Mounjaro week one and the weight isn't falling off!

PinataHeeHaw · 20/04/2025 10:32

Hello, I started mounjaro 2.5mg on Wednesday this week and by Friday I had lost 5lbs. I weighed myself again this morning and I've only lost 2lb. I did have two sandwiches Friday night and pitta and hummus last night though. Both very late on. I was within 1700 calories for the day though.

I still have thoughts of food running in my head. I'm obsessed with food. It's an addiction!

I've reduced my calories to 1500 from today and I'm going to reduce my carbs. I think the mounjaro has staved some of the hunger I usually feel off, but I thought I wouldn't want to eat and that I'd not even be thinking about food. I could used to lose 12lb in a week when I was younger but I do have pcos now.

I've also been thinking about taking my fifth dose today to make the mounjaro work more.

One other thing. When I see mounjaro on YouTube, people have a pen which they click and then it's automatically injected. With my pen, I have to attach little needles to the end myself and there is a dial with numbers on. Is this normal? Is my mounjaro a counterfeit?

For reference I'm 24 stone and 5'6 with a bmi of about 53.

Your post doesn't really make sense and I wonder if it is real. The medication can take some time to work (for many people 2.5 is a subtherapeutic dose, it's to get your body used to the medication and minimise any initial side effects). So many people dont lose much in the first few weeks. This is longterm medication, not a quick fix. But also, you say you have actually lost 2lb. 1 to 2lb is the optimal loss per week. So that is spot on, why would it be a problem?

I can't understand what you mean about taking a fifth dose when you haven't even taken a second one yet? But no, don't take another dose until a week after your first one.

And yes, if you are using a Kwikpen you do have to put the needle on it and then dial it round 60 clicks to get a dose. If your pen didn't come with the instruction leaflet, which is very clearly laid out, then that is a big problem as your provider will not have been dispensing correctly. Each pen must come with the full instructions. Who is prescribing your MJ? Why did you not get the instructions?

SilenceInside · 20/04/2025 10:47

Where did you get your Mounjaro from? If a UK pharmacy that’s GPhC registered then it’s highly unlikely to be counterfeit.

The videos you’re seeing are likely using the US version of the pen which only has one dose, rather than the UK model that has 4 doses. It’s totally normal that the needles are separate. The dial should only have the number 1 on it though.

Regarding your weight loss… your first dose was Wednesday this week?? So you’ve not even been on it a week so far. You need to relax, be patient and give it a chance to work. It’s not a quick fix. If you’re 24 stone you’re looking at being on Mounjaro for at least a year or more, so it’s a long term process. The 2.5mg dose is a starting dose, it’s not intended to produce weight loss for everyone, although it does for some. It would be totally normal and within the expected results not to lose much weight at all for the first four weeks. So stick to the expected dosing schedule, don’t start injecting extra in your first week.

ClaudiaDark · 20/04/2025 10:48

Have you not done any research into it? Or read any threads here? Because if you had, you'd know that you're on the titration dosage to get your body used to it. It doesn't work immediately. It's when you go up dosages that it starts to take effect. I mean this nicely but it worries me that you're taking medication with no understanding if how it's meant to work. Give it time. Be patient. I wish you well with your weight loss.

Mumof1andacat · 20/04/2025 10:50

Your expectations need a massive rethink. 2.5mg is a start dose to get your body use to the medication. No weight loss is expected on this dose.

Mumof1andacat · 20/04/2025 10:53

Are you receiving coaching alongside your prescription as a matter of interest?

Summerhillsquare · 20/04/2025 11:08

Take a breath OP, it's a marathon not a sprint.

Isobel201 · 20/04/2025 11:20

Its not a magic weightloss drug, I've been on a low starting dose to get used to it, and I've only lost 3 pounds. It helps you by eating less food, but don't get bogged down with low calorie amounts.

BethDuttonYeHaw · 20/04/2025 11:25

It takes time to build up in your system.

2.5 isn’t a therapeutic dose and whilst some experience the effects and lose weight on it others don’t until they move to a higher dose

the weight won’t fall off. It doesn’t make fat disappear. You still have to be in a calorie deficit

this is a marathon not a sprint. You will lose weight. A lot of weight but it’s not overnight.

