I applied through Med Express, I've given them my GP details so all above board. I'm 13.4 stone at 5.6, so BMI 30. So I need to lose 3 stone roughly to get to the healthy weight category. But theres a voice in my head that says, come on, you are 58 and a size 14/16, that's fine, you dont need this.

But I also really want to feel healthier and lighter.

I had my sons graduation earlier this week. I spent ages doing my hair and make up, had bought a lovely new dress. Felt great until I saw the photos. I look absolutely huge.

Because I don't feel I can tell anyone in RL it feels like a really lonely decision.

Should I just get on with it?? It's Wegovy not mounjaro. Ive spent years slowly piling on weight, did keto a few years ago and lost a stone then stayed there for a year or so until a family bereavement got me troughing again.

Yes, I'd say just get on with it. Nothing has changed in your reasoning process to make the decision to start, it's just all a bit real now it's actually here. Remember it's not a one time only decision, you can do one injection, and if you don't like it then you don't have to do another one, and it will be out of your system soon enough.

Thanks. I need someone to tell me to get on with it!!

This was me 2 weeks ago. I took the plunge and it’s been fine. Suppressed appetite but no side effects. I feel a bit hopeful for the first time in years. Best of luck!

idrinkandiknowthings · 18/07/2025 13:19

I'm also 58, OP, and had been steadily gaining weight since I gave birth 18 years ago. I was pushing 16st at 5'2" so very much in the obese category.

I started taking Mounjaro mid-February this year and have now lost over 3st. I admit that I was scared to take it initially and the pen sat in my fridge for a week before I used it. I'm still overweight but feel so much better (although I did have some sickness and the trots). Go for it, I say x

Mumjaro · 18/07/2025 13:20

Do it! I don’t know about wegovy but MJ starts with a very low dose so if wegovy is the same, don’t be alarmed if you don’t notice anything.

Took me about an hour to do my first jab but I’m in week 4 now and just bang em in no problem. All good!

You can either give it a go, or put it off and keep wondering whether it could help.

Itscoldouthere · 18/07/2025 14:01

Yes do it, I’m 62 and was bursting out of size 16 a year ago, I’m not a 10/12 and feel so much healthier and clothes look so much better on me.
I no longer feel fat and frumpy, I do have some saggy sink but that to be expected, I recommend weight training throughout your journey and take it slow and steady, don’t loose too fast, something I did in the beginning, honestly it’s been so worthwhile, I feel fitter than I have in the last 10 years.

ForLoveNotMoney · 18/07/2025 14:05

I hope this helps OP.

The first picture was September last year. Was horrified when I saw it and I cried because I was so upset. That night I ordered MJ and just like you, it arrived and I sat on it for a few days then bit the bullet.

The second picture in April this year. 7 months later and 3 stone lighter. I am in my 40s and haven’t worn a bikini since I was a teen. Yes I have loose skin, stretch marks and I don’t have the tone I once did but I now have a whole new life.

Take a deep breath and start that journey!

So I've spent all day eating! Toast for breakfast, leftover veggie lasagne for lunch, then dh didnt realise I'd had lunch and made me a pork pie with salad which I ate. I feel absolutely bloated and stuffed. Planning on injecting tonight and actually looking forward to breaking the grip food has on me.

Flumpaphone · 18/07/2025 14:51

Yes, this was me. I had the voice and the fear. But I can honestly say it is one of the best things I have done. I’m 2 stone lighter and exercise is so much easier now I’m not dragging the extra weight around.

I’m on holiday at the moment and doing some diving. It was great zipping myself into a medium wetsuit rather than the people in the shop taking one look at me and handing me an extra large.

Its the small wins that make it so worth it

Aboutmeabouttime · 18/07/2025 15:02

Similar stats to me, started in March and that first jab was Mounjaro plus an unhealthy amount of adrenaline 😂 but now 2st 3lbs down. Stayed on 2.5mg and it’s slow and steady but great!

