Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

MedExpress 2.5mg and 5mg. £149.99. 7.5mg £169. Use code STARTNOW. Ask for other codes if that doesn't work.
The Family Chemist 2.5mg and 5mg -£149. 7.5mg £169.
Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 5mg
Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. 7.5mg £189
Asda 2.5mg and 5mg £184. 7.5mg £189
Boots £219 +
Chemist4U £179 +
Superdrugs

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

Thanks for the new thread Obsidian!

Week 8 (5mg) third(?) injection, i think. I've lost count.

Is anybody else considering staying on 5mg for as long as possible?

I have a new 5 in the fridge to start once this one is finished and I'm hoping I'll be able to stay on this for a while. I've had a week of brilliant appetite suppression after a week of none at all (injecting in the arm to test out that spot did absolutely nothing for me in terms of loss or suppression) so providing I start losing again, after a couple of weeks with none, I'd like to stay on this dose.

As of 2 weeks ago my total loss was over 1.5 stone which I think is fab for 6-7 weeks isn't it?

It's weigh in day today but I'm holding off a couple of days until my period finishes as I always drop a couple of pounds at the end of the cycle.

I plan on staying on 5 for as long as I can before it stops working for me. I've done 6 doses so far at 5mg and I'm happy with the reaults and the minimal side effects so far. I have a lot to lose - I'm 2st 5lb down in 9 weeks but have another 4.5 - 5st to go so I want to have options later in the journey.

thehousewiththesagegreensofa · 13/05/2024 18:42

I've needed this thread today.
Weigh in this morning and am down a pound on last week which is a total of three pounds in three weeks... but 2lbs heavier than I was on Thursday and heavier than I was hoping to be by this stage.
About three weeks in is a typical time for me to get bored on a diet so I need to just keep plodding on with it for once. That would be easier if this was suppressing my appetite in any way! Actually, it must be having some impact as I'm not getting ravenously hungry but I definitely want to eat on a regular basis.
I've also got to have a re-think about exercise. I like to think I do quite a lot of exercise but chatting with colleagues at work today and they'd all done a couple of long runs or bike rides at the weekend, so an hour plus of intense cardio when I did one 25 min run and spent a lot of time sat in a chair reading! I also need to up the water again. I was drinking 2+ litres a day but for the past few days I've probably only had a litre. All of this matters

dmott · 13/05/2024 19:00

I've not had much appetite suppression this week and have just started my period which explains why I've been hungrier.

Rainbowl · 13/05/2024 19:33

@BlackFriYay I’ve only had two doses of 5mg so far and I’m due my next one tomorrow so I’ll need to order a new pen soon but I’m really not sure whether to stick with it or move up. It’s working fine but I wouldn’t say I have full appetite suppression or zero food noise. Part of me thinks sticking at 5mg is the better thing to do as I will lose weight slower and learn to manage normal feelings of hunger and cravings and that’s more sustainable in the long run, but I’m impatient and would love to see if 7.5mg brings faster weight loss 🙈

April88 · 13/05/2024 19:45

Week 11 for me and I’ve lost 3 lbs, total of 29lb on MJ, 54lb in total since November. 2nd dose of 7.5mg today. No side effects really, I feel like it’s not affecting my appetite as much as I’d like but I’ll keep bumbling along.

Very pleased to be overweight not obese! I’ve got some before and afters but I’m in my underwear so maybe best to not share 😂

I know what you mean. I'm generally so impatient, probably due to my ADHD, and have had to fight against it to make, what feels like for me, the right decision.

I think total appetite suppression can be counter productive as I've noticed that on weeks where I've ate less, I've lost less or nothing. My best losses have come from the weeks where I've met my protein goal every day (MFP sets it to 60g but I try to hit 80-100), so having some but not total suppression seems to be my sweet spot.

If you're still undecided you could order a 7.5 after your next dose and see how you feel when the time comes to have your first dose of the pen, as you could easily count clicks to stay at 5 should you want to do that 🙂

guestusername · 13/05/2024 20:15

I realised at 6pm that I’d only eaten two slices of toast all day so jazzed up my planned chicken breast and salad with a slice of bread and now I’m super stuffed. I was going to have a small kitkat to up my calories for the day but there’s no room for it

ihatecoffee · 13/05/2024 20:19

Been a bit quiet as I've been at work the last week or so (I'm cabin crew so am away a lot)

Someone said to me today I looked different. Had I lost weight? 🥳

That made me feel so good! My uniform skirt is looser on me now and is a normal fit (if not a bit loose around the waist)

I should have taken my ssecond 0.5 jab two days ago but forgot to pack it so am just about to take it!