NippyNinjaCrab · 20/04/2025 11:26

So.... you injected on Wednesday and by Friday you lost 5lbs, you've weighed this morning and lost a further 2lbs?

FlappyFish · 20/04/2025 11:31

Dear lord, did you do no research at all? It doesn’t melt fat off you. You have to put in the work with the MJ as a tool. I have been on MJ over a year. I’ve been at target for six months.

I suggest getting yourself on the April starter thread and actually reading up on it instead of taking a month’s dose in one go.

PinkArt · 20/04/2025 11:32

Gently, calm the fuck down. It sounds like you're working yourself into a state for no reason.
If you've lost 7 pounds since Wednesday, the weight is falling off you. 7 pounds in under a week is a lot. It's not uncommon in the first week but would be something to keep an eye on. 12 pounds in a week would worry me personally and would never be something to aspire to. 1-2 pounds a week is a healthy rate to lose.
You still have thoughts of food? You aren't even a week in yet. Give it time for the medication to work to see what it does to your personal food noise.
You still want to eat? Good! I had a short period when I went up to 5mg when eating anything was a struggle and it was awful. The sweet spot is still enjoying food but not having that desperate craving for it.
Do not fuck with the dosage. You're on week one, why on earth would you be thinking about the fifth dose yet.

DarkForces · 20/04/2025 11:34

Use the medication as it's prescribed, give it time, some weeks you'll lose more than others but 2lb is the top of what you'd want to lose to lose weight safely.

PinataHeeHaw · 20/04/2025 11:34

I haven't lost 7lb. I lost 5lb but must put 3lb on because now I'm only 2lb down.

Are you sure you meant to say the in the past you have lost 12lb a week? If that is true, that would be incredibly dangerous as you would have to starve, and even then it is unlikely. It is not something you should ever be trying to do. I remain sceptical of the post. Is it perhaps satire?

DarkForces · 20/04/2025 11:36

I've lost just under 2 stone since Christmas. It's great but it's not magic. The doses build so don't mess about with them. You really need to take this like any other medication. Follow the instructions as you would anything else.

FortyElephants · 20/04/2025 11:36

2lb in your first week is totally expected loss, and actually better than many. If you are eating 1700 a day, presumably that's the amount you worked out to lose 2lb a week? So I'm not sure why you expected to lose more than that?

doodleschnoodle · 20/04/2025 11:37

You’ve lost half a stone in 5 days? Gently, OP, chill out. You didn’t get to 24 stone in a week, it’s going to take a long time to get it off, even with MJ. Follow the instructions, stay with process, don’t meddle with stuff you don’t understand, be patient

No she weighted 5lb down and then again and is now only 2lb down. 2lb is still good loss obviously.

The weight comes off quicker of morbidly obese people. I ate low calorie soups and homemade meals when I lost that much.

An online pharmacy.

SilenceInside · 20/04/2025 11:40

@PinataHeeHaw can I suggest not weighing daily, just weigh weekly? There will be daily variations for lots of different reasons, it doesn't mean that you've lost 5lbs but then gained 3 back. It's just normal fluctuations, and doesn't mean much.

SilenceInside · 20/04/2025 11:43

@PinataHeeHaw which online pharmacy?

I was 22stone when I started, lots of us here will be a similar starting weight to you. Yes, you can lose weight quickly when your BMI is in that kind of territory, but it still doesn't mean it should be expected or that it is necessarily a good thing.

You know that you will need to be taking Mounjaro for a long time, surely? There is no rush to drop weight immediately, and it isn't healthy or sustainable to do so. You haven't even been on it a week. Try to relax about this and think about the long term.

Inarutinarut · 20/04/2025 11:46

2lb weight loss in less than a week is good. If you lose weight faster you’re more likely to have loose skin.

MrsMariaReynolds · 20/04/2025 11:50

Step away from social media re: Mounjaro. Those people dropping a stone in two weeks are the exception and not the norm. Don't let them get in your head. 1-2lbs a week is perfectly normal (and far more sustainable, imo) You have to be willing to play the long game on this medication.
