dose slightly longer than planned, but otherwise I’d take it with me and carry on as normal.

I agree - l will be carrying on with mine when l go away as it is a whole lifestyle change that l want to sustain.

I have absolutely no idea why my previous response was deleted… certainly not by me!

SilenceInside · 19/04/2026 12:52

Because it broke the talk guidelines presumably and someone reported it to MN. That’s the usual reason why posts are deleted. Maybe start your own thread if you have something you want to discuss that isn’t relevant to the OP and her thread.

This should be a lifetime change to your eating habits, stopping so you can eat as you used to is contradictory and says you’re still thinking with your fat brain and focused on what you can consume.

just throw the pen in your hand luggage with rhe liquids, a few extra needles. You can still enjoy your food and drink. But unless you accept you are changing your eating habits for a life time, them you’re going to fail at some point

Kitt1 · 19/04/2026 15:42

I’ve just returned from holiday and jabbed as usual whilst there as I’ve lost over 3 stones so far and don’t want to undo all the hard work.

You can still eat but it helps you to make sensible choices and not get fixated on food and drink.

Surely, if you’re on WLI, you want to change some aspect of your relationship with food?

Sunnyskiesa · 19/04/2026 16:00

Thanks everyone. So, do you put your syringe in suitcase or in cabin bags? If cabin, do you need any letter when you go through security?

Hand luggage is standard with meds I think. I think the first time I flew I took the box but the last few times i haven’t bothered. They see hundreds of these things everyday. They’re not interested.

MoneyJo · 19/04/2026 16:07

I think it's too cold in the hold so definitely hand luggage.

ShrankLastWinter · 19/04/2026 19:19

Hand luggage. Security not interested. Take prescription or picture of it if you want.

I’ve enjoyed holidays much more for not being so hungry all the time and able just to enjoy some really good food without wanting more. I have much more enjoyment for not feeling ruled by food.

Take the pen and needles, not a syringe.

SilenceInside · 19/04/2026 23:10

I’m guessing that the OP means the injection pen when she says “syringe”.

Guess away, I prefer to know. Lots of people use syringes for WLI so it’s hardly an out there idea that it is what OP might mean.

SilenceInside · 20/04/2026 08:58

I'm sure that the OP will clarify if necessary, @measuringtaep

I did expect that to happen, yes. I’m not sure why you got involved there.
