Things I don’t want to do since starting Mounjaro….

  1. overeat (obv)
  2. stay up late doing nothing. This was a real issue, now I just go to bed about 10pm
  3. take too much codeine
  4. drink much alcohol (I’m ‘forcing myself to have a glass!’)

is this a miracle drug?

Do you think it's better than Ozempic? I'm hoping to start on Ozempic next month, a friend is having good results, but this sounds better.

If it's dulling the dopamine seeking/dopamine high, presumably it's also killing your sex drive?

Some people have reported highs and some have reported a lowered drive. It works differently for different people.

Many have said it works better and has fewer side effects, according to the trials. MJ mimics two hormones while Ozempic has one.

According to Asda online doctor: Mounjaro contains tirzepatide, while Wegovy contains semaglutide. Both of these are GLP-1 receptor agonists. But Mounjaro is a dual agonist, which means it mimics 2 hormones (glucose‐dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) and GLP-1).

Mounjaro...is a weight loss injection that mimic hormones which send signals to the parts of your brain responsible for appetite and hunger. Ozempic helps type 2 diabetics regulate their blood sugar.

Mounjaro and Ozempic are injectable medications that contain a glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist. This type of medication can treat obesity and manage blood sugar levels. Mounjaro is also a dual agonist, which means it mimics another hormone as well as GLP-1.

This link might help.

Reduced ADHD chatty brain beautifully and eased joint pain, can walk fast without breathlessness- within first week so I think anti inflammatory rather than weight loss

coronafiona · 02/10/2024 22:25

What happens when you come off it? I'm really tempted to try but it's so expensive I cant do it for very long

ItsAlrightDarling · 02/10/2024 22:39

Bit envious as I haven't had any of these extra effects really! Still got a small online spending addiction 🤣, my brain isn’t particularly calm or anything like that. However I’ve lost 3 stone and got my BMI down to 23 so I’m happy with that, regardless of any other effects (or lack of!)

abracadabra1980 · 02/10/2024 22:53

Can it be taken with Sertraline and Levothyroxine?

DavidBeckhamsrightfoot · 02/10/2024 22:56

What are the actual costs?

abracadabra1980 · 02/10/2024 22:59

@Timeforicecream - interesting info-thank you.

Some have mentioned taking it fine with sertraline. I don't know about the Levothyroxine.

Thank you! Is that per month?

Yes I take sertraline and it's fine. It's helped the libido too after sertraline killing it!

DavidBeckhamsrightfoot · 02/10/2024 23:04

Thank you! Is that per month?

Yes it is. Comes with one pen a month. There are 4 doses in the pen - one dose a week. (You can get a 5th dose out of the pen if you want to because there will be more left after your 4th dose. You'd need to get the 5th dose out either by force twisting the pen or using a separate insulin syringe to get it out. There are many threads and posts on this if you want to do it).

StormingNorman · 02/10/2024 23:21

I’ve switched from Wegovy to Mounjaro and haven’t had much appetite suppression so my weight is going up while I titrate up the doses BUT…

This thread has made me realise why some of my addictive behaviours (hair twiddling, nail biting) have slowed right down and a lot of the incessant chatter in my head has calmed down too.

JustCleaningtheBBQ · 03/10/2024 15:16

If you had poor sleep before; insomnia, awake with your mind racing etc... had it helped with that?

Not for me, sadly.

That is brilliant. Well done you!

Things I never want to do since starting mj:

  1. Overeat
  2. Snack
  3. Drink fizzy drinks or alcohol
  4. Eat fruit - just seems pointless
  5. Bulk up meals with carbs like potatoes, pasta or rice. Meat/protein and veg is enough.
  6. Eat desserts. I still do fancy sweet things sometimes, but a couple of squares of choc or a biscuit is enough.
  7. Eat fried food or food with lots of fat/cheese - I avoid things like pizza, pastry, sausages, cheesy recipes, cakes etc. It just isn't appetising and I feel like shit if I eat them (and sometimes they give me bad mounjaro side effects)

I haven't had a reduction in sex drive - the opposite if anything. I have generally more energy now, although for the first 3 months on mounjaro I had less energy - I think I was just getting used to eating much less than usual.
My mood is much more stable than it used to be.
It's a bloody wonder drug.

CobaltRewind · 20/10/2024 08:50

I believe I have undiagnosed ADHD, both my children have ADHD and since I started taking MJ, my impulsivity, ‘out of nowhere’ rage, excessive drinking (a few glasses every night) and shopping addiction has basically stopped.

I feel calmer, more inclined to go to bed early and less more avoidant of ‘drama’ just to have my say.
