How are you tackling Christmas?

I’m now a whisper away from a 3 stone loss but I’m on 7.5mg and at the moment seem to have this low grade nausea if I even look at a mince pie. It’s not always been this way, just this last month.

I’m cooking the dinner on Christmas Day and I really want to enjoy it (even if it’s a much reduced amount) so as my usual jab day is Thursday (Christmas day), I’m going to delay taking it, probably until the 28th, once family leaves. It’s not that I really want to eat, more that I don’t want to sit at the table, feeling yuck! Hoping a few days off will help a bit!

Are you continuing as normal or planning to take any time off?

I said this on another thread (can't remember which one) I'm actually looking forward to Christmas this year and not having all the food noise. So I'll be jabbing as normal and just stick to my normal meals that I've been eating since I started on the jabs. I'll still have Christmas dinner but it won't be as big as in the past and I won't bother with any desserts or sweet treats because I'm just not interested anymore. It'll be amazing to not put weight on over the Christmas period. Bring it on 😀.

" I get quite a bit of food noise and some bingey feelings on days 8-14 post 2.5mg"
@Incognitoburrito88 have you thought about trying 1.25mg once a week instead? This might keep your blood level of mj at a more even level rather than a big peak which tapers right down.

Yes - I have thought about this. Might give it a go. I’ve only just come down to 2.5mg from 3.75mg and I think I like the challenge of the second week where i know it’s me making the good choices a bit more than the Mounjaro. So far I’ve been able to maintain during the second week but once Xmas is out the way I will definitely consider 1.25mg a week. My aim is to stop altogether at some point but I’d like to have been at goal for a year before that I think.

" I took the view that if I stopped every time there was a special occasion, I'd get fat again."

This for me too! I'll be jabbing as normal. But I don't have side effects, so if you want to feel less sick, I guess I understand. But then I think you should go down a dose if you feel so rotten anyway.

Yep, I’m considering going down a dose but not yet sure. I’ve been on 7.5mg for 4 months (after 5mg stopped working) and it’s only been the last month that I’ve really struggled with nausea. It’s not a constant sick feeling but when I look at food, I feel ‘yuck’. As a consequence I have to be really proactive in making sure I’m getting enough calories. Just concentrating on eating good protein and veg.

I’ll finish this month’s 7.5mg and if it’s no better, drop back down to 5.

I will do the same as I did last year. Carry on as normal.
I was on 5mg last Christmas. I was able to eat a reasonable size lunch but was very careful with fat. I
I'm on 12.5mg now. I can actually eat more now but am still careful with fat. I probably won't bother to count my calories for a couple of days for Christmas day and boxing day then will get back on it.
I do have a few treats in and I will enjoy those if I want them.

NikkiPotnick · 13/12/2025 19:43

Usually jab on Sunday evenings, so Thursday Christmas works quite well for me. I plan to just eat smaller portions of things I like, which is what I've been doing throughout.

SexyFrenchDepression · 13/12/2025 22:01

I am due to jab xmas day morning but I have plans boxing day also so I will wait until boxing day morning to jab as will be fine that day. 2nd jab of 3.75mg for me thurs just gone and side effects have been minimal with regards to nausea, by day 6/7 I definitely enjoy eating more so hopefully it'll work out well. I would be happy if I stayed the same that week really.

Yeah I feel the same, the thought of not pigging out on loads of food for a whole week (or two) makes me much more excited about the whole thing. I am looking forward to not putting on half a stone hopefully!

Springbaby2023 · 13/12/2025 22:06

I only started in November but thinking of moving my dose forward from Monday to Saturday so that I’m hungrier by Thursday. Also thinking about a couple of weeks at 2.5mg instead of 5. In some ways it seems like a waste but also I love Christmas, no/one other than DP yet knows I’m on it, and we are away for a few days after Christmas with other people. I don’t want the extreme fatigue and don’t want full on suppression. I figure I’m early enough into my journey that a couple of weeks back at 2.5mg won’t make much of a difference.

petermaddog · 14/12/2025 13:20

nausea>>flat coca cola not diet it does nothing
helps doent need alot sips until the belly is happier

MCR24 · 14/12/2025 13:26

I'll continue as normal no reason not to, my jab day is a Saturday. I definitely wouldn't miss a weeks medication because of a holiday or occasion though. In the past I've just moved the day to Friday or Sunday if necessary.

