Mounjaro severe sickness and diarrhea

Hi everyone. Took my first dose of 2.5mg Saturday. Since Sunday morning iv had horrendous diarrhea, to the point it is now water and bloody. Started being sick Sunday afternoon. Have been able to eat or even smell food. Only keeping water down and this is jit and miss. I now have the constant stomach pains and need to go to the toilet urgently. Nothing is coming out except water. Any help or advice. I had to call in sick to work today and iv been in tears. I don't know what to do.....

If you are bleeding ring 111 for advice, that is a pretty extreme reaction. I wouldn't take any more medication either without talking at a medical professional.

Yeah that’s a bad reaction and you should seek medical advice urgently. You might be someone who can’t tolerate this medication. It will probably take a while for you to feel better as it’s got a long half life. It should be out of your system after about 10 days though and hopefully improve as the levels drop.

Call the prescriber, did they not tell you what to get in to combat the side effects at your consultation? Bad show if they didn't.

Hi all thank you for your replys. It's bleeding like I have had previously when you have say a stomach bug and you have been to the toilet that much you get sore. No they did not.give me any advice on what to get in to combat side effects unfortunately. I havnt been sick since last night and not just stomach pain and rushing to the toilet now and then. Feel like I need to go but havnt eaten for anything to come out. Can't stomach food when I try

Could you have picked up norovirus at the same time? It would be a coincidence but from having read about the wli this sounds extreme. Maybe a bug and the injection have coincided and caused a more extreme reaction to both?

Maybe but that would be unlikely. It’s much much more likely that it’s a bad reaction to Mounjaro and my guess is that any health professional would advise immediately stopping the medication. Some people do end up in hospital from them including on a lower dose. Yes it’s unusual and most people are fine but it does happen.

I did have diarrhea Saturday morning a few times and thought I'd eaten something bad. I do have ibs so get bouts of diarrhea. Does anyone have any tips on what's helped with diarrhea on mounjaro

Oh I'm really sorry, I've just been through a horrible weekend of vomiting and diarrhoea on MJ but yours sounds worse and I've been on it for 6 months. I hope you won't take it again. Do contact the prescriber.

Tbh as far as tips go I think you might just have to wait it out. But the prescriber might have ideas.

I defo think this has put me off. I'm going to email the provider today. I'm feeling dreadful 😕

If you already have IBS then maybe your stomach is particularly sensitive to Mounjaro. Try to keep up hydration by having electrolytes. I really hope you feel better soon.

First injection of 2.5 on Saturday, diarrhea started about midnight so 9 hours ago and I can't get off the toilet.
I'm now being sick, I'm crying my eyes out typing this as I feel horrendous

Iv been the same. Literally in tears. Pain like iv got food poisoning but nothing in my stomach to come out. It's horrible. Started to die down about now so about 40 hours maybe after the injection.

Probably wasnt the best time to start if you were already experiencing diarrhoea before the injection as your system was already not happy, but I understand you probably wanted to get started and its done now.

I would get some diarrhoea tablets from a pharmacy or supermarket that should help, get some electrolytes and then contact your provider if you need further help.

Given that your stomach was not happy before the injection, you may have a stomach bug and the injection on top has just really annoyed things, equally it could be an ibs flare up, again that has worsened by the injection. If you do contact the provider, give them all the information about your stomach issues prior to injection so they can properly advise.

Did you contact your prescriber? I'm sat in the bath atm cos my bum is burning, sorry for tmi and I just feel like putting myself under.
I dont deal well with normal d&v symptoms but this is next level. 9 hours every 10-20 minutes
And I've just weighed myself I've lost 5lb I'm not surprised 🤦‍♀️ x

Putting Vaseline on your clean anus after diarrhoea will help the burning.

Iv contacted my prescriber. They seemed to think it's normal expecially if I had a bad stomach prior to.taking the injection. He said if it continues into tonight or the morning or gets worse give them a call. He thinks I may get gastro issues each injection if iv had a reaction this time. I'm now contemplating not taking any more incase as I can't handle this. Suppose to be my first day at a new job today and couldn't go

I had horrendous diahorrea for the first couple of weeks on it - I didn't like to be too far from a toilet as i did have a few close calls. However, I didn't feel sick or ill so I just persisted and all was fine. I'm now on my second 2.5 pen as it has put me off going up to the 5. MJ doesn't suit everyone though, maybe it's just not the way forward for you.

Oh poor you. Do you live with anyone? There's so many D&V bugs around so it's possibly that... maybe someone else in the household will also come down with it. Fingers crossed for you. (And legs.)

I'm afraid I'd think it certainly is MJ, given that it's a known side effect up to and including occasional hospitalisation. Hope it settles very quickly.

People at work have been dropping like flys with d&v so don't know if it's both combined

It's awful. Iv stopped being sick but still have stomach pains. All I can describe it like is having food poisoning but there's nothing left in my stomach to come out so it's just cramping 😩

I'm thinking of not taking another jab. I can't feel like this for days after each one

I have contacted my Dr, who also said it was normal.
I just want a time frame really of when it will stop
My stomach is cramping so much it's so sore and it's still coming out
I don't think I'll carry on with the rest of the injections either

It's possible, especially if you had the runs before you took the jab and have been surrounded by people with D&V at work. Horrible for you either way!
