Anyone found they can't get a 5th dose from their MJ pen yet

DH and I both on it. He's in charge of all pen faffing, and was on it before me, so I've never actually bothered learning how to do it. He reckons he's not getting an extra dose from either pen.

I know EL said this was coming. Are others finding they can get their 5th dose still, or has the tide now turned?

Why can’t he get it? You use a syringe, obvs bought from a pharmacy, not Amazon so you know it’s for humans, and extract it?

Is he trying to get it by forcing the pen past the max number of clicks, or is he using a syringe?

As said above you use a proper medical grade syringe.

I think that the Op is referring to the fact that the manufacturers of MJ have said that they are going to stop the ability to get a 5th dose from the pens. Not sure how.

So, from Reddit they are changing the size of the plunger when they reduce the amount in the pen. It’s apparently to comply with FDA approval. I think Reddit would be ablaze if the smaller quantity pens were in circulation already, but a quick scan and I can’t see much.

I did the same @FurForksSake- couldn't see anything either. But he reckons there's no liquid left. Oh well, a mystery!

I had a new pen arrive this week. I always check them when they arrive to make sure they’re undamaged and the right dose. When I looked at it, it seemed different to my previous ones. I have another older unopened pen, so I will do a direct comparison when I get a chance. I’ll post on here if there’s a difference.

I will be most annoyed not to have an additional dose available any more.

It will be happening, just hopefully not quite yet. I’ve got three full ones in the fridge which I’m going to use to taper and space so I’m hoping I won’t notice too much by the time I need new pens as I’ll be counting clicks.

I've just started and I was under the impression this already happened

But I heard they were going to minimise the extra liquid, so you can't get any out

It's weird that they have so much extra in the first place

The clear part of the pen will be significantly shorter, as per @FurForksSake ‘s post. It will be very obvious compared to the current design, by about 1cm.
@BonusSchmonus , if you have the new design, the plunger will be right at the bottom of the pen, very obvious compared to normal. Can you post a photo?

Looking closer at that drawing, that’s different to the other diagram I’ve seen. The previous one was an Ely Lilly drawing showing a shorter clear barrel section. That drawing posted here shows a spacer between the driving rod and the plunger.
Goodness knows what the actual reduced volume pens will finally look like but I’ve never seen one yet.

Had a new pen delivered today - checked it and my others and all look the same.

Have checked my new pen, it is exactly the same as my previous pens, thankfully. I guess I was just being a bit overly paranoid when I had a quick look at it on the delivery day!

I am in Australia and I left my last dose in England.

So after four doses he says the plunger is right at the bottom? That would be the case for wegovy but not mounjaro. Are you buying from a registered pharmacy?

It was inevitable really wasn't it? Getting five weeks instead of four that we'd paid for. Of course there going to find a way to stop us getting a 'golden dose'.

It's costing them money after all. In this life you get nowt for free?

Do you use a drawing up needle, then switch to a Sub cut needle for the injection?

They haven't yet though, and there will be a lot of existing stock to get through before any updated pens get through to the end user. It does seem quite impressively wasteful that they originally created a pen with so much spare medication remaining.

The actual drug will be cheap as chips to manufacture, so the extra isn’t really costing them other than in lost sales.

@Periperi2025 Not sure, I linked to the ones we use upthread so you may be able to tell from there? We just went with those cos DH saw them recommended on I think Reddit, and many legitimate pharmacy providers seemed to offer them.

@HangryBrickShark I've been expecting this tbh. Will probably kick me into a wegovy switch once it happens.
