Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

MedExpress 2.5mg and 5mg. £149.99. 7.5mg £169. Use code STARTNOW. Ask for other codes if that doesn't work.
The Family Chemist 2.5mg and 5mg -£149. 7.5mg £169.
Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 5mg
Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. 7.5mg £189
Asda 2.5mg and 5mg £184. 7.5mg £189
Boots £219 +
Chemist4U £179 +
Superdrugs

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

Anyone have any codes for 5mg on medexpress?

Was gonna order tonight but thought I'd ask first!

Choux · 13/05/2024 22:53

montysma1 · 13/05/2024 14:54

CONSULT-BLOOM is giving me 15% off of 10mg at Med Express.

Anybody know of any better ones?

Med express code

Choux · 13/05/2024 22:56

I believe codes work for all doses although some might be for existing customers only. And different ones for new customers.

@Stickthatupyourdojo you and I must have had the same thought re the name...hence my username.

I've still not lost anything over the past 10 or so days so I'm changing injection site as studies seem to show that making a change really does have an impact. Will report back if it makes any discernable difference.

Just out of curiosity, where have you been injecting? I've also been wondering about this.

Has anyone who has done research come across anything to say if higher doses have any sort of metabolic effect?

With it being said that people don't always lose at 2.5mg and 5mg and now even 7m5mg, if I have appetite suppression at 5mg and am able to stick to a good amount of calories would there be any further weight loss from being on 7.5mg other than being able to eat even less (which wouldn't be healthy right now as my cals and protein are already a struggle!

In an earlier thread there is a link to a video where an obesity expert explains in some detail how these drugs work. The overwhelming effect is a reduction in appetite. You eat less, you lose weight. WL also seems to target visceral fat. The drugs don’t speed up your metabolism (eg unlike amphetamines). Some people (eg, me) get sufficient appetite suppression at low doses, some people need higher doses to get appetite suppression. It doesn’t work at all for some people & side effects too severe on others. Take your pick.
I would suggest if appetite suppression is weakening, go up a dose, if not weakening, stay on a lower dose.
one of the main reasons I am staying as low as possible is because I think it will be easier to taper off & maintain once I reach goal.

lurkylurk · 14/05/2024 01:46

@Rainbowl

I would order the 7.5mg if I were you. Be aware that teh expiry date on the 5mg is end of June and there has been no change on this as there was with the 2.5mg (may still be but who knows!)

If you order the 7.5mg but then find you want to stay on 5mg when the time comes you can always have 5mg doses from it instead but you will have the option.

@Moanranger

While I don't disagree about the reasons to stay on as low a dose as possible I do think it depends on how much weight you need to lose and how long you are planning and can afford to take it, as studies show that weight loss ends around 68 weeks no matter what dose you were on!

Definitely seems promising. Hopefully the UK takes note and removes the 2 year limit of all weight loss drugs.

I was reading something yesterday that said you're more likely to maintain your weight loss if you titrate down gradually until off the drugs, so think we should all aim to do this and build up a few pens for when our providers decide to cut us off!

@MelissaLouRocks usually my leg, alternating from one to the other. Moved to stomach.

I believe the Eli Lilly trials showed that different sites have different effects and it varies from person to person. And sometimes just changing things up gives you a boost. I'll try and dig out the info.

Can report it seems to work though!! Changed location on Saturday. Today I'm down 2lbs. Or at least it's a coincidence. Am baffled.

@BlackFriYay I've decided to stay at 5mg but ordered the 7.5 and counted 40 clicks to give a 5mg dose. That gives me some leeway if I feel I need to move up after a week or two.

5mg is working well with me eating small balanced meals. I do feel hungry but at a sensible level which I think is important and preferable to struggling to eat. I have just under a stone to go and think it will be an easier transition if I learn to manage it myself

Hi, sorry for the ignorance- I try to only dip in and out of the thread although I've been here since the beginning otherwise my weight loss becomes all too consuming (I try to keep it in the background) but what is the clicks mentioned ? I've moved upto 7.5mg but no success , I've gone from ravenously hungry to always on the loo and nausea so feel the 5mg worked better weirdly and was a more sustainable weight loss pen for me and I'm also off on holiday the weekend for two weeks , I have two doses left in the 7.5mg not including the bonus dose, could I eek it out to 3 x5mg and then the extra dose? X

colleysmill · 14/05/2024 06:41

Good morning. Hoping I may join the thread.

Been lurking and reading and initially was unsure but last week I hit an all time low so took the plunge! 1st pen of 2.5mg arrives today!

Morning all.
@ObsidianTree @Choux thanks so much for linking these studies and reports. Really interesting how much data is coming out and all very positive.

The European obesity meeting in Venice must be buzzing ATM.

Im doing well so far. Just taken my 4th 2.5 mg MJ 1 day early as felt it had worn off yesterday. I think I will go up next week to 3.75mgs ( hopefully using the bonus dose ) rather than 5mgs. No significant adverse side effects and good appetite suppression , but still able to eat healthy stuff and small portions of normal meals. No urge to snack or reward myself with food. Energy levels good and still exercising. No loss this week but have lost total of 5.9 kgs since starting and clothes feeling looser.

Yes you could. When you wind the pen each little notch clicks. 40 clicks is 2/3 of a dose so 5mg.

colleysmill · 14/05/2024 07:39

Thank you. I'm nervous but excited mixed in with a bit of shame that ive let myself get back to this point but new start today!

RunningAndSinging · 14/05/2024 07:55

The newspapers are reporting great results from retatrutide which is a new Eli Lily drug which also affects how much energy you burn. Its is free to read in The Mail if you can bear to click the link to them. Also behind paywalls in the Times and Telegraph.

'Godzilla' slimming jab is even better than Ozempic

Trials of the drug - dubbed the 'Godzilla' of appetite-suppressing medicines - helped people lose an average of 24 per cent of their body weight in less than a year.

Scalessayeek · 14/05/2024 08:17

Thanks for thread nine @ObsidianTree

So it's the end of week 11 (I thought it was 12!) I'm off on holiday for 10 days all inclusive and really wanted to make 3 stones. It's my TOTM and I'm 0.4lb off 🤪 so I'll count that as a win.

So it's 41.6lbs off for me. Started at 21st 4.4 and once I hit another 8.5 pounds I'll be my lockdown weight. Eventual (minimum) goal weight is 14st 10, not been that since I was about 13.

R4ch402 · 14/05/2024 08:22

@Scalessayeek Well Done! An amazing loss already.

I've just came back from a week all inclusive and thought I blew it and when returned I had still lost 2lbs that week. Enjoy your holiday x

Wonkypictureframe · 14/05/2024 08:25

Hurray!

You know, it strikes me that medicine in this area is moving so fast that probably a lot of things people are worrying about on here, around the two year limit and maintenance dosing, are likely to be resolved fairly fast. It might not be in time for some of the people doing so well on here right now but I reckon well within two years we’ll either have or see coming soon the pills, better meds, easier meds to use.

Scalessayeek · 14/05/2024 08:48

Oh wow! That's amazing- well done you!

My problem is I don't normally drink and I've not been eating carbs. Fully expecting to come back with 7lbs extra but I'm sure it'll come off super quick again being mostly water weight!

QuiltedHippo · 14/05/2024 08:56

Very interesting @RunningAndSinging

Weigh in today and 2lbs off after 5 x 2.5mg, 1 full stone lost. BMI now 29.7!
