After how much weight loss did you notice a difference?

Hello
I know this answer is going to be so different for everybody but I'm really curious. How much weight did you lose before you felt your clothes weren't as tight?
Before you were able to buy a size smaller?
And before anybody else noticed

Thank you

I started in January at 20.5st and was size 22/24. I'm now 17.12st and a size 20/22 - so that's a loss of 2st 10lbs.

My size 24 clothes are now sacks and look terrible. I'm now trawling Vinted and eBay for size 20 clothes.

I have more energy and am sleeping much better, I think I had started to struggle to breathe when sleeping, and I don't have that issue any more. I have significantly less chins/chin and neck fat - which is nice.

Can I ask how tall you are?

I was interested in your post because I am 5ft7 and was 20st2 at Christmas and now 18st13. I've gone from size 20/22 to size 18/20.

InfoSecInTheCity · 29/03/2025 06:06

Someone described it to me once as being like a kitchen roll, when you first start 1 sheet makes no difference to the thickness of the roll. As the roll gets smaller each sheet makes a more noticeable difference.

Thats how it’s worked for me. I started as size 22/24 and it took a good 2 stone before I felt like I should size down. As I’ve got smaller the clothes sizes change more frequently, I’ve now lost 4 stone total and wearing size 14, sometimes 12.

CanIGoHomeNowPlease · 29/03/2025 06:26

@TheDopamineKid I’m 5ft5.. I always used to carry my weight well. But since I hit perimenopause my stomach ballooned. That has reduced massively hence everything looking like sacks.

I’ve got a massive arse though and always have. Hence why It will be another stone at least until I’m comfortably in a 18/20

GoldfinchesInTheTree · 29/03/2025 07:57

I'm 5ft6 and currently 20 stone but about a size 26 as I have a giant middle. I've lost 2 stone and was 26/28.

Id love to know when I'll be smaller but I think I "run bigger" than those of you a similar weight to me!

17 is one of my goals and id love to know what I'll be then. I hope to be that by the summer. I guess it's more likely to be 22/24.

I'm thinking lots of my clothes will probably cover a range of sizes so it will only be when I get below 16 it will really notice/need to change/others will notice.

I love the kitchen roll analogy too - I keep thinking I'm putting all this ground work in (3 months in and not at all noticible! But 2 stone lost...) for when it is and that will be so worth it...

TheDopamineKid · 29/03/2025 08:20

Thanks @CanIGoHomeNowPlease

@GoldfinchesInTheTree that's interesting. At 17st I was a 16.

AsteroidAnyone · 29/03/2025 13:04

@TheDopamineKid out of curiosity, are you tall?

Everdecreasingcircle · 29/03/2025 13:21

I’ve lost 8stone since May last year on mounjaro.
Took 3+ stone for anyone to really notice.
Seeing people who haven’t seen me for a few months or so they are a bit shocked. Even I don’t recognise myself in mirrors. Takes a bit of getting used to. The kitchen roll analogy is so true as the smaller you get the more people notice.

WearyAuldWumman · 29/03/2025 13:32

I'm tempted by the injections, but I already have IBS, so don't want to risk it. Ergo, I'm using a combination of diet and exercise - mainly exercise. I'm a smidgen off 5ft9. Started out at 16st 4 and a size 20/22. My largest point is my fat stomach.

By the time I got down to 15st 4 I couldn't see a lot of difference, but friends and my GP commented that they could that I'd lost weight off my waistline. (I thought that maybe only my bust had gone down a bit.)

Then I realised that my size 22 trousers were slipping off me. Still fat, but now a size 18/20. (I can get away with a size 18 dress if it doesn't have a fitted waist.)

Currently 15st 1. Had lost more but my weight went up after I had a Mirena coil fitted after a cancer scare. (Biopsies all came back clear, but the consultant wants me on the progesterone as a preventative.) Weight is now heading down the way again.

I'm doing resistance and weight training at the gym. My arm muscles had wasted away - have always had skinny arms and wrists - and I now see my biceps coming back.

InfoSecInTheCity · 29/03/2025 13:37

Pic 1 I was about 220lb, pic 2 about 180lb and pic 3 about 170lb at 5 ft 8

WearyAuldWumman · 29/03/2025 13:40

It may be of relevance that I'll be 65 shortly. Also, I lost a lot of muscle because I spent two years hiding in the house after my husband died.

At one point, I had to use my arms to push myself off the couch. Can now stand up whilst holding a 5kg medicine ball and have been using a SPARC machine to work on my core - mainly the thighs and glutes. Using free weights for my arms plus a lat machine and a low rower - now managing 30kg for the last one.

FeatherChops · 29/03/2025 15:26

I’m quite short at just over 5 ft 3 and the currently weigh 9 and a half stone. Size 8 - 10.

