Has anyone started Mounjaro on a half dose (1.25)?

Desperate to get started but have things lined up over the next 4 weeks that would prove extremely difficult if I had any of the most common side effects such as nausea and the runs. The 2.5 seems to be basically about getting your body used to the drug, so I was wondering if anyone had halved it for a more gradual intro?

(I have emailed the pharmacy too, but not heard yet and also interested in the anecdotal angle too.)

I'm a wimp and always follow instructions! I can't imagine it would be any benefit to you to do that. 2.5 is a very low dose already. Kind of a waste of money.

MargaretElsie · 19/09/2024 10:03

Thanks, I wondered if it might be but it’s quite nerve wracking (although perhaps my view of the side effects is skewed anyway as people with very mild ones tend to not to say much!)

Are you on 2.5 then, and how were you the first time?

curiousfat · 19/09/2024 10:09

I did that! I started on v low dose (like a third of 2.5) just to check I wasn't going to keep over and then did 2/3 of the dose then the full 2.5. No side effects and great for putting my mind at ease. Then the first 2 weeks on 2.5 were great - no food noise, no snacking, but I'm now on the 3rd full dose of 2.5, and it doesn't seem to be having the same effect. Wondering if by building up slowly, I've effectively built my tolerance so that it's not working as well!

I think this is probably it. I had pretty much no side effects on the starter dose, and from my memory of the MJ threads at that time, most people had quite minor ones that settled quite quickly.

What would your plan be beyond the first month? To go up to 2.5mg for month two?

IvysMum12 · 19/09/2024 10:23

I was fine on 2.5mgm.
3 months on, it's 7.5mgm.

MargaretElsie · 19/09/2024 10:28

@Wonkypictureframe not sure of long term, will see how I get on with the 2.5 first!

I have around 50lb to lose, thanks menopause. I gave pretty much ditched alcohol, and try to eat low carb but, as I have an active job, I’m just bloody hungry! I am hoping this will kick start things a bit. I’m five foot 4 and horrified to see I weigh just over 13 and a half stone!

@curiousfat that’s interesting. Hmmm… I suppose I’m worried that the full dose will mean I’m effectively feeling dreadful for a week at a time, although I suspect that unlikely in reality.

I didn't have any side effects at all on 2.5mg. I went up to 5mg nearly 2 weeks ago and I do struggle with nausea for about 48 hours afterwards but otherwise ok.

Wonkypictureframe · 19/09/2024 10:37

Yep, I started off in a very similar place to you, OP, and have lost around four stone since spring on Mounjaro, steadily going up the doses, and with very minor side effects.

MargaretElsie · 19/09/2024 10:40

Wow! Well done!

Wonkypictureframe · 19/09/2024 10:43

I'm very aware there are people who have lost a lot more than me around here! I just wanted to reassure you a bit that it can be really straightforward.

MargaretElsie · 19/09/2024 10:47

I’ve just taken the first shot! 😳Wish me luck!

I've had very mild side effects on 2.5.
I'm currently half way through week 2.
Lost 9 lbs so far.
I delayed starting as had several big events I was doing.
Maybe just leave it for the few weeks?? And start when you know you'd be ok if has some side effects

Wonkypictureframe · 19/09/2024 10:48

Good luck!

MargaretElsie · 19/09/2024 10:49

@Wonkypictureframe Im trying to reign in my expectations but can’t help but get excited! I fall off the wagon far too easily (I walk dogs, walk 40-50 miles a week) as I get hungry and I am shocking if I am ‘hangry’ and then tend to over snack, even though my actual meals are quite healthy.

OP posts:
Wonkypictureframe · 19/09/2024 10:50

I haven't felt like I'm on a wagon on MJ. Food becomes a bit irrelevant to life and I have to remind myself to eat. And my hanger has totally disappeared. DH is thrilled.

MargaretElsie · 19/09/2024 10:57

This is what I am hoping. I don’t comfort eat, but I to overeat when I am hungry, and I am also prone to mindless snacking. I hoped no wine would have enough of an impact to see a difference, even if just via the scales rather than visibly, it it hasn’t really. Guess a vague plus to take from that is that perhaps I didn’t drink as much as I thought!

@Theredjellybean Ive now taken the full dose and have only just seen your message. I was reluctant to delay further as I suspect there would always be an excuse. I am also away for 3 weeks at the end of Jan and really hope I’ll have managed to make a visible impact by then! Delaying by a few weeks might make too much difference the wrong way.

I was a big drinker and like you, I thought cutting 600 calories (a bottle of wine) a day would mean the weight would drop off me without having to do anything else. It didn't - basically, I was still eating beyond the level of calories my body needed to lose weight (about 1200 a day). Not a lot more but still too much.

MargaretElsie · 19/09/2024 11:17

This is what I was magically hoping for as well, and it didn’t make any difference. It also took a lot of willpower and I did feel as if I was missing out. To then not see any result after over a month, with only a couple of lapses, was really disheartening.

i take it you’re on MJ now then? If so, how’s it going?

I used to get really hangry. Completely stopped using a dose of 2.5. Good luck!

Theredjellybean · 19/09/2024 11:22

I was bog drinker...2.5 has completely turned me off it !

Theredjellybean · 19/09/2024 11:22

Big drinker....😂

Wonkypictureframe · 19/09/2024 11:27

I was a 'dive into the wine at 6pm on a Friday' person, and couldn't imagine a night out without a bit of booze. I now barely drink.

fussygalore118 · 19/09/2024 11:27

Hi

Just wanted to say, I started on Monday and have felt absolutely fine. No issues at all ( wee bit of crap sleep but I'm peri menopause so sleep is shit anyway!)

My husband is also taking it and he feels a wee bit off, it's not impacting anything, in fact he is still playing his usual sport.

Im amazed at the results so far. It's genuinely incredible for us anyway!

Good luck
