Please note: Mounjaro will only be be prescribed initially if your BMI is above 30 until you get to a healthy BMI of 23 to BMI 25

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after that a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. https://www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
https://medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

Some natural sources of protein:
https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein

https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

11 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), psylum husks(fibre for constipation), electrolytes.

12 - Drink lots of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

13 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

14 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
further reading about injection sites and the effects: https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

15 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

16 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

17 - Some of the places you can order from are:

I've had reduced sociability too! But you've just made it click why!

I am struggling with the lack of dopamine from food etc, and feeling flat too. But as you say, this is temporary while I sort my body out.

Mmm hmmm. I am super flat this week. I sort of expected it to hit at some point.

I'm tired, working 4/5 jobs, weather is awful, client is demanding, NHS (one of my jobs) is utterly fucked, 10 day stall in weight loss and I think I might not be being a great mum this week as i've stopped cooking, and cooking is pretty important to kids. So I need to get back on that horse.

I want to lie on the sofa & watch Bridgerton. Instead I have to re-draft a report, then go to work, then go to an exhibition, then go to a fashion show. God. Roll on Saturday.

Oh, and, I tried on all the Oliver Bonas clothes & my husband was like 'meh' so that was great. I don't rely on him for sartorial advice - ever - he is usually super into what I wear. Hum.

Hello all

Week 2 here

So far so good

Can I ask if you managed 5 doses per pen?
Also if I switch to a different provider how do I up my dose?
Currently with voy

Thanks all

I got my 2.5 from Voy and then changed to Oushk Pharmacy. I had to send photos of my 2.5 and they were happy to give me 5.

Mencia · 13/06/2024 09:56

I’ve stalled after 9 weeks, bonus dose of 5mg due tomorrow. I’m pretty low atm because I would have wanted to be 1.5-2kg below my current weight as of this weekend as I’m off to stay with my mum next week and my current calorie intake will be difficult to achieve. On top of that I have friends coming from abroad the following week and will have to be out dining with them. I really wanted a lower weight to avoid going back to the 80s after these two weeks of less control on what I eat, but it’s not going to be possible. It’s not that I wanted a much lower weight by now (I just wanted to follow the same pattern of 0.5-0.75kg by week), it’s that the current stall is going to make me go backwards if I don’t starve myself and I don’t want to do that!

LatinaLondon · 13/06/2024 09:56

Great that you managed your weight so well during your holidays to Poland!
My mother in law has this one:
https://amzn.to/3yZlZBz
My husband bought it for her almost a year ago and she still loves it. She said it is comfy to walk on it, not noisy like other ones and has big clear numbers, her best friend bought the same one. Oh I also heard her say it has a security clip that attaches to her clothes just in case of an emergency she just can pull the cord and the machine stops.

I am so silly! This is going to be harder than I thought.
End of week 2 and I have binged. I was doing so well as well.
I don't feem surpressed or full at all. I need will power of which I have none. 😭

Don’t see it as a failure, the suppression effect wears off towards the end of your week. Pick yourself up, have your next injection and continue. Have some healthy snacks ready and available for when you have cravings.

susiedaisy1912 · 13/06/2024 10:19

Arrrh. Second week of moving up to 5mg and boy have I been ill. Vomiting, stomach pain and the runs every single time I try to eat. I'm exhausted as I can't keep anything down. Did my jab on Sunday afternoon and it started Monday afternoon. I'm currently sat in bed on my day off wondering what the heck to do as I can't eat anything 🤷🏻‍♀️. I suppose I've just got to wait for it to wear off. ?

LatinaLondon · 13/06/2024 10:38

I find it so interesting all the comments about being a bit off/flat.
I’ve been feeling like that for a while but couldn’t put my finger on it.
I’m always pleasantly surprised when people with depression, anxiety, adhd, etc write that they feel good, calmer, more focus etc and wonder what this drug then does to those of us who don’t suffer from any of those conditions … Even calmer? More zen?
I guess so because I’m feeling “so calm” that some days it feels hard to find motivation to do simple things.
I’m “so zen” that I just can’t bring myself to stand up and exercise when I really have to!
Funny enough the days I feel motivated to do more things is towards the end of my dose.
Maybe it is my body adjusting to the new weight, maybe need a bit more sugar and to start taking some vitamins.
Btw I do feel happy that I’m losing weight, I’m not depressed but definitely I’m not as upbeat as before.

I've just been shortlisted for a design award! Very glad I've done MJ now, I can actually fit into some of my lovely dresses. Its in a month so hopefully I will have a decent choice by then.

