After how much weight loss did you notice a difference?

Hello
I know this answer is going to be so different for everybody but I'm really curious. How much weight did you lose before you felt your clothes weren't as tight?
Before you were able to buy a size smaller?
And before anybody else noticed

Thank you

I was 103.6 kg, BMI 35.6. Felt better with every kilo lost. Distinctly better under 100, with BMI down under 35. Clothes looser and looked better.

By 97 kg the first clothes were too big, especially trousers as I was exercising and my waist and hips shrank. Other clothes just looked better and were more comfortable.

Now at 86kg or BMI 29 I’m one or two sizes smaller (14/16 instead of 18/20). Some clothes still work, especially some jumpers. Some clothes initially look too big, but then as I lose more weight they actually look ok again, as they sort of transform into a different look, like they’re meant to be oversized. But only some.

I’m only 8lb down in my first month but I’m back in some of my size 18s and my bra fits better.

I am in the high teens looking to lose 30lbs for my first target.

Weefreetiffany · 27/03/2025 09:33

Went from size 10 62kgs to size 18-20 85kgs with first pregnancy… and then from size 14, 68kgs to 88kg with second pregnancy. One year later and a lot of gym sessions I am 73kgs, but this time I have more muscle than when I was 68kgs and am noticeably slimmer/streamlined and wearing the clothes I wore when I was 68kgs. I think body composition counts for a lot and Im sure that by the time Im at my goal of 67kgs in September I will actually be a 10-12 because of the muscle mass, whereas Im a 14 at 73kgs currently and a 14 at 68kgs when I was just dieting and not exercising/ resistance training. I notice feeling slimmer now at 73kg and a 15kg loss than at 68kg after a similar loss because of the muscle.

I'm only halfway through week 2 but can already tell. I'm about 7lbs down, my jeans are more comfy. I'm much less bloated.

I can't wait for the weeks to come!

Adelstrop · 27/03/2025 09:50

In spite of being 38 lbs down and more than half way to my goal, I have only gone down one size and I still look like a blob. It's very frustrating. I'm short and apple shaped, so that's the reason, but I do long for the time when I can really see a difference. Patience is required I suppose!

CanIGoHomeNowPlease · 27/03/2025 10:16

I started in January at 20.5st and was size 22/24. I'm now 17.12st and a size 20/22 - so that's a loss of 2st 10lbs.

My size 24 clothes are now sacks and look terrible. I'm now trawling Vinted and eBay for size 20 clothes.

I have more energy and am sleeping much better, I think I had started to struggle to breathe when sleeping, and I don't have that issue any more. I have significantly less chins/chin and neck fat - which is nice.

shrinkingthiswinter · 27/03/2025 12:39

Strong agree with @Weefreetiffany , exercise makes a massive difference to this. I fit some things I last wore 24 years ago, when I weighed less but wasn’t as fit or muscular.

dizzydizzydizzy · 27/03/2025 13:42

I can’t exercise due to chronic illness. Despite this I have lost around 20kg or 3 stone, so obviously I am relying on a change of diet and a reduction in calories.

i was a size 20. I’m an 18 now, probably bordering on a 16 - I now need a belt for my size 18 jewns. I probably starting noticing the difference in tighter fitting clothes after about 4kg (5lb) - my jeans started getting loose. Most of my clothes are stretchy or not fitted so it wasn’t so obvious on most other clothing.

After about 8kg (18lb) of weight loss, people started commenting.

I wouldn’t say I feel amazingly much better except for acid reflux which now hardly ever happens and used to happen 2 or 3 times a week.