Aboutmeabouttime · 18/07/2025 15:06

@Radioundermypillowbe wary of taking that first jab having eaten lots/rubbish today… it slows digestion and that might leave you feeling a bit unwell. If I were you I’d think about doing it in the morning…

Radiatorvalves · 18/07/2025 15:08

I’m going on a beach holiday tomorrow and actually looking forward to it. I’ve tried on clothes I like but haven’t been able to get into for years. It feels really good. Go for it OP!

perimenopoppet · 18/07/2025 15:18

I’m the same height as you and started off just a bit heavier at around 14stone in April. As of today I’m 11st 10 and heading off on holiday next week feeling like my old self again. I know I will be back into normal weight range by the time I get to 6 months. It’s the best thing I’ve done for my health and wellness as well as my self esteem in years. Weight aside everything feels better, less puffy and bloated, don’t ache when I get out of bed in the morning, can keep up with the teens, so many little improvements I feel lighter mentally too. It’s killed off the wine witch too which is wonderful for my health.

agree with PP that a lot of people report nasty side effects if they do a final blow out with high carb/fat foods or alcohol right before first jab. I did 24 hours clean eating before just in case! Might be worth that short delay so you don’t have a bad start.

get yourself over to the July starters thread too, there is one for each month and it’s a huge support having people along with you at the same stage. If you can it would really be a good idea to tell one person to trust - just in case so that someone knows in a medical emergency. I’ve only told DH and a handful of friends I know won’t judge.

Good luck - hope this is the start of a great new chapter for you 🙂

Shudacudawuda · 18/07/2025 15:20

I was exactly the same height and weight as you when I started. I'm now just under 10 stone and maintaining.
I'm light on my feet, weight training regularly, (my arms and shoulders look better than I've ever had!), just been on holiday where I wore little skirts, shorts and vests with no chub rub, never felt a hot sweaty mess, felt toned and healthy.
Sleeping better too.
Honestly, its the best thing I've ever done.
I wish you all the best xxx

Ineedanewsofa · 18/07/2025 15:23

This was me last Friday - I’ve done my 2nd dose of MJ this morning and weighed in at 5lb lighter than last Friday. No side effects or regrets so far

oldestmumaintheworld · 18/07/2025 15:24

It's ok to be scared. I was terrified. Scared of the injection, scared of the side effects, scared of everything. I deliberately waited to do the first one on a Friday night before a week's holiday in case I was ill. But it's been great. No pain no discomfort, no side effects. It's been life changing. Be brave

Choux · 18/07/2025 15:28

If you are 58 and a 14/16 with a BMI of 30 then you do need this. I say that as someone who 17 months ago was mid fifties with a BMI of 32.

9 months of WLI later I had lost 50lbs and got to a BMI of 23-24 which I am now maintaining. I put clothes on and think of how good they look. I feel better and I know my health is better. My digital scales tell me my physical age is now the same as my real age. Before my physical age was 8 years older than my real age. I am going to live LONGER because I have done WLI!

I echo this. Let your stomach process all of that first.

Good luck!

I'm only 2 stone down after 5 months, but it's made a huge difference!

Can I ask why you chose Wegovy rather than Mounjaro @Radioundermypillow . Just wondering, no reason.

GenV · 18/07/2025 15:42

I started end Feb, 5ft 4, 12 stone 2, I am 58 and felt like a blob 3 stone down, fairly easy ride, (some stomach upset and nausea) feel great now, I'm keeping going, go for it, it's not a completely easy ride but a hell of a lot easier than doing it with out, also echoing why wegovy though, mounjaro is better, works on two receptors I believe, and has better results than wegovy.

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 18/07/2025 15:54

To echo other posters, just get on with it! You went through the order process and shelled out the ££ for a reason which hasn’t gone away so why change your mind?!

I’m 58 too😁 I started on mounjaro last summer at a size 22 bmi 46.something. A year on, I have normal blood pressure and a bmi of 22.5. I can walk (or even run!) up the stairs, do a spinning class without collapsing, lift pretty heavy weights, wear size 8 clothes. I haven’t had an asthma crisis in 8 months. I feel strong and light and full of energy.

Don’t settle. Aspire to be the best version of yourself that you can be.

Heart health benefits. Less chance of pancreatic issues.

Do it

MistressRoydon · 18/07/2025 16:36

65 here. Last September BMI 30- now 24.5. Last year on holiday I huffed and puffed with DH having to wait for me to catch up like a toddler. HBA1C prediabetic. This year I can chase the grandchildren, HBA1C 39 so no longer prediabetic and stride out with DH keeping up. Best thing I ever did. Not always a comfortable journey by any means and still require discipline but the end of food noise is such a relief. No regrets other than I wish I had done it earlier so my dream holiday and photos were with me as I am now, not red, sweaty and puffy. Good luck!!!

WeAllHaveWings · 18/07/2025 16:51

Echoing what others have said, wait at least a day to let all that food move through your system as it could cause unpleasant side effects. You want to set yourself up to give yourself the best start you can.

A lot of us felt the same and left it sitting in the fridge for a while before starting. For me, I don't think I would have been as worried if it was a pill or a patch (I didn't think twice before starting my HRT), it was because it was an injection it just felt so much more serious a medication (beyond the fear of self injecting).
