I'm thinking of ordering but one of biggest concerns is telling my teenage DDs.
I try not to discuss weight with them, they are both slim but I am not the body positive woman I want to be.

I feel a bit weird to hide it but also to tell them I'm doing it.

Also, do you tell friends and family or just say you've changed eating habits?

Don’t support this use of diabetic drugs.

HeBeaverandSheBeaver · 08/09/2024 14:17

@Pasithean

We don't care and why comment then

Don’t support this use of diabetic drugs.

...and this is the reason that people feel they can't share with those around them. Surely it's best to find out on a societal level exactly what the impact of the drugs are.

There's no reason for you to comment is there? Unbelievable!!
Why are you in this section if you don't agree. Urgh I'm annoyed I've been baited now. Reported your goady comment.

Back to the thread.
I spoke to my husband at length and even when I initially mentioned it he said i know you will have looked into it and I support you. He knows I have had issues with emotional eating and addictive personality problems. I have told 2 other friends, one is a close friend who is not a person who judges people and an acquaintance friend who struggles with weight loss and mentioned the jags. There's one other person who I asked if they had ever thought about the jags, she started on IF in Jan and we weigh in every week together for accountability. Her answer was that it was a waste of money and she had better things to spend money on plus just eat less and move more lol. She's lost about half a stone since Jan and says oh well it's a lifestyle change I'm not giving up my wine, takeaways, biscuits etc it will come off eventually. I haven't disclosed that I made the decision to actually start MJ. I'm sticking to a fully clean diet, doing as much activity as my health conditions allow and I'm losing 2 - 2.5lbs a week so not huge amounts, just as much as a person not using MJ would lose. The difference I have no emotional uncontrollable cravings and my portions are of a normal size. There's so much more to MJ than people realise, i won't be telling anyone else.

Why should diabetics struggle to get a drug that is increasingly difficult to get that keeps them alive. Whilst the weight loss industries are paying shed loads for it to be used in weight loss drugs. Same with Zoe

Report away. Still won’t help the insulin shortages.

Mounjaro is not usually offered to diabetics, and there is no shortage of it in the UK, perhaps you're thinking of Ozempic? Wegovy is the weight loss version of that, which again has been controlled so that it doesn't affect diabetics who need it.

SilenceInside · 08/09/2024 14:52

@Pasithean insulin is not semaglutide (Wegovy or Ozempic) nor is it tirzepatide (Mounjaro).

These drugs don't contain insulin so how do you come to the conclusion they are causing shortages.
Utter nonsense.

SilenceInside · 08/09/2024 14:57

@CrazyGoatLady no worries, I won't engage beyond correcting clear misinformation. I often feel that's useful for anyone lurking.

Tirzepatide is a competitor GLP-1 drug to semaglutide, which is made by Novo Nordisk and branded as Ozempic for diabetes and Wegovy for weight loss. Sales of both tirzepatide and semaglutide have boomed in recent years as people flock to the drugs to help lose excess weight.

I’ve told 3 people - my DH, my DM because we are very close and she is supportive, and one close friend because she confided in me that she had started taking it. By coincidence she started on the same day as me so it’s great having someone to go through the journey with. I won’t be telling anyone else because of the mis-informed judginess out there (as evidenced by one poster on this thread).

I think it is surely better that I do this whilst paying for it out of my pocket, and preventing future weight-related health problems that would cause a financial burden to the NHS down the line, but people don’t seem to understand that!

Xiaoxiong · 08/09/2024 15:27

DH, and my closest colleague at work as I knew she wouldn't judge me and I was initially worried I might have some side effects (which I never did). I would be happy to tell more people except for some of the madly judgmental comments I've read on here over the last year or so!!!! (MJ is cheating, it's too easy, they'd be ashamed to be taking it, they'd be more proud to lose weight the "right" way and on and on.)

So in the words of our dear Queen....never complain, never explain!!!!

Xiaoxiong · 08/09/2024 15:33

And also... www.diabetes.org.uk/about-us/news-and-views/our-response-serious-supply-issues-drugs-people-living-type-2-diabetes

The supply issues relevant to diabetics don't apply to Mounjaro.

LoquaciousPineapple · 08/09/2024 15:49

My husband knows but I haven't told anyone else. I'm not really interested in what people would have to say about it. I might mention it if someone close to me was talking about wanting to lose weight themselves or considering starting them.

Aside from the obvious stigma and badmouthing people might do, I’m just not interested in the opinions of people who aren’t using them. I've done a lot of research so anyone not using the drugs (excepting specialist doctors) either knows the same as me or less about the health aspects. So what’s the point in discussing it with them?

Bethany83 · 08/09/2024 15:55

What is MJ please? A weightloss drug?

Gettingbysomehow · 08/09/2024 15:56

I told tell anyone anything they dont need to know.

Yes, Mounjaro, a weekly injection.

Well considering this is posted in the "Weight loss injections/treatments" section, what do you think?

Rorpethy · 08/09/2024 17:12

I've only told DH. Initially, I only told him because it's a large expense every month to not consult him about first. I glad I did tell him though as he's been very supportive. Also, if anything happened to me, I think it's good for someone to know I'm taking it. Plus, I would feel so guilty lying about it!

I will never tell another soul I've taken mj.

Princessandthepie · 09/09/2024 19:00

So seen quite a few people today that I haven't seen for ages over the summer school holidays and not a single word mentioned about my 17lbs weight loss!
😂🙈
So no awkward conversations whatsoever!

Not sure if I'm relieved or a tad upset no one has noticed 😂😂
