Weight loss jabs, trying to choose

Cowsontheloose · 07/03/2026 20:09

Hi. Im wanting to start the weight loss jabs. Ive looked into it and i think wegovy as its cheaper and it doesn't affect the pill as much as mounjaro.
Will i regret this choice?
I have a lot to lose, i weigh about 19st at 5ft5 so some ways to go.
Just after experiences please.

I think as the cost difference is so significant now , if I was starting again I would try Ozempic first and then only swap if side effects were too bad or if it wasn’t effective enough .

Bluehels · 07/03/2026 20:12

I started MJ before the price hikes so i went for the most effect drug. But if i was starting now i would give Wegovy a try first. You can always switch to MJ if you don't find Wegovy effective.

Hollanov · 07/03/2026 20:13

I took MJ in 2024 with great results, then I had another baby, started up again in 2025 but it didn’t work for me at all and had horrible side effects. In hindsight I think I was probably too newly postpartum.

I took my first dose of Wegovy last night. Have had a really good first day today. Not quite as strong an effect as MJ had the first time, but definitely noticeable suppression and food noise has massively reduced.

I couldn’t justify the price of MJ without giving Wegovy a go.

Cowsontheloose · 07/03/2026 20:14

Thanks. This was my main concern. Ive read it can lose 20% body weight on wegovy and 22% on mounjaro. With my body weight as it is now, 20% would be fab

I made the switch from mounjaro to wegovy last year when the price of mounjaro went up. I ended up putting 20lb on whilst on it and my appetite trebled! I’m now back on mounjaro and just swallowing the prices as wegovy was a complete waste of time and money.

Can you feel it working straight away?

I'm on Mounjaro, but I started in 2024 when it was cheaper than Wegovy, so it was a no brainer then to go with Mounjaro. Now, if I was starting as a new patient, I think I would try Wegovy first to see how I got on and if it worked for me.

Hollanov · 07/03/2026 20:20

Cowsontheloose · 07/03/2026 20:15

Can you feel it working straight away?

I took it right before bed, and for the first time in months, I woke up and had a healthy balanced breakfast without even thinking about it, rather than stuffing my face with whatever chocolate I could find. So yes, for me it is working straight away, but that’s not the case for everyone. The starting doses are really just meant to get you used to any side effects - many people don’t feel the positive effects until they have gone up to higher doses.

I wouldn’t get hung up on those stats, I’ve lost 44% of my body weight since starting MJ 50 weeks ago in March last year. I still have 2 stone to go to get to a healthy BMI but am confident I’ll get there. When you have a lot to loose, personally I’d go for the option proven as more effective if there’s anyway you can afford it.

MJqueen · 07/03/2026 20:22

I have lost 44% of my body weight on mounjaro, starting in early 2024 at a similar weight to you. I didn’t use wegovy and can understand why you’d try that first but TBH I don’t know anyone who has been quite as successful on it compared to MJ.

I do think it depends whether you have underlying conditions - I do, and it’s resolved all sorts of things for me hormonally.

Whatever you choose, good luck!

PearlsTeapot · 07/03/2026 20:26

I’m on mj and have no regrets, because it helps me with more than just the weight, it’s reduced my inflammation which was massive due to severe lipoedema. Wegovy doesn’t do that, which is why I haven’t swapped despite the price rises.

Just go for it, you can always switch to mounjaro later if wegovy isn’t effective for you.

Cowsontheloose · 07/03/2026 20:39

Thanks. Im gonna start with wegovy i think. Like you all.say, i can switch if its not working.

Next question. Where to buy? Does anyone use bolt?

Fourwinds · 07/03/2026 21:02

Look at all the celebrities (Oprah, the Osbournes, Kathy Bates, Macy Gray, etc) who all lost weight on Ozempic (Wegovy). The people who found it ineffective are usually the same people who tried Mounjaro first and it's like comparing apples with oranges.

There is also now a much higher dose of Wegovy and a pill format on the way in the UK. It is most definitely worth trying first as it's cheaper, particularly as from April you will only be able to get four doses from Mounjaro.

You need to look for the "wegovy price comparison" website for the cheapest prescriber and swap every month to use new patient discounts. You do not need to be loyal to any pharmacy

Definitely not Bolt it's twice the price! 😮

SilenceInside · 07/03/2026 21:06

@Cowsontheloose have a look at https://igovy.co.uk for a list of GPhC registered online pharmacies, for a price comparison. I haven't used Bolt, not heard anything negative about them, but there are cheaper deals available.

Wow. Thanks for the advice, if only I had thought of that

No one needs that kind of shitty comment @sagittarius1queen did it make you feel better to attack someone else?

SparklyTwinkleGlitter · 07/03/2026 21:10

Even with Wegovy, it’s not a quick or cheap fix!

You also need to factor in that you probably need to continue using the jabs for at least a year after reaching your goal weight to allow your body to get used to the new you and better eating habits, otherwise you risk piling all the weight straight back on again.

I’ve been using MJ for 6 months and gave lost 3 stones so far with another 2 to go. My GP provides my prescriptions but I pay for the jabs myself. My GP was the one who advised that you need to factor in staying on WLI for up to 2 years or longer after reaching your goal weight and this seems to be backed up by lots of evidence online too.

DareDevil223 · 07/03/2026 21:12

I'm on MJ now for maintenance but I've lost 9 and a half stone on WLI in total and the majority of that was on Wegovy and I didn't go higher than 1.7mg. I found it hugely effective.

I only switched to MJ because at the time they wouldn't prescribe Wegovy past two years or for maintenance so I switched when I got within a couple of stone of my target. I'd have happily stayed on it otherwise.

I lost 27% of my body weight on MJ. Only stopped because my BMI got low (20) otherwise I imagine the weight loss would’ve continued tbh. I was up to 10mg and it goes up to 15mg.

Fishingboatbobbingnight · 07/03/2026 21:47

They are not the same. Wegovy mimics GLP-1 hormone

  • Mounjaro: mimics two hormones (GLP-1 + GIP)

Because MJ activates two hormone pathways, it controls appetite and blood sugar more strongly.

If your weight gain is due to insulin resistance caused by yoyo dieting then Mounjaro is more effective as it blood sugar control is more efficient.
Latest trials give average weight loss on Wegovy at 14-15% of starting weight and 20-22 % for MJ.
so in real terms you will be 16 st on Wegovy and 14 on MJ . Although those figures are conservative and I was the same weight as you when I started in March 24 and 9st 7 since Jan 25. So I’ve lost 9st 5 and maintain on 5mg
