Hi everyone. Took my first dose of 2.5mg Saturday. Since Sunday morning iv had horrendous diarrhea, to the point it is now water and bloody. Started being sick Sunday afternoon. Have been able to eat or even smell food. Only keeping water down and this is jit and miss. I now have the constant stomach pains and need to go to the toilet urgently. Nothing is coming out except water. Any help or advice. I had to call in sick to work today and iv been in tears. I don't know what to do.....

Timeline of my bout: jabbed late on weds evening, D&V Saturday midmorning, felt like crap all Sat, ate on Sat evening and felt dreadful all night, attempted breakfast of a smoothie on Sunday, eventually puked again Sunday early evening with reappearance of the smoothie and more D, slept well Sun night and woke up feeling ok. Yours sounds more intense than that.

Think mine started around 10 hours maybe 12 after the first jab. Lost 6.6 pounds in just under 2 days due to it I think

If people have been dropping like flys with S&P then I don't think you can rule out that it's just a horrible coincidence.
I've just had a few days of the worst diarrhoea of my life, such painful stomach cramps I was crying and passing water. Yesterday I managed to have a dioralyte and a banana which seemed to really help.
I've been on mj for 11 months and although the occasional diarrhoea motion nothing like this. I'm nervous about my next jab now as it could've been this but also I know a lot of people (including in laws) who have had similar but not as bad.
I had also the day before had a lot of food and drink that's known to make it worse on mj (special occasion) I ate lasagna (onions and tomatoes) and had a few glasses of cava. This could've contributed to why it was so bad.

I don't think mine is norovirus, been off work since Thursday evening and it started around midnight but appreciate you posting for the op and anybody else looking for answers 🫶
At what point should I look to contact nhs24 or something similar? I also feel stupid doing that as I feel it's self inflicted but I haven't kept any fluid or food down, if it's not sickness it's coming out the other end
The stomach cramps and noises are awful 😖

Youvebeenmuffled · 10/03/2025 12:14

This happened to me, admitted to hospital twice, had to stop taking it as my body just couldn’t handle the medication

Finallydoingit24 · 10/03/2025 12:47

Don’t feel bad about contacting the NHS about this. You risk getting severely dehydrated if you do not get medical treatment. Because the medication has such a long half life as well, you are likely to need some medical attention as the symptoms won’t just pass in 24 hours. That is why some people end up getting admitted to hospital for vomiting and diarrhoea and put on a drip.

I guess it doesn’t matter that much whether it’s norovirus or Mounjaro (you should always seek medical help if you have severe d&v for days) but it is very likely it’s the medication because it has this as a known side effect and the symptoms have come on shortly after taking it. A lot of people are keen to attribute side effects to other things such as bugs and viruses but the fact remains that it’s really not unheard of for Mounjaro to cause these side effects and some people just cannot tolerate it. If you attended a&e my guess is they would tell you to stop taking it.

Twiglets1 · 10/03/2025 12:52

I had a similar reaction from Ozempic which I was taking for weight loss - though more vomiting less diarrhoea than you.

The only good thing was that the side effects stopped after a day or two but I didn't dare take it again.

LunaMay · 10/03/2025 13:00

Known side effects aren't they? Do you not read up on what your taking?

They are known side effects but most people don't get them or get these side effects only mildly.

It's rare for someone to get this ill from weight loss drugs so I consider myself unlucky and the same for OP or others who experience severe vomiting or diarrhoea .

It's definitely bad luck. It's awful. Have managed a hand full of grapes all day and just water. It's a complete killer. My provider said its normal to be unwell but things it was be something combined with the medication such as a bug. Never felt this unwell before from a sickness bug 😭

Can't handle another bout of this

I didn't have a sickness bug it was just side effects ... not everyone can take these weight loss drugs though I might be tempted to try a micro dose in future to see if my body would "allow" that.

I don't know... just trying to lose weight the long and boring way now.

LunaMay · 10/03/2025 13:40

I do sympathise, didn't mean to come across so cold lol

I had similar when going up on ozempic plus dealing with normal side effects from metformin. Took me out for at least 4 days every time with vomiting and diarrhoea. I would have to make sure I did it Friday evening and brace for a shitty weekend. I had to stop for a while due to supply and honestly it's the thought of going through that again that holds me back from trying again.

richardosmanstrousers · 10/03/2025 14:23

Think mine started around 10 hours maybe 12 after the first jab.

That's not true though. You started the MJ on Saturday but also had diarrhea Saturday morning a few times

Also...

People at work have been dropping like flys with D&V

I wouldn't be so fast to blame the MJ here at all. That said I would not take another dose until fully clear a week or so from being ill.

(Not the op, just another poor bugger Grin)
Yes very known side effect, as is the nausea and vomiting but I just didn't expect it to be this bad
I have soiled myself so many times now because it's just coming out at an alarming rate, I don't even need to be on the toilet I just need to stand up. I wouldn't really say that's common

Kellyjelly33 · 10/03/2025 14:55

What did you eat in the couple of days before you started mj? Did you have a one last binge type scenario? Any high fat or sugar foods already in your system still need to come out.

Edited

I would blame the Mounjaro and I wouldn’t take another dose unless a doctor expressly advised it. She’s pooing blood which is extremely serious. It’s all well and good speculating about it being a random coincidental virus but it’s far more likely to be the WLI. Whilst it is rare, a fair few people do end up hospitalised from this drug. I take it myself so I’m definitely not saying nobody should take it but if it makes you shit blood then seriously heed the warning.

richardosmanstrousers · 10/03/2025 16:42

@Finallydoingit24

I would blame the Mounjaro

You would be foolish to do so.

OP has already said she had diarrhoea in Saturday morning and that her work has people dropping like flys from D&V. The bleeding is the same bleeding OP has had before with a bug - sometimes the obvious solution is the correct one.

I mean it could be the MJ, but realistically it's probably the same bug the rest of her work have.

Season0fthesticks · 10/03/2025 18:31

@CD1997 I think that's the diarrhea stopped finally, still feel so sick and sluggish and my belly is still cramping. The sulpher burps are something else 😩How are you? X

Right well hopefully she will get advice from a medical professional before taking it again rather than relying on your advice for her to take this medication again and casually dismissing rectal bleeding. I’m guessing the others on this thread who have reported similar, one of whom ended up in hospital, were also struck down by random bugs that had nothing to do with Mounjaro.

knackeredmu · 10/03/2025 19:08

If you do feel like eating- suggest small amounts of protein - so a boiled egg, slice of ham etc and just go slowly - avoid fats and carbs until you start to feel more like normal as I found this made me feel worse

Drink lots of water and I mean a ridiculous amount

It does settle down and work but it can be grim

Hannieandme · 08/05/2025 16:00

Did this eventually ease off? I’m really struggling

Hello
I'm really sorry you are struggling.
Mine stopped on day 4 and then when I done the second injection, I had it for 3 days, same for the following week.
Take imodium. My symptoms were because I didn't eat clean before hand

Hannieandme · 08/05/2025 17:46

Imodium did nothing for me 😭. Iv been taking mounjaro for four months and I was absolutely fine before. It’s so weird. The provider has told me to stop taking it 😩