Pigriver · 13/05/2024 20:27

@BlackFriYay I've decided to stay at 5mg but ordered the 7.5 and counted 40 clicks to give a 5mg dose. That gives me some leeway if I feel I need to move up after a week or two.

5mg is working well with me eating small balanced meals. I do feel hungry but at a sensible level which I think is important and preferable to struggling to eat. I have just under a stone to go and think it will be an easier transition if I learn to manage it myself

youngestisapsycho · 13/05/2024 20:46

I had 4th dose from my first ever pen of 2.5 but feel like it’s not working anymore… I took the bonus 5th dose out of it on Saturday and all I’ve done since is eat! When I first started the pen I was feeling full very quickly after eating and not feeling hungry much. I have a new 5mg pen in the fridge ready to start. Can I take tonight or do I need to wait till Saturday?

youngestisapsycho · 13/05/2024 20:46

And what does counting clicks mean?!

RunningAndSinging · 13/05/2024 20:50

youngestisapsycho · 13/05/2024 20:46

And what does counting clicks mean?!

As you twist the pen it clicks 60 times. If you only twist it 30 clicks for example you get half a dose.

It’s probably not wise to add your first 5mg in two days after a 2.5mg. But you can move the day forward a bit. Probably best to wait until at least Thursday.

dmott · 13/05/2024 20:53

Has anyone got anytips for jaw clenching ?

MrsBurtMacklin · 13/05/2024 20:58

@BlackFriYay I'm staying on 5mg as long as possible too. I've had 3 doses so far, and this time the side effects aren't as bad as the first two, but they're still not great. I hate feeling sick for half a week after injecting and the suppression is crazy - today I've only managed some yoghurt, a couple of bites of chicken and some broccoli and some clear whey. Not enough, but it's literally all I can manage.

I'm a bit reassured by the side effects gradually improving, but I've no plans to move up any time soon. My 2nd 5mg is chilling in the fridge.

LatinaLondon · 13/05/2024 21:04

Hello ladies. Weight day for me and this week I lost 600 grams again. Not great but not bad. I’ve converted everything to lbs as that makes it look better 😄

I inject but don’t feel a big difference in terms of suppression, I trust and know it is there and now I’ll stop messing with extending the days I’m sure it will build up in my body again.
There is a blurry line where I don’t know if MJ is really helping me or is it just me controlling myself. I guess it is a combination of both.
Actually I do feel it is just not on the way it was the first weeks which I guess is normal.
I injected my 10th dose today and that’s the end of my second pen.
Got my first 5mg pen ready for next week and will continue to inject 2.5mg

Well done for everyone's weight losses today. Big, small and maintained 😊

Congrats everyone on their losses today. 🎉

Me, I put on another pound and half today, yay me. 😕

But.... I'm out of bed today, got my physio done (which I haven't the last few days), managed a little bit of training with the dog, and as a bonus I've not cried today.

Other than weight, there's so many positives with MJ that I'm trying to adjust my thinking a bit. Here's hoping. 🙏

MeAndMounjaro · 13/05/2024 21:56

Has anyone who has done research come across anything to say if higher doses have any sort of metabolic effect?

With it being said that people don't always lose at 2.5mg and 5mg and now even 7m5mg, if I have appetite suppression at 5mg and am able to stick to a good amount of calories would there be any further weight loss from being on 7.5mg other than being able to eat even less (which wouldn't be healthy right now as my cals and protein are already a struggle!

MoreThanJustANumber · 13/05/2024 21:57

Thanks for the new thread, @ObsidianTree
I'm one of the slow losers in the group and have had hardly any side effects.
I did have a few burps, but didn't really know what you were meaning when you all talked about 'sulphur burps'... until the last few days, since I started on 7.5mg. Ugh! 🤑
I'm hoping that will mean it's working more and might speed up my weightloss a bit. I know slow and steady is good but I'd like a little whoosh every now and again. 😄

QuiltedHippo · 13/05/2024 22:34

Happy new thread!

1st dose from 5mg and I took 3mg, would have gone 3.75 to go halfway between the doses but I feel ill anyway- aches, sore throat etc, so going gentle.

Had botox today too so feeling very jabbed out.

Goals - hopefully next weigh in I'll no longer be obese.
Then would love to be in the 12s for my holiday in June.
And a work trip involving swimwear in front of colleagues (terrifying!!!!) is now in my diary for autumn so the 11s would be lovely.
