What did you buy when you reached goalweight? What will you be buying?

Having just reached goal weight (I've lost a whopping 4.8st) I want to have look at my wardrobe. I've obviously had to buy bits and pieces as I've gone along but I've been big for so long now I have no idea what's in fashion or what suits me.

Just wondering what other people have treated themselves to upon reaching their goal / what people will be wearing when they get there. Is there anything you hanker after but couldn't wear when larger?

I'm short so lots seem to be out immediately (maxi dresses, baggy jeans and trousers?) but I'm still dressing in my "fat uniform" - Leggings, long line vest and a jumper / top over? Albeit leggings are now a S / 12 and not an XL /18.

Purposely didn't put this in S&B as I wanted the thoughts of people who may not yet be totally used to being thinner.

Jeans, jeans and more jeans.

I look good in jeans again.

I even bought white ones.

HeidiLite · 03/04/2026 09:05

Sports clothes. Crop top built in bra vests and tiny shorts. I could never wear bra tops even when slim, as I had heavy massive boobs that required industrial scaffolding. I have so many sports clothes now I can go to gym twice per day (and I occasionally do) and not run out of outfits for weeks. Might have gone a little overboard.. 😂

Bikinis! I can buy high street bikinis and not special horrendeously expensive full boob ranges.

Clothes are tricky though, as also my shape has totally changed. The styles I liked before no longer work for me and I don't know yet what does. It takes some time to get used to not looking for clothes that are more flattering on bigger bodies.

I haven't worn jeans since skinny jeans were actually in fashion 😂

I’m still the same shape just smaller. So I’m still looking at the same styles but less obsessed about whether they are flattering. Before, when choosing a dress I would totally obsess over which made me look the slimmest not which was the nicest. Now I can just choose what I like and actually bare to look in a mirror. Sorry that’s not very helpful. I think it depends on your new shape. I’m very hourglass. Even more so now as my middle has shrunk more, so I avoid anything loose, boxy, baggy or shapeless. Otherwise it just hangs off my boobs down to my hips and makes me look far larger than I am. I need things that are fitted. It’s working out what’s best for your new shape. There’s loads of info online that can help you with this.

dogsandbudgey · 03/04/2026 09:34

I absolutely love this for you!!! I am currently trying hard to lose weight after years of failing and then putting more on. Just yesterday I trailed out all my “skinny” clothes that I didn’t want to part with as I wanted to get into them again. So all my nice coloured cropped jeans nice little cute tops with cardigans will hopefully be within reach for the summer. I couldn’t spend another summer hiding in my big clothes while all my friends looked amazing!!

go get yourself some nice slim fit jeans in a few colours then some nice tops that you can mix and match.

Woo383040 · 03/04/2026 09:36

Also I’ve been enjoying new clothes so much I’ve gone a bit bonkers. It’s my new dopamine hit. I need to get a grip. Also I don’t know if anyone else has had this, but I thought I was pretty much done weight loss wise last summer, and though I haven’t lost much more since then I seem to have shrunk far more than the last few pounds justify. That’s been so weird and unexpected.

HeidiLite · 03/04/2026 09:54

@Woo383040 yes same! It's the paper towel effect, the less you have to lose, the bigger difference it makes. When I had just a couple of kg left to lose, I bought a ton of clothes, assuming it will not make much of a difference. A full size down..

Didimum · 03/04/2026 09:58

Of course you can wear maxi dresses and baggy jeans!

PearlsTeapot · 03/04/2026 12:40

I’m nowhere near goal but after losing 7 stone had to update my wardrobe. I’ve gone a bit crazy on vinted! I might need to delete it for a while!

I’m most excited about jeans. I’m 15 stone now and can finally wear jeans and I’m loving it.

Doyouthinktheyknow · 03/04/2026 12:57

Jeans and jumpers. I love not looking like Humpty Dumpty in jumpers and barrel jeans in particular, I love so much now. More than 4 and a half stone heavier, I would never have worn jeans, I looked awful in them.

northernlight20 · 03/04/2026 13:18

I’ve now lost 8st 9lbs and a few pounds off goal, I have gone a bit crazy buying clothes. Can’t wait for the summer, I’ve bought lots of Jean shorts and nice little tops. Love wearing jeans now, and I feel I look good in anything. I’ve gone from a size 22 to an 8, thankfully not much loose skin but my boobs are non existent now so padded bras for now which I never thought I’d ever wear as I was a ff cup before.

MissBridgetJones · 03/04/2026 14:19

Oh I love this! I’m currently in my size 10 jeans. I haven’t been a size 10 for 30 years. I have lost 3 stone and 1.5 kg from goal.

I thought I’d be more excited about shopping… I just feel a bit meh. The only other thing I have bought is a 3 pack of bras, down a backsize and 2 cup sizes.

Anyone else feel like this? I was a solid 14/16.

Booksandcheese · 03/04/2026 15:10

I actually dont mind wearing baggy/oversized jeans and jumpers now as it doesn't look like I'm trying to hide anything 🤣🤣 I have bought quite a lot of summery jumpsuits off vinted, dont particularly care if they're still fashionable but I like how I look in them now.

madcatters · 03/04/2026 17:25

Colour. Everything used to be black or bald based with a little colour. Now I’m wearing all the colours

Doggymummar · 03/04/2026 17:29

I was a 22 and now an 8-10 new bras were first, then spanx to get a good foundation then whatever the fuck I like !

Totally agree. I'm short 5ft 1" and I've bought a maxi dress, 1st time ever and if I say so myself I look bloody good in it and it feels lovely.

Honestly OP, go for it. I've also bought a couple of jumpsuits, I've always wanted one but being short and extremely dumpy never dared before now. I've lost nearly 3 and a half stone by the way and it's made so much difference. I'm buying fitted clothes now and done away with all my leggings and tunic tops. Only leggings I wear now are for the gym.

HeidiLite · 03/04/2026 18:37

baggy and oversize is a totally different ballgame when slim. Now the clothes actually look oversize, on a slim person. Before anything loose just made me look even bigger than I was.

GoldenCupsatHarvestTime · 03/04/2026 19:00

I’ve bought a whole new wardrobe mostly on Vinted. New jeans were a wonder - the M&S Eva bout wow I look like Rachel from Friends in them

GoldenCupsatHarvestTime · 03/04/2026 19:06

Bootcut even…

I have them too and I’m obsessed with them. Still can’t believe I can wear jeans!

Crunchymum · 03/04/2026 20:13

Thanks everyone. So lovely to hear about jeans and bikinis and colour.

I guess you can get petite maxi dresses? For shorter women. I've never looked as I've never considered myself petite!!

Yes you can get maxi dresses in petite. I got a Sosander one from Next. I'll try and attach a photo.

I've gone a bit mad on Vinted. It's a good job I didn't have to buy brand new. I've bought fashionable jumpsuits and fitted dresses, which I'd never have worn before losing over 50lbs.

AmazinGrice · 03/04/2026 21:01

I too have been spending big time on Vinted.

I've also rewarded myself with Botox and a bit of filler to improve the saggy skin.
