Mounjaro week one and the weight isn't falling off!

Hello, I started mounjaro 2.5mg on Wednesday this week and by Friday I had lost 5lbs. I weighed myself again this morning and I've only lost 2lb. I did have two sandwiches Friday night and pitta and hummus last night though. Both very late on. I was within 1700 calories for the day though.

I still have thoughts of food running in my head. I'm obsessed with food. It's an addiction!

I've reduced my calories to 1500 from today and I'm going to reduce my carbs. I think the mounjaro has staved some of the hunger I usually feel off, but I thought I wouldn't want to eat and that I'd not even be thinking about food. I could used to lose 12lb in a week when I was younger but I do have pcos now.

I've also been thinking about taking my fifth dose today to make the mounjaro work more.

One other thing. When I see mounjaro on YouTube, people have a pen which they click and then it's automatically injected. With my pen, I have to attach little needles to the end myself and there is a dial with numbers on. Is this normal? Is my mounjaro a counterfeit?

For reference I'm 24 stone and 5'6 with a bmi of about 53.

Trust the process. You are not supposed to lose weight on that does. It is just to get your body used to it. Any loses and a cheeky surprise. Give it time. I am a greedy bitch and it will work. You will also soon find that you might want some food but literally can't and genuinely don't want to eat large volumes.

I haven't lost 7lb. I lost 5lb but must put 3lb on because now I'm only 2lb down.

Ok, so two pounds then in less than a week. That's a healthy loss.

AmythestBangle · 20/04/2025 12:31

Morbid obesity or not, 12lb lost a week is not in any way desirable. Surely you know that?

PinataHeeHaw · 20/04/2025 14:14

Thank you all. As you can probably tell, my relationship with food/losing weight is absolutely appalling.

i know. I wish it was quick or easy but just trust the process and take it according to the instructions. Keep yourself as safe as you can by going up the doses gradually, listen to your body and remember it's a marathon not a sprint. Good luck

First few weeks is water weight it will fluctuate a lot .

ass PP has said MJ is not magic and is only a tool

im on w6 lost a total of 15 lb which is on average for where I am . If you expect to loose 10lb a week MJ is not the right path as after the first week 1-2 lb a week is the expected (with some up some down)

to loose 12lb in a week you need to be at starvation of around 500 kcal a day which is not healthy at all and will increase your severe side affect risk in the long term

I lost 5lb in total first week and averaged 1-2 lb after that , the first week was water weight not actual weight loss and hence why it will fluctuate

narkyspirit · 20/04/2025 14:48

I have been on MJ for 11 weeks now, 2.5 for 4 doses 5 for 6 doses and last week I have upped to 7.5 from second 5mg pen and will do the same for the last dose from this pen. I am averaging 0.9kg (2.02 lb) a week loss and am comfortable there.
I am 5ft 3 with a start weight of 95.9 kg now I'm at 86 kg so just over 1.5 stone loss

there was a comment with clients last week re weight loss. I'm fasting as well for 16 hours and not counting calories

lunaemma · 20/04/2025 14:51

Weigh daily if you want but use an app, you input your weight daily and it balances out the fluctuations which are natural and will show your loss

Firstly, you lost 5lbs then gained 3lbs back, this is probably due to the carbs you ate, 2 sandwiches and pitta late on friday, and then adding whatever carbs you ate earlier in the day, is a fair bit of carbs. Carbs and salty food causes water retention which shows as weight gain. To resolve this cut the carbs and drink plenty of water 2L a day if you can including hot drinks, it will make a big difference to consistent losses.
Secondly increase your protein intake, snack on protein like cottage cheese, meat snacks, nuts, eggs etc
Thirdly work out your calorie deficit on a TDEE calculator online for an accurate calorie deficit, as it sounds like you are estimating it now and track your food.
Also it's half life is 5 days so by now you will feel hungrier by now but that is normal and will improve a few days after you next inject. Don't inject any earlier with each first pen of each dose as you really risk side effects if you take it earlier than you should. Download shotsy app which is free.
Let your body get used to the medication and you will have a much more easier and pleasant journey.

