I'm thinking about trying Mounjaro, yeah or nay?

Hi all, I am about 5 stone overweight. I was told last year I was prediabetic but latest blood test has gone down so i'm not now (not sure how). I've always been overweight but this is the heaviest and i'm really feeling it. I like yoga and in some of the postures I find it difficult to breathe due to my weight. I've had really good success with WW in the past and it really works for me but the problem is will power. I got put on Sertraline 8 years ago for PMDD and it has been a miracle drug but it gave me the munchies big time. I decided that it was worth it to be fat and happy rather than suicidal and miserable for 2 weeks of the month. But now I snack all the time and think about food all the time. I am not feeling healthy at all, I sweat a lot and get really puffed out going on walks up hills.

Be honest, do you think Mounjaro would help me? I can afford the injections but don't want to waste money if it won't be suitable. I would love to hear your opinions.

Thanks in advance.

I so hear you about the swearing and puffing (and I have asthma to compound it!) and sorry to hear you are feeling crap.

The short answer is YES, Mounjaro can definitely help you! For most people, it switches of that 'food noise' quickly and completely and all desire to snack is gone. It is not without its side effects though and you need to check it is compatible with your other medications but, for me, it's been a miracle drug and I have lost just over a stone in the first 4 weeks (still got more than I care to think about to go but I am very happy!)

SuperBatFace · 17/07/2024 09:26

I was 5 stone overweight at the beginning of April. I'm now 1 stone overweight so mounjaro gets my vote!

Carelesswispalover · 17/07/2024 09:32

Yes from me. I've lost 2 stone in 12 weeks.
It's not always easy, I took my jab yesterday and today I feel freezing, exhausted and a bit nauseous, but it's worth it to have a better relationship with eating and actually see the scales go down.
Get yourself some electrolyte drinks, a really good multivitamin and I recommend aloe Vera and psyllium husk to keep you regular.
I also take high strength biotin for my hair as rapid weight loss can cause hair loss.
mounjaro has absolutely changed my life, I wish I could shout about it from the rooftop but I have only told my husband for fear of inevitable judgement from others!!

Thanks all, I think i might talk to my husband about it tonight. He struggles with his weight too but i know he'll think its a cop out and that I should just do it on my own. Could I do it alongside WW do you think? I know it works for me (when I stick to it)

Yes it will help. I have lost 9kg in 7 weeks so far.

ItsAlrightDarling · 17/07/2024 09:48

Yes you can absolutely do it alongside WW. You still need to eat well and in a calorie deficit on MJ, it just makes that a lot easier to do by suppressing your appetite and slowing your digestion, meaning you feel full for longer.

MJ will help you not to feel hungry, so you can do whatever eating own suits you best

I'm just doing CICO.

FlappyFish · 17/07/2024 11:13

I’m still taking setraline and I’ve also lost 4 stone taking MJ since mid-February. My BMI is now 22.

It’s a tool that is magic as you don’t have food noise. Don’t overeat. Won’t crave junk.

It’s not a cop out. Honestly, it’s changed my life.

spottydogsarethebest · 17/07/2024 12:26

Another vote to go for it. Was feeling exactly the same with BMI of 40. I'm 5 weeks in and 18lbs down already, I feel so much better. What have you got to lose? It's life changing. Good luck.

Gettingbysomehow · 17/07/2024 12:48

I'm starting it on 27th July (payday) I feel really excited about it. I have 5 stone to lose.I'm off work at the moment with terrible back pain so it's ideal if there are side effects.
No idea why I've suddenly switched to italics?

eedie135 · 17/07/2024 13:30

I've just done my first injection this morning. Will let you know how I get on!

outnumbered77 · 17/07/2024 13:47

Do you not have to stay on it long term though to keep the weight off? I'm considering surgery for that reason.

Not if you use the opportunity to overhaul your diet and lifestyle while taking the mediation and continue to follow those principles when you stop taking it.

ItsAlrightDarling · 17/07/2024 15:13

I mean, if you’re hoping to take the medication to get the weight off then go back to eating/living exactly as you were before when you come off it, it probably isn’t the right solution for you.

Ghilliedu · 17/07/2024 15:16

I say go for it! It’s absolutely not a cop out as you still need to put the work in and eat the right things - but MJ certainly makes that easier. I was also pretty sceptical at the start and thought I’d try 1 pen and see how I got on, now I’m 3 months in and almost 2 stone gone!

Callmejudith · 17/07/2024 15:19

Another vote for do it. It’s like magic. Just turns off the food noise.

I’m not worried about maintaining once I’m off it. I’ll be taking these new habits forward.

MulberryBushRoundabout · 17/07/2024 21:21

Worth knowing that there’s some concern around the interaction of Mounjaro and SSRIs - because it slows your gastric system it affects how your body absorbs the medication. So you may need to adjust your dosage.

No33 · 17/07/2024 21:32

Speak to your GP first.

MJ slows transit through your gut, so you'll need to look at your sertraline and how it may affect it.

MJ can also have a depressive/anxiety effect too, it certainly has for me. Which is also something to consider.

MJ can be really helpful for weightloss, but needs to be weighed up against other factors that it may affect.

penfold81 · 18/07/2024 13:14

Another code if it’s helpful to anyone (and it gives me 15% off my next pen too 😊)

my pen worked out around £122 using one of these codes think that’s the cheapest I found.

There’s no better gift than the gift of good health. So, we’re making it even easier to share it. Refer someone to ZAVA with your personal code, and we’ll give them 15% offtheir first order.

If anyone is looking at joining Voy (which is subscription based), here is a code for £85 off your first order. I get a discount on my next one if it is used. https://joinvoy.com/r/U-JEMB7cPnsU

I have found them to be very helpful so far and had a quick response when I asked for replacement needles due to messing up my first dose! 🤦‍♀️ They also offer a weight loss coach if you are looking for extra support.

TheShellBeach · 19/07/2024 10:53

It's definitely really helping me.

I absolutely hate that people use threads asking for support to push their codes.

It's predatory.