DottyMcDiet · 14/12/2025 13:48

I came on to start a thread about this so delighted to see it already being discussed. 🎄

I’ve been on MJ since May so this is my first Christmas on it.

I was planning on missing a week but have just injected to day and realised that if I miss next Sunday’s then this would be my last jab before Christmas!

I rally want to be able to enjoy my food and wine but obviously don’t want to sabotage all my good work.

I’m looking for a middle ground or compromise.

eleanorwish · 14/12/2025 14:03

I’m currently on 12.5, I need to go up a dose, but I’m going to wait until after Christmas. My normal jab day is Friday evening, so that fits in nicely. I’m not going to calorie count, just eat the same food as everyone else but in smaller amounts

letshavetea · 14/12/2025 14:35

This is a good thread to have. It’s my second MJ Christmas (started October 2024). Last year I took 3.75 mg on 22/12 as I was taking it slowly getting up to 5mg due to nausea. This year I’ve just got into 10mg and suppression is strong. I’ve been gradually moving my jab day so it’s now on Friday evening so that I can have my least suppressed days on Christmas Day and Boxing Day. Then I’ll jab on Boxing Day evening. I’ve never missed a dose altogether, but do sometimes anticipate an event (as I’m doing here for Christmas) by moving the jab day.

Regarding food, I’m at the point where I don’t fancy anything fatty, sweet or carby. I’ve even gone off spicy food, which I used to love.

The things I enjoy are fish and chicken and the occasional steak, smoked salmon and prawns, vegetables, fruit and some nice cheese. I’ll buy all the sweet stuff and snacks for my family, but won’t be tempted myself. For breakfast I’ll stick to Greek yogurt and fruit and buy all the pastries for the family. Alcohol is less easy to resist though, but as my family aren’t bothered that will help!

Sloelydoesit · 14/12/2025 18:41

I have just ordered a 10mg pen after being on 7.5 since June and I'm due to move up on 21st. However I think I'll stay on 7.5mg (I still have a full pen of that) for another month. Not because I want to pig out but in case I get any side effects from the higher dose. As I'm hosting it would be a bit of a disaster!
I'm not cooking a traditional Christmas dinner this year so it will be easier to stick to the usual small portions. Only doing 3 things so less likely to end up with a plate full!

Fatmumslim01 · 14/12/2025 18:54

I'm actually so excited about Christmas and experiencing food like a normal person.

Im still looking forward to the nice food but just a much smaller portion!

Ketra · 14/12/2025 19:14

My normal jab day is a Thursday but Xmas Eve is also a big thing in my family so instead I am going to take half my dose on the Wednesday and the other half on the Saturday to minimise the chance of side effects.

I don't do big Xmas dinners anyway so volume of food isn't going to be an issue for me, but I won't be calorie counting while I am with family (Weds eve until Friday eve), but that's due to me trying to be a normal person listening to my own hunger signals rather than needing to weigh everything - my family know I am losing weight (although only a few know about the jabs) so wouldn't question it if I did track calories.

Bhbhhnhnvvghk · 14/12/2025 19:33

I don’t know but I’m worried!

I have been using the jabs since January and had steady weight loss of 85lb.

we are going away for the week so there will be lots of time to indulge.

my last big challenge was a week on holiday in the summer, and I think I managed a pretty good mix of treats and just having smaller portions, and only put on 2.5lb

im on 12.5 mg but have a massively sweet tooth that I haven’t really got much better with (although I obviously do eat much smaller amounts)

I will jab as normal and try to sample things in small portions so I don’t feel I have missed out- but limit the damage.

my husband is very good at finishing things off for me when I’m stressing about ‘food waste’

other than that I aim to get my steps in every day and tell myself that it’s only a week and I’ll be straight back on it - just like after my holiday.

I also have one night out to go to , I’ll drink my drinks slowly and aim for only a couple!

Redlightbulb · 19/12/2025 00:02

I am staying on.
Stayed on last year. Still have 2 stone to go so really don't want a big gain & my jab day is Sunday so should still be able to eat a decent sized meal on the Thursday & have a few treats without over indulging too much.

DottyMcDiet · 20/12/2025 19:59

I’ve decided to still jab on my usual day as mine is Sunday as well, but my compromise is that I’ll have a smaller dose, 5mg instead of 6.5mg.

I don’t want to lose weight over Christmas but really don’t want a large gain.
