How are you tackling Christmas?

I’m now a whisper away from a 3 stone loss but I’m on 7.5mg and at the moment seem to have this low grade nausea if I even look at a mince pie. It’s not always been this way, just this last month.

I’m cooking the dinner on Christmas Day and I really want to enjoy it (even if it’s a much reduced amount) so as my usual jab day is Thursday (Christmas day), I’m going to delay taking it, probably until the 28th, once family leaves. It’s not that I really want to eat, more that I don’t want to sit at the table, feeling yuck! Hoping a few days off will help a bit!

Are you continuing as normal or planning to take any time off?

Hi. No I'm not taking time off but I'll move my injection day as currently I'll be super suppressed /potential nausea Christmas and Boxing Day. Just gone to 10mg after 4 months on 7mg and it has hit me hard.

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 12/12/2025 03:09

i shall be carrying on as normal.

Jab day is Wednesday so last year I simply left it till the next morning but I shall stick with Weds evening this year after I get back from our family Christmas Eve dinner. I’m in maintenance now so on a lower dose than before.

Overtheatlantic · 12/12/2025 03:20

I will carry on as usual with my jab day being on Boxing Day. I’m still recovering from a holiday three weeks ago and want to stay on track.

3flyingducksarrive · 12/12/2025 03:26

My day to inject is Wednesday so I will hold off until Boxing day.

Schoolregret · 12/12/2025 05:45

I'm taking a week of. I'm on 7.5mg and inject on Sunday night. The fatigue is why I'm not injecting for a week, I dont want to be in bed at 7pm over Christmas. Couldn't care less about the food.

MummyInTheNecropolis · 12/12/2025 06:01

I only inject every 10-12 days now anyway to save money and make my pens last longer (I know this is against the guidelines but it’s working for me) and I’m only 1lb from target. Christmas Day will be day 10 for me so I’m just going to leave it until day 12 and inject then.

HappyWineDay · 12/12/2025 07:11

I get mild nausea for a day or two but I’ll be carrying on as normal. I inject on a Friday.

Summerunlover · 12/12/2025 07:14

Just carrying on as normal.

SilenceInside · 12/12/2025 07:43

I’ll be carrying on as usual. I don’t have any side effects whatsoever now, so I feel totally normal (better than normal) whilst taking Mounjaro. It just means I eat less. I will be injecting on Boxing Day.

daffodilandtulip · 12/12/2025 07:46

Last year I was in the midst of early weight loss, this year I'm just maintaining. I took the view that if I stopped every time there was a special occasion, I'd get fat again. This doesn't mean I didn't enjoy treats, but not the usual "eat everything in sight because it's Christmas". I didn't lose for two weeks so I obviously ate a lot more, but I was happy with no gain. (The same has worked for holidays, birthdays etc.)

threeeggsontoast · 12/12/2025 07:52

Yes, agree with all of this. I don’t see the point in stopping but I am delaying a few days just so no one thinks I’m a moany guts, feeling sick and yuck. Incredible how much has changed in a year. This time last year, I’d already gained 4lbs before Christmas due to Christmas lunches etc. This time I’m still steadily losing.

yeesh · 12/12/2025 07:53

I’ll be jabbing on Christmas Day as it’s my usual day. I don’t get side effects and I enjoy what I eat.

Daisywhatsyouranswer · 12/12/2025 08:14

Last year, when in the weight loss phase I just continued as normal. On 10mg, Enjoyed Christmas, just ate reasonable or small portions, drank a few glasses of bubbles etc, by passed a few things, like I had scrambled eggs and smoked salmon for breakfast, avoided the croissants as just didn’t fancy them, had Xmas dinner, it’s just a roast meal after all, avoided the potatoes as quite fatty, think I avoided dessert as I didn’t really fancy it, but may have had a small portion, Lost weight as usual over the week.

this year I’m in maintenance, so on a 5mg dose, and again will continue as normal and will attempt to do the same as last year, enjoy what I fancy, eat small or healthy portions, and I shouldn’t gain any weight, it’s jist a day after all and no reason I shouldn’t be able to enjoy everything, the only difference is really I, in control, and I didn’t over indulge.

Incognitoburrito88 · 12/12/2025 08:17

I’m not sure - I’m in maintenance so slightly different for me. I’m currently jabbing 2.5mg every 14 days. Due to inject on Sunday and then not again until the 28th… I’m toying with jabbing on the 21st as well just to give me a little extra boost over the Xmas period. My weight loss all feels so fragile at the moment - like I can’t believe I get to keep this lovely body I now have (stretch marks and all!). I get quite a bit of food noise and some bingey feelings on days 8-14 post 2.5mg and I wonder about my ability to manage these with the extra pressures of Christmas. I think I’ll see where I am weight wise on the 21st and then decide. I am expecting a bit of Christmas gain but I don’t want it to be ridiculous.

Yellowsubmarine55 · 12/12/2025 09:03

I haven't eaten most of what Christmas dinner comprises of in 9 months so I will probably be delaying it. Nearly 5 stone down and not planning on overindulgence at all. I don't drink anyway and won't buy all the snacks it's just the roast potatoes, sausage and stuffing I'm nervous for.

