Anyone found they can't get a 5th dose from their MJ pen yet

DH and I both on it. He's in charge of all pen faffing, and was on it before me, so I've never actually bothered learning how to do it. He reckons he's not getting an extra dose from either pen.

I know EL said this was coming. Are others finding they can get their 5th dose still, or has the tide now turned?

@BonusSchmonus that looks like a normal pen after doing 4 doses, with enough remaining liquid for a dose or a bit more via syringe.

Is your DH perhaps just having issues with extracting the liquid via a syringe? It can be a bit tricky sometimes to withdraw it all.

Well it is though. Because people like myself are getting five weeks from a pen instead of four which over the course of a year is saving people a lot of money and causing the company to lose a lot of money at the same time because people won't order so quickly. I know people again including myself are spreading the pens out by dosing every 9 days, I actually spoke to a health doctor yesterday on the phone who rang me to see how I'd got on with my steroid injection for my back and we got on the subject of me taking mounjaro and she confessed she was also taking the golden dose and spanning out doses by an extra 3 days! It was very short sighted of Eli Lilly not to have foreseen this could happen, but then I don't feel particuarly sorry for them because they are very avericious in their pricing structure.

I do wonder if the reason Wegovy is so much cheaper is because its physically impossible to get a 5th dose out of it due to its design!

That looks about normal to me, it always amazes me when you draw it out that it’s a dose and a bit.

Re the 5th dose. EL have updated the Austrian website with the new design. It's going to be released there first. Regulatory approval will be needed here before they can introduce the new pen - so 4-6 months yet at least. I've seen an estimate that, if you're careful with priming, you might get an extra dose every 2 pens. Personally, I don't prime in the recommended way - I just look for a tiny drop on the needle as I count up the clicks and never had a problem in 18months so I'll just carry on as before. I'm sure most on here will be able to work something out so they're not massively impacted - we're pretty good at sharing ideas 😉

But one of the doses this pen, it did get a bit stuck while priming so maybe lost more than usual there. Since from what @KrankyKumquat has posted, it looks like the new pens aren't out yet so it's likely something we've done.

The last update said there was no timeline for rolling out in the UK yet so I doubt you've got the new pens. But I wouldn't put it past them to be putting slightly less liquid in. Although I haven't noticed a difference with mine - but they were bought a little while ago during pengate.

I think you’ve over primed or mis counted then, as it isn’t that there is less in there yet.

Wow. Thay would mean you’ve used a full extra dose on priming, that’s a huge amount, you’d have to be squirting out loads of liquid, 1,5 ml every time. A quarter of a dose, and it’s right at the fourth dose level, which is very co incidental. I’d say that pen has been used 4 times, but if it’s 3, you still have a fourth dose in there, just exctracr it with a syringe to the 6ml level.

to prime you just click twice, and press. You habe to have used all the clicks as well, which means you must be clicking it round at least 15 times every time you prime?

I think it’s more likely that you and your DH have just misremembered how many doses have come from that pen.

Now you’ve got me confused. You said earlier your OH couldn’t extract the fifth dose because there was no liquid left. You’ve posted a photo of the pen with liquid clearly still there but now you’ve said that’s because you’ve only had 3 doses from this pen. Is this a different pen to that which your OH is unable to get the fifth dose from then? Can you show us a photo of that one?
