Is there any loss in 1st month?

I've signed up for monjaro, hoping to start 2.5 end of this week.
Is it always the case that you don't lose until the 2nd month when you go up in strength?

Wanted to have a better idea as I would think it's not working for me if no loss and stop using.

I lost just over a stone in my first month, but I was obese to start with. Everyone is different so it’s hard to predict.

Okayornot · 24/02/2025 20:03

I lost a lot in the first month, but I did switch to a high protein diet and essentially eliminated the vast majority of carbs except for green vegetables, kiwis and (limited amounts of) berries.

lemoncrisp · 24/02/2025 20:07

I lost a lb in my first week and that rate of loss has continued every week since I started. Week 8 now. Couldn't believe it was so instant! Started at 12stone 1lb.

Lots of people lose big amounts in first week due to water and inflammation. I lost 5lbs on my first week and started on 13 stones. Since I've lost over 1.5 stones

llamamma · 24/02/2025 21:37

I lost 8.5lb in the first 4 weeks. Good luck OP.

SilenceInside · 24/02/2025 21:39

It would be incorrect to assume it's not working and to stop before moving up to the doses that were shown to produce significant weight loss (on average) in the clinical trials. The first of those is 5mg, then 10mg and then 15mg. Some people find the 7.5 or the 12.5mg works well for them too, and stick with one of those doses.

Some people do get an immediate reaction to the 2.5mg but that doesn't mean it should be expected or that it's an issue if you don't.

Like others have said, I think those who do lose weight in week 1 are those who make drastic diet changes in week 1. I was tracking food in MyFitnessPal, aiming for low carb, high protein, lots of green veg and lots of water from day 1 and lost 5lb in the first week.

It is also due to reduced inflammation and so water retention and bloating. For me I've looked pregnant since I was 18 due to the water I retain esp on my belly, fingers, face and being insulin resistant! My belly is almost flat now. I started a healthy eating and exercise 6 weeks before mounjaro so was already doing high protein. Didn't even start drinking more water until almost 3 months after starting to get a dry mouth and throat daily

11 pounds down on 2.5mg in the first 4 weeks. Hoping second month will be as rapid but I'm sure it's going to slow down.

Letsnotargue · 24/02/2025 23:06

I’ve lost 7lbs in the first 2 weeks. This is partly because I do feel a bit nauseous and this makes me want to eat in small
quantities, and makes me picky about what I do eat. Annoyingly it’s not traditional ‘diet’ foods that I feel like eating, but I do struggle
to reach my calories in a day.

My OH is completely different and has just started 5mg almost the same weight as he started (he’s a couple of weeks ahead of me).

Goinghome24 · 25/02/2025 06:57

I lost a lot on my first month ... a full stone! It was a bit scary tbh. Thankfully since then it has slowed right down and Ive stayed the same or lost 1lbs a week.

On Wk 12 now.. 5mg dose, total loss is 23lbs so far

Elmo230885 · 25/02/2025 07:03

Everyone is different. I lost weight quickly from the start and haven't needed to go above 5mg. Almost at a healthy BMI now, just a couple of kg left which I'm doing without the jabs. I lost 1 stone before the jabs, 4 with and have lost a further stone since stopping. I really need to make this work. I made big changes to diet (side effects DH has lost weight too!) and increased exercise.
Conversely a colleague started a couple of months after me and she had no loss at 2.5mg or 5mg; at 7.5mg she has now started losing slowly.

It's hard to know how it will help until you start.

All the best 👍

I've lost about a pound or so every week consistently from day one.

I think I dropped from 13 stone 7 to 12 stone 9 in the first month.

I injected first shot at night and awoke with zero appetite.

Experiences will vary though. Good luck.

itsjustthewayitwas · 25/02/2025 07:38

Have any of you had side effects? I would like to try it but I’m scared.

Zempy · 25/02/2025 07:39

Constipation early on. Tiredness. That’s it.

BachandBiscuits · 25/02/2025 07:55

No loss on 2.5, staring to lose on 5. Appetite suppression much greater on 5. Feeling quite tired since I increased ny dose 6 days ago but no gastric problems yet so I am planning yo stay on 5 for at least another month.

name1234noidea · 25/02/2025 08:03

I have restarted twice and didn't really lose much on 2.5, but this changed at 5.

I have lost lots of hair.

Plenty of people will have had side effects. They're mainly mild and can be dealt with by OTC treatment or changes to diet. Hair loss is a potential issue with any weight loss programme. I had some hair loss, it lasted for about 4 months and is now resolved, no treatment needed, just time.

Plenty of people will have had little to no side effects. A few people will have had some of the rarer more serious side effects. You have to decide if the risks of you remaining obese are worse than the slight risk of side effects whilst taking Mounjaro.

😩😩

Miley1967 · 25/02/2025 08:31

I'm into my second month. I lost a lot initially but now loss is virtually nothing. I want to go up to next dose but very wary due to still getting nasty side effects on 2.5.

Miley1967 · 25/02/2025 08:31

itsjustthewayitwas · 25/02/2025 08:27

😩😩

Yes my hair has definitely thinned.

eeeeeeeee · 25/02/2025 08:37

I lost around 6kg in my first month. It was enough to bring my BMI into overweight category I believe.

I have pretty much finished losing the weight (my BMI is 22.5 and I have 4kg to my dream weight). I can say that looking back I lost hair too. It’s stabilised now. I think when I was obese the only part of myself that benefited was my hair, it was luscious back then haha

itsjustthewayitwas · 25/02/2025 08:40

What is it that causes the thinning hair?