My DM is diabetic so in solidarity with her we don't have many sweets or puddings around so a fruit salad for afters is always available.

HappyWineDay · 12/12/2025 09:14

" I get quite a bit of food noise and some bingey feelings on days 8-14 post 2.5mg"
@Incognitoburrito88 have you thought about trying 1.25mg once a week instead? This might keep your blood level of mj at a more even level rather than a big peak which tapers right down.

TheChosenTwo · 12/12/2025 10:48

I’ll just be carrying on as normal, my injection day has changed since I came back from holiday so will do it on Tuesday like I have done for the past few weeks. Suppression will probably be strongest on Christmas Day itself but I’ll be able to eat some dinner and no one will notice what’s on my plate anyway.
Last year I did the same, just had a smaller Christmas dinner and no pudding.
But my reasons for being on MJ were a long term health goal, i don’t make special dispensations for anything. If I fancy something that’s sugary and more of a treat from time to time i’ll have it as part of an overall balanced lifestyle. I don’t see the point of spending a lot of money every month to not stick with it.
Saying that I’ve not suffered bad side effects and have been able to live my life completely normally (just with less food!) from the beginning. If it made me feel poorly I’d maybe feel differently.

BuoyedWithOptimisticIgnorance · 12/12/2025 10:57

Jab day is Saturday so I will stick with that. There's loads of food around at the moment that I'm not interested in (a Christmas miracle!) and if all I eat is the meat and steamed veg I think it'll be fine.

PurpleCoo · 12/12/2025 15:32

I'm just carrying on as normal, and will take my injection on Boxing Day.

For me, I don't think it would helpful to have the mindset of days/week off. Throughout this whole journey it's been about not taking such a high dose I get side effects and still enjoy my food, but don't over eat/eat unhealthy food (well only small amounts of carefully chosen treats), and I want to keep that up over Christmas. I want to learn to navigate holidays and festivities with just the odd treat and keeping things in moderation.

My tastes have changed and I'm not craving things I usually would at Christmas, and that's ok, no one is going to force me to eat anything I don't want to. I really don't feel the urge to buy any mince pies, but I had one at a Christmas market, and at a team gathering, and it won't bother me if I don't have another one this year. I will cook a proper Christmas dinner, but will be satisfied with a just couple of roast potatoes and just the one pig in blanket, and I will make a lighter pudding, such as a trifle. I will also stick to my low fat breakfast instead of the usual Christmas Day bacon sarnies. I am also not going to fill the house with food, that you end up trying to eat before it goes to waste.

Ponderingwindow · 12/12/2025 15:36

I’m in the US and just made it through Thanksgiving. I delayed my shot by a couple of days so that I could actually enjoy the day. I was due to have my peak low appetite day on the day I spent cooking a huge feast.

it wasn’t a hugely successful week in terms of progress, but I still lost a little and didn’t feel deprived at all.

WeAllHaveWings · 12/12/2025 16:18

I will be doing the same as last year, but by then I was 6 months into Mounjaro so fairly stable on it if I didn't overdo. Injected as usual, had smaller portions and enjoyed plenty of meat/protein, veg, and a couple of carbs. A glass of wine and small dessert and I didn't feel deprived at all. A Baileys later in the evening.

Didn't drink much more as I usually drink vodka and pepsi max but cola just tastes odd now and I don't enjoy it.

The bigger watch out will be the snacking habit creeping back in over the week or so. It was surprising how quickly the food noise came back when out of a routine and took most of January to get back on track (decided to try without a dose increase, and once I'd got back into routines over 2-3 weeks in Jan it was ok).

IsThisLifeNow · 12/12/2025 16:37

No time off, but I am managing my side effects really well at the moment so I am going to have the food I want, but that will be very different to what I used to want. I am currently on 12.5mg, 20 months in and 70kg lighter, it's been a lifesaver for me and I feel so much better. I was very overweight though so still have a good few more to lose before I'm in healthy BMI.

I am making a list of the 'treat' food I want to eat so I can prioritise it, instead of eating any old rubbish, and only having it once, so like a fancy bacon I like, having a good bacon sandwich, but once I've had it, that'll be the itch scratched.

I do loath to use the term treat food, but I don't know how else to frame it. Christmas is a special time of year and its nice to have nice food. I'd rather eat 1 of my fancy bacon sandwiches than 4 of regular supermarket bacon though, and rather go searching for aspecificdessert and have 1 bit, but buying 5 different ones and eating them all.

can I ask how you do a half dose please?

calkel · 12/12/2025 17:33

Carrying on as normal for me but I’m only on 2.5mg and can eat plenty of if I wanted to. I’m happy not to want to, but I will also be happy to have a wee but more than usual.

I must say though if you are due to jab in Christmas Day it’s unlikely to make much difference not doing it. I have forgotten to do mine for a couple of days before and it’s not affected me at all. You will still have plenty in your system - I think you would need to skip the week before to have any notable difference on Christmas Day.

putthehamsterbackinitscage · 12/12/2025 18:47

@morningtrain you set the pen up by counting the clicks as you turn the button.

after priming, turn it very slowly, you will feel or hear each click. Half a dose is 30 clicks. You won’t get the number 1 in the window!

you then administer as normal.
