Utterly fed up - explosive poops, sickness and stomach cramps

Week 15 here. Currently lost 4 stone but the last 5 weeks have been horrible.

I started on 7.5mg and within a day I had explosive diarrhoea and sickness. Sadly I was on holiday and ended up bed bound for the whole time. It lasted 5 days which seems to be how long it always lasts between injecting.

stuck it out for a month, ended up at the doctors a few times thinking I had gallstones or something because Imodium doesn’t even touch the diarrhoea. I end up living on dry toast etc.

decided to order the 5mg and try that. Took it Tuesday and this morning I woke at 2am with burps and passing wind. Knew what was coming :( have spent all day throwing up and explosive poops again.

I have around 6 stone still to lose. I’m absolutely heartbroken that it’s not working for me but it is for others. My last chance before surgery :(

im off to Germany on holiday next week and really can’t be poorly for it.

im debating coming off for a couple of weeks then restarting on 2.5mg? Or do I risk it and take 5mg next week? Or 2.5mg next week? I don’t know what to do.

:(

Why do you have to keep increasing the dosage?

Snozzlemaid · 30/11/2024 16:51

You don't have to but the standard process is to increase every 4 weeks.
But they advise more often now to stay on same dose if you're losing weight.

Who advises?

The pharmacies who prescribe it.

Can we stop advising g people to do “clicks” . There is no such dosing guidelines other than what the manufacturers state. Doing clicks is no different from adjusting chemo or any other prescribed medication so why people think it’s ok to do it with MJ blows my mind.
No doubt someone will come back and say well
it works for me, again I’d say would you do it with any other prescription medication, I doubt it.
in answer to your problem I would echo what others have said around diet.
i can no longer eat quiche, cheese toasties or any kind of fatty foods unless I want a dose of the squirts

I absolutely have taken less prescription medication than prescribed, including MJ by counting clicks. Not that I'm advising OP to do so, as I'm not her prescriber.

To really blow your mind, I can use your exact example. My consultant agreed that I was correct to have taken less of my Chemotherapy (Mercaptopurine for immune suppression) than he had prescribed. My side effects on the prescribed dose were too difficult for me to manage on top of the autoimmune disease symptoms, so until my next appointment I split the pill in half as I wasn't able to tolerate a higher dose. The lower dose had the desired effect so my consultant was happy for me to adjust as I saw fit, up to a maximum of the prescription dose.

I also usually take just one paracetamol rather than immediately take 2 as per the guidance, but know I have the option to take a second if one doesn't help. I just make sure to stay within the maximum dose.

The Kwikpen is even designed for counting clicks when used for other medication such as insulin.