I started at 15 stone and a size 16. My body shape slightly skewed by the fact I’ve previous had a tummy tuck and breast reduction so always had a flat stomach despite being huge everywhere else!

it took 2 stone for me to feel better and 4 stone for it to be very noticeable. I’ve now lost about 77 lbs and have been at target for about 4 months now so I’m currently navigating tapering down and maintenance

stargazer02 · 29/03/2025 16:08

Most of my clothes I bought at around 16 stone but could still wear them at my heaviest- 17 stone. But now I'm back down to 15.5 st everything is so much more comfortable. Nothing looks too baggy except for the stretchy jeans I must've permanently stretched out!
Not clothes but I am noticing my face had got really puffy looking but now looks significantly better.

JohnTheRevelator · 29/03/2025 16:55

I started off 10 stone overweight. After I'd lost 3 stone,I'd gone down a clothes size and started to notice that my clothes were getting loose. My nextdoor neighbour also commented 'John! Have you lost weight?!' which really made my day. I've since lost another 4 stone and am now a size 16,down from a 24 - 26. I have had to buy a lot of new clothes! I've got approximately another 3 stone to lose. Hoping I can hit my target by Christmas this year!

@TheDopamineKid out of curiosity, are you tall?

Not especially. 5ft7.

frogpigdonkey · 29/03/2025 19:14

I started a 15 stone and 5ft 2, now close to twelve and a half stone. It was about the two stone down mark that people really started noticing and I started to feel like my clothes were too big. Like many of us who go up and down in weight I favour flexible clothing that can accommodate a stone up and down without much bother so i think it took the 2 stone loss to really make it noticeable.

It’s interesting how people vary so much in terms of clothes sizes. I’m 5 ft 6. I weight 13 stone and am a size 16 M&S. I suppose some of it has to do with build etc.

TheDopamineKid · 30/03/2025 08:55

It's really odd, isn't it @AsteroidAnyone I wonder if some people have more muscle because I think that weighs more.

shrinkingthiswinter · 30/03/2025 13:57

@AsteroidAnyone I’m an inch taller than you and 3kg heavier and also m n s 16 now. So that makes sense at least!

In my case, I carry most of my extra weight around the stomach. For some weird reason, my arms have always been skinny. When I started to lose weight again this time round, the first place where I noticed the weight loss was the bust: I was quite happy about that, since I'd developed heavy, matronly boobs.

I wouldn't call them perky now, but they certainly don't sag as much. I'm told that you can't spot reduce fat, but the places where I notice the reduced size are the places that I've specifically managed to exercise. (I have knee issues, so certain exercises are forbidden. However, it's impossible to avoid bending my knees completely - in spite of what my consultant said - since I need to keep working on my thigh muscles.

I've been dong a lot of band resistance and free weight exercises for the chest and upper arms plus the lat pull and low row in the gym. It's noticeable to me that my biceps are coming back and I've lost fat on my back and some down the sides.

I do 5 minute bursts on a SPARC machine (set flat, not at an incline because of the knees) and I can see the difference in my outer thighs and glutes.

I'm still rather large, however. If I could afford it, I'd consider liposuction and a tummy tuck. My size 20 jeans are loose on me everywhere except the stomach. (Currently a smidgen off 5ft 9 and 15st 1lb.). I'm trying to figure out standing and seated stomach exercises since getting down on the floor at the gym is a problem for me - my knee condition means that my patella are prone to dislocating.

AsteroidAnyone · 30/03/2025 16:36

@WearyAuldWumman yes I too have slim arms, big bust and wide waist. I think I am large boned, broad shoulders - but not muscular. I should do some weights to get things pulling together a bit more. Quite a lot of stress atm but things should calm down in a couple of weeks so hopefully will have some space then …. Meanwhile slow progress is still progress 🏆 we just have to keep going …

Illbefinejustbloodyfine · 01/04/2025 13:51

I have now lost 1st and can definitely see a difference in my stomach and rib area. I look like I've lost water too , ankles, feet snd hands look more defined.

Cervidae · 01/04/2025 18:49

Is it possible to use this for a quick fix?

I could do with losing maybe a stone, have a wedding to go to soon & quite fancy the idea, so my outfit looks just right.

How much will it cost me and where do I look for an ethical supplier?

SilenceInside · 01/04/2025 18:52

@Cervidae if you have only a stone to lose are you even qualified to take this - a BMI over 30, or 27 plus with a weight related health condition or 27 plus if you are one of a list of ethnicities where obese is categorised as 27 plus?

AsteroidAnyone · 01/04/2025 18:54

@Cervidae it’s not a quick fix for a wedding or party.
