Please note: Mounjaro will only be be prescribed initially if your BMI is above 30 until you get to a healthy BMI of 23 to BMI 25

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after that a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. https://www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
https://medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

Some natural sources of protein:
https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein

https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

11 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), psylum husks(fibre for constipation), electrolytes.

12 - Drink lots of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

13 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

14 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
further reading about injection sites and the effects: https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

15 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

16 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

@NC543210 @AgathaMystery I'm in a stall too. Up another 0.3kg yesterday have been bouncing around just above 89kg for what feels like forever. The 'f*ck it' feeling is strong, I am trying to have faith in the process and keep believing that there is more weightloss to come.
But it hard when I see others with lower starting weights celebrating losing 2 or more stones in less time than I've been on MJ - I know we shouldn't compare but it's so hard not to. Please don't think I don't want people to share their successes - they absolutely should, it's great to see and my envy doesn't lessen their achievements in any way - but I've promised myself I'm going to be completely honest and that includes parts of me that are less pretty, such as envy of others. I need to own and not eat my feelings if I'm going to figure out how to make this weightloss a success in the long term.

Amen. I think, at this rate, I shall weight 79kg for the rest of my life!!!

Stickthatupyourdojo · 10/06/2024 16:29

Bugger! Back to medexpress with my tail between my legs then!

(For info the message Zava sent me references the healthy BMI range, but mine is still overweight at 26).

@Youdontevengohere it doesn’t let me set a safe place or anything yet. And I live in a bloc of flats, there isn’t a porch… plus, isn’t it signed for?
I just don’t get it - it says on their website orders made by 4 pm will be delivered next day. So doesn’t it go to show that after 4 pm should be the day after then?? Such a discrepancy in service. If anything I would have thought my first order would have taken longer until they “approve” and review everything…

NiceUnusualDifferent · 10/06/2024 16:32

Hi everyone!

Day 3 of week 1. Injected Saturday morning and had appetite suppression within a couple of hours, no food noise and getting full very quickly so all good.

Just had to come home from work early as I've suddenly got the 💩 didn't sleep very well last night either. So Sat feeling sorry for myself. Fingers crossed passes and ive ordered some immodiium instants to keep in my bag too.

Snozzlemaid · 10/06/2024 16:34

@Cheeseismyfavourite Thanks for the zava code.

Here's a code for zava if can be of use to anyone: Use my code and you’ll get 15% off your first order at ZAVA: REFWUSZ8

NC543210 · 10/06/2024 16:37

@Everdecreasingcircumferences @AgathaMystery and me just bouncing around (literally) between 98 and 99kg! Haha. Cry.
This upcoming whoosh best be a good one.

NC543210 · 10/06/2024 16:44

@MJqueen

Yes I'm really mindful over making sure I'm getting enough protein. I'm veggie too so I've always been kind of aware that I didn't have anywhere near enough.

I make sure I have protein in my food but also supplement it with protein water and a protein shake as its hard to hit the numbers I need without eating meat.
Water I'm really good at work and have around 3l but when at home I don't hit that all.
I've just filled my bottle up which holds 1.8 so going to make sure I finish it and then some.

Exercise I don't do specific gym/classes.
But I have a very physical job with lots of heavy lifting and average 10k steps a day.

I used to gave pcos and probably still do to a degree and I do wonder if its maybe a factor in why I was so big and why its coming off at a snails pace. I say that but the first 9kg came off in 6 weeks and then just stopped. I have loads to lose.

imnottoofussed · 10/06/2024 16:56

@3wDavid I expect Saturday isn't a working day so they have only processed your order today maybe? If you order before 4 on a Friday they are there to process the order.

When you get the text off Royal Mail to say it's out for delivery see if it lets you choose some other option for delivery, I can't remember what it offers at that point other than safe place or neighbour

Soukmyfalafel · 10/06/2024 17:10

Afternoon all. See there we have our own section now!

Just a quick question to anyone who has got 7.5mg off Med Ex recently - what expiry date did you get? I ripped off my last one.

Soukmyfalafel · 10/06/2024 17:13

Thanks @KeepingUndercover . Same as the 10mg. Just wondered as I'm getting one to titrate down when I reach target, so don't want it to just have a month left on it.

Mine said ‘not signed for’, but that probably doesn’t help if you haven’t got anywhere safe for it to be left! Do you have a nice neighbour who could take it in? I think once they’ve sent the email with the delivery estimate it gives you the opportunity to select a place/leave it with a neighbour etc.
I think your order probably wasn’t processed until today as Saturday isn’t a working day, that’s why it’s not coming until tomorrow.

BlackFriYay · 10/06/2024 17:48

I took my third dose from my second 5mg pen this morning, I'm bloody hungry today and have felt similarly over the past couple of jabs.

Bizarrely, I feel hungrier in the first couple of days of the injection than I do towards the end of the week when it's wearing off.

That said, I'm losing weight regardless as I'm being disciplined with what I eat. I would love to have some suppression back though as it makes everything so much easier. I have a 7.5mg lined up ready to start soon so hopefully that brings it back.

Has anybody heard from @MelissaLouRocks ? I haven't seen her post for a while. I recall she had a trip to Poland upcoming so hopefully that explains the quietness. I'm just hoping she isn't back in hospital.

Hi Melissa if you see this! Hope you're doing ok 🙂

ObsidianTree · 10/06/2024 17:54

@BlackFriYay I haven't seen her on for a while. I think the weekend gone was meant to be her poland trip.

Hope she's ok and managed to get to Poland

It’s not bizarre - it’s because the drug takes 72hrs to reach full efficacy. So I inject on a Friday night and by Tuesday have full suppression.

AgathaMystery · 10/06/2024 18:01

Also - does anyone know what BMI Zava will prescribe down to?

That makes sense!

When I started on the 2.5's my appetite would be suppressed within a couple of hours but I appreciate that's likely not the norm. I do miss it 😂

Same!! The placebo effect is STRONG

3wDavid · 10/06/2024 18:16

Finally got an email that it will arrive tomorrow, and I could select Collect option, so it will go to the post office down the road and I’ll just pick it up. This makes me feel better, as I can pop tomorrow, they’re open until like 5.30 pm, so it’s easy to do!

AccidentallyWesAnderson · 10/06/2024 18:18

How easy was it to move from MedExpress to Zava for anyone who has done so?

I'm moving up to 10mg and Zava works out cheaper with a code from here. I was asked to provide a form of ID but nothing since and that was earlier today.

Wonkypictureframe · 10/06/2024 18:19

It looks like Zava have been refusing quite a lot of people with BMIs under 30.

Wonkypictureframe · 10/06/2024 18:29

I got my 10mg from Pharmacy2U with no trouble at all with a BMI of 27 (but with arthritis which may count as a comorbidity). The cost is £189 and they seem to have a few potential codes knocking around.

It usually gives you the option to have it delivered to a local post office branch. Though whether they actually do it is another matter. I've asked for this twice because I wasn't going to be home but they ended up leaving it in my blue bin both times. Saved me messing around but a bit gross but thankfully it is well wrapped up!! Hope you manage to get it sorted @3wDavid x

DDisnotnormal · 10/06/2024 18:42

@3wDavid I've read on and can see you've chosen to get it sent to the post office!! Hopefully it should all be sorted now. I changed the drop off location on the day it was out so it may not have got to the post man before he delivered it and put it in my blue bin x