NewMrsF · 27/03/2025 14:21

There’s about 2st difference per dress size for me so it takes a lot unfortunately

ViolaPlains · 27/03/2025 14:44

3.5-4 stone is when people have started to notice even though I could see it way before then. It's annoying at times.

autumn1610 · 27/03/2025 14:57

I can start noticing a difference around 7lbs and have people asking if I have lost weight around that point. Currently size 14/16 and was 16 to start with. Aiming for size 10/12. Weight wise start weight 13st10lbs so I’m floating around 13st 3lbs and looking to get to 11st 7lbs which is me around a size 10/12

FedUpandEatingChocolate · 27/03/2025 14:59

Only lost about 5kg, but I can notice the difference in my face. Noone else has noticed yet, which is fine!

How tall are you? I'm at your goal weight at about 5'4" and 14s are now baggy.

leopard23 · 27/03/2025 16:29

I’ve lost 2.5 stone since January on the keto diet. I started to feel a difference after the first stone came off, but I’ve only just had to buy a new pair of jeans now I’m almost 3 stone down

I’m about 5’5” so not tall just a heavy person 🤣 I also like my curves so I actually don’t want to go smaller than a 10/12 but around 11st7 I’m roughly where I’m happy with. 11st I would think would be a comfortable 10 based on years ago!

LittleLamzyDivey · 27/03/2025 17:19

I've lost 40 lbs (from 220 to 180) and clearly have body dysmorphia as I can't see it 😩. Although no one else has said anything either so maybe it's not just me...

Oneeata · 27/03/2025 18:19

I'm 5 months in and have lost 4st I've gone from a 22 to a comfy 18 but can definitely get into a lot of 16s depending on cut and currently wearing size 14 knickers 😜 I haven't had anything in a 14 since I was pregnant 27 years ago. Took me around 5/6 weeks to drop the first size down.
Not quite half way there yet but I'm aiming for size 10. I'm 5ft 3.

AsteroidAnyone · 27/03/2025 18:35

I’ve lost 1 stone over 4.5 months - from 14 stone to 13 stone.

Tbh I barely notice the difference. I can wear a pair of jeans I bought in 2023 is about the only thing I’ve noticed 🤷‍♀️ 😞 - but even that is a win 🙂. Perhaps I am a bit less “puffy” looking around the face?

I think if I lost another stone I would definitely notice more. But even then I think most of my clothes at size 16 or “Large” would still fit me. That is apart from a couple of loose tops I bought last year that will most likely hang off me …. OTOH sone smaller clothes will fit me better. Swings and roundabouts.

IrisPallida · 27/03/2025 18:57

I could notice very quickly, within a couple of weeks. I don't think anyone else noticed until well after a couple of months! I went from a size 20 to a 14 in 18 weeks and am now a 10 or probably smaller after 9 months, and maintaining.

I am constantly amazed by threads on the reddit MJ forums where people post before and after pictures of their weight loss after a month or two, and I honestly can barely tell the difference in many cases. I know though, from my own experience that what was a huge obvious change to me was really not noticeable to anyone else.

LinaLouLa · 28/03/2025 09:03

Everybody is different. A few years ago I lost 4 stone and only went down one size.

Unfortunately I'm back where I started again now so having to fight to lose it all again, and more 😔

ItsStillWork · 28/03/2025 19:46

I’m 71 pound down and have gone from an 18-20 to a 14-16.

BMI 35.7 - 26.3

i still have a 40 inch waist though at 12st 9lb

slaytuesday · 28/03/2025 20:34

I am 5'6 and lost around a stone, so I'm now 11.5 stone. I need to lose at least another stone yet, but I & other people can really see the difference after losing the first stone.

Allmarbleslost · 28/03/2025 21:20

I've lost 2 stone so far this year. My clothes are feeling looser but I can't get into a size down yet.

Lola3034 · 28/03/2025 21:39

People started commenting when I lost roughly 2,5 stone. I have lost more since but thats the time when I was able to start wearing smaller size clothes.

TidyDancer · 29/03/2025 05:33

I had a flurry of comments recently and I’ve just gone past 4 stone lost. A couple of people were noticing at 2 stone. I’ve felt the difference at various points along the way. I started at 22stone (308lbs) exactly so my weight was very high and I’m now at about a 60lb loss 7 months in.