Well done! Amazing news! Good luck

I’m 7 days past my bonus dose of the 7.5mg pen and I can’t face taking another dose. The effect is soooo strong I’m struggling to eat, don’t feel hungry and have a constant lump in my throat. I’m drinking lots of water.

What’s that about?!! It’s week 15 and I’ve not had any significant side effects before… I do think I have a virus as I’m quite snotty. I can’t contemplate another dose and even stronger appetite suppressant - it’s just too much

Did you get 80ml from the bonus dose of the 7.5mg pen? That's what I got and it's actually 10mg. It floored me also!

I am going to stick to 7.5mg for now!

Does anyone have a coupon for MedExpress (I’m up to 10mg now) or, failing that, a referral code so that I can get it somewhere else for less than £189?

pinktransit · 13/06/2024 11:09

12th jab (I think!) taken today.
I can't weigh in as I'm not at home, and I'm finding that quite difficult.

Motivation is definitely lacking when I can't see numbers going down. I'm still eating well, but not logging food as I'm not cooking or weighing it. Mum does have a healthy and mostly vegan diet, so I'm pretty sure I'm within my usual calorie count but it's hard not actually knowing.

Medexpress are sending many emails, telling me it's time to order. I'm only 4 weeks since my last delivery, so within the 6 weeks. I daren't order until tomorrow in case it arrives before I'm home.

I think I might order a 7.5mg, after 2 x 5mg pens. And maybe try Zava too, to see if they will accept me. I am (I think) just under BMI 30, so if I have to show a picture of me on scales may have to wear a heavy pair of jeans :D

Wonkypictureframe · 13/06/2024 11:12

I’ve been meaning to say that I contacted MedExpress like lots of you and got sent a code that didn’t work, and when I asked about it, they gave me £25 credit. So I’ve just ordered a 7.5mg with that. I’ve got 10mg from Pharmacy2U to start in a couple of weeks, and am hoping that prices will have come down a bit in a month.

Abigailandthefoxes · 13/06/2024 11:16

Today is my first dose of 5mg and I’m nervous to take it in case of side effects.

SW: 13 stone 10
CW: 12 stone 7

very happy with that.

Time4changeagain · 13/06/2024 11:29

Has anyone got any tips for toning up (everywhere) when mobility is a big issue?.
I’m only a couple of weeks in but already starting to worry about excess skin…
I know the weight loss will be massively beneficial to my health but I can’t help worrying 😕

PlantyPotts · 13/06/2024 11:48

I'm 4 days in. I'm not sure if I have appetite suppression or it's because I'm so scared of the symptoms associated with lack of fibre and protein that I have a breakfast chock full of both and, shockingly, this keeps me full in a way that my 2 slices of toast didn't 🤣

FlappyFish · 13/06/2024 12:04

It’s weigh day. Honestly, I am over it after last week’s scare. But in the interests of keeping honest I have gained 4lbs in a week. I’m well aware it’s carb bloat, etc etc. 11.3.

And I am ok with it. Chasing a number after a certain point wasn’t helping me. I know I will go back down, but I had to get through that mental block and realise not everything is about hitting a magic number.

montysma1 · 13/06/2024 12:11

So I hit BMI 23.9 today.

I should be happy but its more to do with an issue at work( my own fault). Very very stressed and unable to eat anything. Living on one cuppa soup. This isn't MJ its stress and I can't keep going like this.
Thinking I shouldn't dose tomo as I already can't eat.

I should be feeling really chuffed today😳

Snozzlemaid · 13/06/2024 12:11

Just had my 5mg pen delivered from Zava. Very easy to move over to ordering from them from Medical express.
Zava have provided 7 needles which is better than MedEx. But no swabs so I'll order some from somewhere else.

If anyone needs a wants a 15% off code for Zava REFWUSZ8

RunningAndSinging · 13/06/2024 12:17

I have stuck with Bolt for now and their prices have come down a bit this month. Now £179 for 10 mg but the are charging a bit of postage (£3.90) which they weren’t before. I probably ought to shop around but the reorder process is so simple with them.

montysma1 · 13/06/2024 12:19

I tried Curate for my 12.5mg, £170 with a code.
Not sure how they compare on the lower doses but certainly the cheapest I could find for 12.5.

Seemed to be straight forward, assessed approved and apparently now dispatched.
Will update when I actually have it in my paws.

That's actually a good price for 10mg. Zava and med express is £189 still.

That's good that they have come down. Hope that means the prices are coming down for the meds generally.

That's a good price. Did you 'massage' your numbers a little or are they willing to prescribe at BMIs under 25?

If they are as cheap as ZAVA with a code and willing to prescribe at low BMIs they are definitely worth considering!
