Continuing Mounjaro... Thread 12

Please note: Mounjaro will only be be prescribed initially if your BMI is above 30 until you get to a healthy BMI of 23 to BMI 25

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after that a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. https://www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
https://medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

Some natural sources of protein:
https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein

https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

11 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), psylum husks(fibre for constipation), electrolytes.

12 - Drink lots of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

13 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

14 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
further reading about injection sites and the effects: https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

15 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

16 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

17 - Some of the places you can order from are:

Thanks so much @lurkylurk think I'm going to go for it. Will follow these threads!

For anyone ordering takeout from chain restaurants or going out for dinner I found this article from Prima magazine pretty useful. Obviously they're going by calories, not macros (or, especially for us!) lack of greasiness but there's usually a correlation there anyway!

It's from 2020 so a little out of date but a lot of those options are still on the menus at the respective restaurants/pubs. Most will have calories on the menus but having the better ones compiled saves a bit of searching!

Another good option if you have one near you is Itsu. Unfortunately I have absolutely none of these near me, just the local Chineses, Indians, Fish and chip shops etc. 😪

https://www.prima.co.uk/diet-and-health/healthy-living/a24661/healthiest-restaurant-choices/

These are the healthiest meals at your favourite chain restaurant

From Bella Italia to Nandos, these are the lowest calorie options - including pizza, pasta and steak!

Someone above mentioned something about using medexp to build up a few extra pens as they allow reordering after 2 weeks and this got me wondering. Do any other pharmacies allow reordering early on? Like I've just ordered from zava (after moving from medexp) so are they funny about ordering early or would I be ok to order after the second injection like ME?

I'm enjoying being on MJ so much that I'm now beginning to feel concerned about coming off of it.
I don't want to go back to feeling how I used to feel before I started this. I love feeling how I feel on MJ. I want it to stay like this long term, regardless of my BMI. Even if this wasn't a weight loss tool, I'd take it purely to feel this physically and mentally well.

I hear you. A lot of us feel like this.

Thanks for the new thread Obsidian and welcome back.

For the past couple of days I've been getting quite dizzy when I stand up, what's that likely to be about, anyone? Blood pressure?

I vaguely remember it happening a thing a few years ago but I didn't get around to mentioning it to my GP and then it went away.

I'm eating and drinking enough.

MeAndMounjaro · 06/06/2024 23:34

NSVs I've been meaning to share

  • rising easily out of the bath
  • Painting my toe nails sat on the edge of bed and leaning right down to them on the floor
  • feeling like I have room around me and not bunched up when I cross my legs
DesparatePragmatist · 06/06/2024 23:38

There you all are! Came on to say thanks for the new thread and it's P6 already!

Wore my most forgiving trousers today. These were the old faithful slightly stretchy navy blue ones that I can wear with any top and jacket and look office-day presentable. When I started taking MJ they had got to max stretch and were on the edge of completely unsuitable. Today, 5 weeks in, they were loose! Not just comfortable again, but baggy round the bum and won't be wearable much longer. Yessss!

Hi all, just catching up & reporting from Day 2 of holiday trenches. Goal is to return having gained no weight. So I took my second 3.75 dose a day early, morning of flight. I skipped in flight lunch and drank no booze ( I have found sobriety is your friend if you want to avoid jet lag) weirdly, I had continuous food noise, but I toughed it out. Day 2 early start, and had a v nice breakfast ( huevos rancheros, we are in Mexico.) All well, but the heat starts getting to me. We are on the lookout for spider monkeys & I start feeling really unwell & nauseous. Had to slow right down. Eventually I jumped in a cenote, a kind of natural well, (that’s a whole other story) which got my temp right down. It is now 7 pm, I am not remotely hungry & my partner is going to want to eat something soon. I suppose I could get some fruit juice?
I think my midday woes were a combo of heat & MJ (it does knock me out)
I would like a margarita at some point - just one!

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 07/06/2024 02:12

I received a birthday voucher from Med express a couple of days ago specifically for Mounjaro. Surprise surprise, it doesn't work 🤨

I've emailed to ask why their code doesn't work on what they've said it is supposed to be for, and asked them to provide a quick response so that I have time to find another supplier if they won't honour the code, given that they are more expensive than their competitors.
Will wait and see what BS answer they provide.

I love Mexico. Hope you have a great time 😁 went there a few years ago and also went to a cenote which was lovely. It is so hot there for sure! I just sweated the whole time and couldn't regulate my body temperature at all. Might be different now on mj! Hope you get used to the heat

Enjoy your holiday 😊

@DietStartsM0NDAY I was the poster who got 3 pens from Bolt 1x2.5 and 2x5 (7.5 wasn't out at the time) but it was only partially successful. After the first 5 I felt I needed to go up to 7.5 so got through the second 5mg pen quicker than I should have done which made it more expensive. Given how everyone's progress through the numbers seems so different it would be a challenge to know what to buy. I may need to do it again but would go for the max doses available as you can always take partial doses. Let us know if you find a supplier who accepts your circumstances

I’m really struggling with constipation! I’ve never really suffered before and normally go everyday but I haven’t been for 4 days now and that was with dulcolax (which gave awful cramps). I’m drinking loads of water and have taken fybogel AM/PM for the last 2 days as well as a tbs of olive oil. Neither seem to help and I feel gross! I take magnesium every day already.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Psyllium husks keep me regular. I but them in tablet form. Take 2 a day and I have no problems

I've hit my first stall. No loss for the past week. I'm going into second week of 5mg and have lost 13lbs total so far which I'm really pleased with and know I'm not on the therapeutic dose yet...so why do our brains tell us when we stall that this is it, it's stopped working for me, I'm not going to get any further and I may as well just eat shit!
Argh it's so annoying as my logical sensible brain knows it's all part of the process and that weight loss isn't linear...it's just really bloody annoying!
Will dose tonight to try and keep me on track over the weekend 🤞🏻

Buffypaws · 07/06/2024 06:52

I am also scared off coming off MJ. I gained so much coming off Saxenda. It didn’t work though so I only lost about a stone and went back on really easily.

NextPrimeMinister · 07/06/2024 07:26

Morning all, reporting in for my weekly update. 1lb off, 36lb in total. (Week 15).

SW 13.12
CW 11.04

I can't quite believe it's still working! I could start with a 10 by July!!!!

I really hope 'they' come up with a maintenance plan soon. 🙏

RunningAndSinging · 07/06/2024 07:28

One If the great things about Mounjaro is that it does stop emotional eating and ‘Sod it’ binges. You just don’t fancy the bad stuff or at least not much of it.

I was driving last night and stopped at a motorway service station for supper. Usually there would have been so many temptations and actually I was hungry and a chocolate bar did cross my mind. However I absolutely did not fancy a burger or a panini etc that I usually would have had in those circumstances and just wanted a salad/poke bowl and an apple from M&S. I resisted the chocolate, ate the healthy food and after that wouldn’t have wanted the chocolate.

All these small decisions and increased ability to resist the few temptations that remain add up.