I didn't lose hardly anything the first 3 weeks or so which I found a bit demoralising, but stuck with it as understood that's the way with some people, 9 months on and I've lost 35lbs at a really steady pace. 0.5-1lb on average a week but it keeps going gradually down as the meds stops me binge eating.
Starting BMI was 35.

Follow the dosage instructions, don't mess about with it. (Other than I often had a smaller dosage than suggested)

I also have found it helpful to weigh myself in kg as I have much less of an association with my weight in kg than stone and lbs.

Thank you all. As you can probably tell, my relationship with food/losing weight is absolutely appalling.

Addressing this needs to be at the top of your list. I’ve spoken to my GP and got a referral for talking therapy, could you do that? No drug is a magic wand, we need to fix the deeper problems.

Some online prescribers offer coaching or other support alongside the prescriptions. You might benefit from one of those.

Please remember WLIs are a tool.

It will help jump start your new health goals for sure, but the most important thing is to use it as a kind of helping hand.

At BMI of 50 + you may find exercise hard. But beginning to do something, especially weights, and increasing G protein intake, will all do wonders for your probably damaged metabolism. Many of us, even with less to lose, have compromised metabolisms - whether through illness, diet, age, stress, lack of exercise.

You are probably impatient, but play the long game! If you try to look after your body and give it what it needs - with the help of WLIs - you will hopefully get some happy results. This all takes time, but also begins on day 1.

Try not to focus on the scales. Obviously you will lose weight a bit faster because of high BMI - but the object of the exercise is to heal your health and body (not to any kind of standard of perfection but just for its own sake). Weight loss that shows on the scale is just one measurement/sign, not the whole story by any means (and this excludes those who lose weight too quickly, messing up their fat to muscle ratio and actually worsening their metabolism).

Good luck OP.

Thanks everyone.

I was so ready to pack it in yesterday and get a pizza for tea, but I didn't, I made basa fillet, new potatoes and salad and it was delicious! I'm feeling motivated. I walked up a hill this morning without having to stop. That's unusual for me. I have a bit of determination today.

@PinataHeeHaw can you clarify what you mean about taking the 5th dose now?
You haven't been injecting daily have you?

unsync · 21/04/2025 13:26

I think you need to do more research into what you should be doing and manage your expectations better.

What are you using to record your eating? I use MyNetDiary and I would recommend it. It has a huge database of foods and if you put in your height and weight, it will calculate how many calories you should be eating and in what proportion. You can also record water intake, your weight when you weigh and your exercise.

You need to get working on your mindset. This is as much psychological as it is food and exercise, especially when you have such a high starting point.

At my heaviest, I was about 23 stone - 146 kg - with a BMI around the 50 mark. When I started MJ, I was 118 kg, that was end of March last year. I am now 82kg having lost 35 kg. It is a marathon not a sprint, do not worry about what the scales are doing.

If you are eating in deficit, exercising and injecting once a week consistently, the weight should come off. Don't expect massive losses, I probably am averaging .5 to 1 kg a week at the moment. I have chosen to go slowly as I am learning how to eat properly and that takes time, breaking old habits and making new ones.

Don't panic and be consistent.

The weight comes off quicker of morbidly obese people. I ate low calorie soups and homemade meals when I lost that much.

Hi, I was 21.3stone when I started back in July 2024. I am now 17.9 stone.

I've averaged out at about a pound a week.

You’ve been on it for less than a week! This isn’t a miracle drug and just like anything, you have to put the work in.
Some people, like myself , are slow responders.
you have to remember that you didn’t put the weight on in a short time, this is years (well a lifetime for me) of been obese.

Don’t put so much pressure on yourself, or the injections .
I’m only on 10mg as I went up slowly up the doses.
ive stalled for the past 4 weeks, it happens.

Do some research, up your water , protein and fibre . You’ll get there ☺️

KeenLimeDreamer · 08/08/2025 09:44

I lost loads of weight it the first weeks I'm on week 8 and still on 2.5 pen I've lost 35 lbs so far and I seem to be losing a 4 - 6lb a week at the moment I walk over 2 miles a day and eat 3 meals a day focusing mainly on protein. No side effects so other than weight loss obviously I also eat 6 prunes a day and drink lots of water. All my friends have lost the most on the 2.5 dose in the first few weeks 🤷
