Utterly fed up - explosive poops, sickness and stomach cramps

WaffleDogg20 · 28/11/2024 22:44

Week 15 here. Currently lost 4 stone but the last 5 weeks have been horrible.

I started on 7.5mg and within a day I had explosive diarrhoea and sickness. Sadly I was on holiday and ended up bed bound for the whole time. It lasted 5 days which seems to be how long it always lasts between injecting.

stuck it out for a month, ended up at the doctors a few times thinking I had gallstones or something because Imodium doesn’t even touch the diarrhoea. I end up living on dry toast etc.

decided to order the 5mg and try that. Took it Tuesday and this morning I woke at 2am with burps and passing wind. Knew what was coming :( have spent all day throwing up and explosive poops again.

I have around 6 stone still to lose. I’m absolutely heartbroken that it’s not working for me but it is for others. My last chance before surgery :(

im off to Germany on holiday next week and really can’t be poorly for it.

im debating coming off for a couple of weeks then restarting on 2.5mg? Or do I risk it and take 5mg next week? Or 2.5mg next week? I don’t know what to do.

:(

I'd stop completely for now before the holiday. My daughter has done the band. She gets a bit of sickness when they adjust. But nothing like your symptoms. Phone your GP in the morning please.

FlappingMadly · 28/11/2024 23:18

Sounds miserable sorry you were ill during your holiday.
Were you eating anything that could cause a reaction?

Snozzlemaid · 28/11/2024 23:27

If I was in your position I would stop now too.
Go and enjoy your holiday then start again at 2.5 to see how you go on that low dose again.

MounjaroUser · 28/11/2024 23:33

For how long did you take the 2.5 and the 5?

I would do far fewer clicks next time - half the dose you're meant to take - and I'd wait 8 or 9 days, too, rather than 7.

HazelJoker · 28/11/2024 23:52

Sorry you are going through this. I had same after 4wks on 7.5mg .I took a month off and just restarted on 2.5mg 1 wk ago .so far I'm OK.. suppression not as effective as first time round but I want to get back upto the 5mg if I can

Moier · 28/11/2024 23:53

Have you adjusted your diet? No fatty or spicey foods? More protein and water?. I bought ginger root capsules ( for sickness feeling) peppermint oil capsules for wind and burping.. loperamide l have on prescription anyhow ( for diahorrea). But I've just finished my 4 weeks on 10mg and ordered 12.5 and I've had no side effects.. but l stopped eating bad foods. Felt i didn't want to.
I've lost 3 stone in 16 weeks.

VelociraptorsVelociRapping · 29/11/2024 08:25

I am so sorry that you have been unwell. You need to consult your prescriber but I think they will almost certainly advise you to stop taking the medication altogether. You have been lucky to avoid hospitalisation so far and if you have been bed-bound during these episodes then unfortunately much of the weight that you have lost is likely to be muscle wastage.

You can use a GLP plotter to work out when the drug is likely to be entirely out of your system and then again take your prescriber's advice about starting again from 2.5mg. You may need to go no higher than 5mg.

LastTimeLosingIt · 29/11/2024 10:40

Did you start with 2.5? I'm reading your OP that you started at 7.5

Snozzlemaid · 29/11/2024 10:42

I'm struggling with this now too, after 6 months of no side effects.
I've been so smug having got this far, but it's well and truly kicking my arse now 😞
Dropped down to 7.5 this week as I've been having a day of diarrhoea after the last couple of doses of 10mg, so thought I ought to reduce my dose.
But 2 days after the lower dose I'm suffering diarrhoea and cramping since last night.
I'm going to leave it longer than 7 days for my next jab and may go lower again.
Monitoring my Shotsy app closely to see when the amount in my body will be lower again to hopefully stop these symptoms.
I don't want to stop completely, I still have 3 stone to lose to get to a healthy BMI.

She says she has been on MJ for 15 weeks and started 7.5mg five weeks ago.

Eraserbread · 29/11/2024 10:47

Can you pin it down to something you're eating? It happens to me if I eat certain foods, and it's not necessarily the kinds of foods you would think, For example, I can't eat mashed potato or rice, even in minute amounts or it'll be an explosive poo!

Sorry, wrong thread. Will ask mnhq to delete.

Tradersinsnow · 29/11/2024 11:27

Is it worth trialling ozempic instead? I know MJ is supposed to have a lower side effect profile but it might be worth a trial if it is your last thing before surgery?

Losingthetimber · 29/11/2024 12:31

What are you eating op before you inject and the day you do?

Phew! I wasn't sure from your OP

Can we stop advising g people to do “clicks” . There is no such dosing guidelines other than what the manufacturers state. Doing clicks is no different from adjusting chemo or any other prescribed medication so why people think it’s ok to do it with MJ blows my mind.
No doubt someone will come back and say well
it works for me, again I’d say would you do it with any other prescription medication, I doubt it.
in answer to your problem I would echo what others have said around diet.
i can no longer eat quiche, cheese toasties or any kind of fatty foods unless I want a dose of the squirts

Doggymummar · 29/11/2024 19:17

I've never done clicks for the record. But absolutely I can't eat anything fatty or tolerate alcohol. No side effects yet but I learnt on Ozempic that those would make me poorly. It's horrible, but if you persevere with the dietary changes the symptoms subside. Well they did for me.

That's so similar to gallstone sufferers

giggly · 30/11/2024 00:38

@justasking111 yes I know, those foods irritated my gallbladder way before starting on MJ as does drinking sparkling water.
I compare gallbladder pain as equal to labour

Tradersinsnow · 30/11/2024 00:52

How else can you titrate oz or MJ if you don't count clicks and need to increase more slowly? It's not dangerous or changing the medication in any way. I count clicks at the moment because I have a large pen and cannot get a small pen, they haven't been available for months here in Aust. It was my doctor who showed me how to count clicks! The click charts are on reputable websites.

What do you think might happen with counting clicks? I can see a risk if people use that to go over the recommended dosage but you could do that without counting clicks.

FlappingMadly · 30/11/2024 08:29

Hope op is OK.
Not much we can advise without further details.

WeAllHaveWings · 30/11/2024 13:22

Speak to your provider, they will have experience of people in similar situations and are hopefully supportive.

My gut feeling, if it was me, is I would come off it now for a couple of months to give my body time to recover/ reset, try to keep to at least maintenance calories during that shorter time frame, then try to restart from scratch in early Feb. If it didn't work then I'd need to accept Mounjaro wasn't for me or perhaps explore wegovy instead.

diian · 30/11/2024 13:31

I had the same when I went up to 7.5mg @WaffleDogg20 . I went down to 5mg, and I still had diarrhoea, so I went down to 3.75 and was fine until I got to goal. There is nothing worse than stomach cramps and loo dashes. Do not let it ruin your holiday but do stick with a lower dose of MJ.
