15mg mounjaro stopped working

missingthemidlands · 21/10/2024 16:00

I’ve only lost a small amount of weight but enough to keep happy with, have been on 15mg for two months now and I’ve noticed all the food noise is back.

does anyone have any ideas on what to do now? Am I doing something wrong? This was the only thing I’ve ever managed to lose weight on and I’m on highest dose so can’t increase. Feeling a bit low!

If you only managed to lose a small amount of weight on it anyway, perhaps it's just not the right medication for you? Maybe talk to your doctor?

IlovetoKnitandRead · 21/10/2024 16:18

So how much weight haveyou lost in the 4-5 months you have been on Mounjaro and has your diet changed on 15mg?

Danioyellow · 21/10/2024 16:20

How much have you lost? If you’re on the max dose and not losing then it’s obviously not working for you, maybe the loss you did have was more of a placebo effect?

SilenceInside · 21/10/2024 16:34

How much is a "small amount" and over what timeframe?

The only two options are continue, or stop. If you're getting any positive effects from the Mounjaro and you are able to lose weight however slowly, then staying on it would make sense. If it's doing absolutely nothing for you then is the expense worth continuing for a while to see if this is a temporary issue?

IrisPallida · 21/10/2024 17:27

Can you give more details? What is your weight loss, your age, current weight & BMI, what is your TDEE and how many calories are you eating? Are you exercising?

ThianWinter · 21/10/2024 17:29

If it's not working then stop using it, it's a very expensive way to lose weight, and once the food noise is back, it's there to stay. Speak to your prescriber and then you need to look at other methods of weight loss.

missingthemidlands · 21/10/2024 18:43

I’m 33, I have pcos.

there can be no other forms, nothing else has ever worked.

I’ve been on it since May, no idea on weight as I get too focused on numbers so decided not to, but my bmi has gone from 40.1 to 33.3. So at one point it did work.

i swim five times a week for 30-45 mins and cycle 20 mins to get to the pool and back. So definitely exercising.

It didn’t really kick in for me until about 7mg, then the noise went, I ate one meal a day and didn’t snack. I would feel myself getting hungrier by around Friday, with my injection day being Sunday. Now the noise is back and the willpower is gone again and I can feel myself get hungry already even though it’s Monday.

Doctor not interested as am now below the bmi of 40 for prescription. They will only prescribe slimming world, I don’t agree with slimming world (clearly insane that you could eat all the pasta you want), and have tried these things before.

I have read that with the drugs at some point everybody reaches a plateau.

ItsAlrightDarling · 21/10/2024 18:50

So you injected yesterday and are hungry today? Is this the only sign that it’s no longer working?
Sometimes I’ve had very hungry days for no reason. I eat a healthy meal, and move on. I don’t assume that it’s stopped working because of a hungry day.
Eat a nutritious meal with lots of protein and see how you feel tomorrow.

Doggymummar · 21/10/2024 18:50

I lost 5 stone last year and have been plateau for the whole of this year, it happens you have to wait it out.

Have you seen an improvement from the plateau??

I’m not, this has been happening ever since I moved on to 15mg. I almost feel like it’s the 15 that doesn’t work rather than anything else.

then wondered if I should try wegovy instead or something as it’s a different active

OP posts:
TryingToHelpBut · 21/10/2024 19:09

Wegovy didn't really work for me but mounjaro has been better so it might be worth swapping (I know you have to leave a gap in between - think it's a month) going back after a break might start it off again too.

FloordrobeIsGoingToGetME · 21/10/2024 20:24

If your BMI has gone from 40 to 33, OP, that's fantastic.

Well done.

I've read that some people do find lower does more effective, can you talk to your provider?

ObsidianTree · 21/10/2024 21:42

What's the expiry date on the 15mg pen? When you got it, was it delivered still cold?

There are some issues with warm pens not being as effective.

Sometimes around you period you feel extra hungry even on mj.

From your BMI it looks like you've been losing ok.

Maybe it's a pen that's lose it's effectiveness?

I don't think you should switch to wegovy. I think stick it out for another month or two on 15mg. Hopefully your next pen will be more effective.

I had this when I started on 12.5mg and 15mg. I felt like neither worked very well. These pens were delivered during a warm spell and the ice pack had melted, so realised this was the reason they weren't really effective for me. I am on my 2nd 15mg pen and it feels like it's working again.

That’s a really interesting response tbf thank you. I’m hoping to change provider as my current provider is a bit hopeless when it comes to delivery so maybe that is it.

TheGoingGetsEasyAfterItGetsTough · 21/10/2024 23:04

If 15mg isn't working for me, I'd go back down and keep going down every 4 weeks till I find the dose that works again. Sometimes you may have to revisit a lower dose to kick-start. You don't have to stay at a high dose especially if it isn't working much anyway.

WorriedRelative · 22/10/2024 10:59

Getting to BMI33 from BMI40 is a massive loss well done! Don't get disheartened.

Are you measuring yourself? It is well worth doing so you have an alternative method of monitoring progress. Often when the scales stall the tape measure shows progress.

I do think that you need to weigh yourself at least monthly to monitor progress.

I wouldn't do anything drastic now, your appetite will fluctuate and hunger is normal. Keep going. Progress will pick up again soon.

Maybe try switching a few things up. Changing your exercise a bit or adding a weights session or trying intermittent fasting might kick start things for you.

When you change provider look for one that gives you some support rather than just selecting based on price as it sounds as though being able to speak to a prescriber will help you.

No not yet, as I said I've been plateaud all year.

Have you explored hypnotherapy? It has been recognised by the British Medical Association since 1965 so it's not pseudo science. You would have to go private though

RagzRebooted · 22/10/2024 14:29

Are you tracking your calories? Not losing at all all year would be odd for any 'diet' and although it's really helpful when Mounjaro kills your appetite to the point that you don't have to think about calories, it isn't sustainable and that part of it wears off for most people eventually. You should still be getting other benefits of the drug, but may be at the stage where you have to put more effort in.
I've been on it since March and I do have to be mindful of what I'm eating now I'm not feeling sick and off wine all the time!

NippyCrab · 22/10/2024 14:40

@missingthemidlands I'm no expert but take the advice of the PP's and switch providers so you know with confidence your pen is arriving in the state it should be. Try that for one more 15mg and see how you go. Who are you with at the moment? I don't know how much your 15mg costs, Oushk are doing a Halloween special offer until the 4th November and the 15mg is £184. Their support is fab and might be an idea to chat to them before you order and see what they suggest for you. Good luck and don't give up. Xx

Singleandproud · 22/10/2024 14:46

If you are only eating one meal a day then that's likely to be the problem. You dont have to eat large or high calorie meals but you do need to refuel your body with healthy food regularly throughout the day.
