Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

MedExpress 2.5mg and 5mg. £149.99. 7.5mg £169. Use code STARTNOW. Ask for other codes if that doesn't work.
The Family Chemist 2.5mg and 5mg -£149. 7.5mg £169.
Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 5mg
Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. 7.5mg £189
Asda 2.5mg and 5mg £184. 7.5mg £189
Boots £219 +
Chemist4U £179 +
Superdrugs

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

Thanks @AgathaMystery - when I typed this I was kinda thinking out loud and think this makes the most sense.

But I've just done my dates again and I will have already started the 5mg pen, so would do a week or 5mg, then back down to 2.5 to squeeze the pen on holiday then back to 5mg when home. Would that be ok do you think to up and down like that?

AgathaMystery · 19/05/2024 22:47

I would do the 2.5 & then just take the pen on holiday. It’s going to be fine. This drug has been tested and stabilised like you wouldn’t believe. It will be absolutely fine.

summerlovingvibes · 19/05/2024 22:56

So take the new pen on holiday / will be above 30 degrees for most of the trip (except plane where it will be chilly in the hold) ?

KeepingUndercover · 19/05/2024 23:01

Don't put the pen in the hold @summerlovingvibes, that really will be bad for it. You need to take it in your carry on.

Can I give you another option, based on how sick the jump to 5mg made me? Do a 2.5 dose from the 5mg pen by counting the clicks. Take the old 2.5mg pen with you on holiday and hard twist it to get the dose. Then go up when you get home.

summerlovingvibes · 19/05/2024 23:07

@KeepingUndercover that sounds like a good idea.

I was thinking (hoping) because I've had no side effects on 2.5 that I'd be ok, but also don't really want to risk it. So will just stay on 2.5mg for 6-7 weeks total and then go up to 5mg once home

FlappyFish · 19/05/2024 23:53

@ObsidianTree i can post the next thread if you’re away.

I’ve been super quiet all as I’ve been away for the weekend with family. I’m home and back in my own bed and exhausted!

Been an odd weekend for both food and comments as I am clearly noticeably slimmer.

I skim read and hello and night all.

I also found another photo of me at my heaviest. But this time from the front. I will add once I’ve scribbled on it. Ironically I want to show my face as I want to show what alcoholism does as I have moon face. I’m pretty much unrecognisable.

Morning all, hope everyone had good weekends - nice to have some decent weather!

Weigh in day for me and at the end of week 2 I'm down a total of 7lbs, and have just edged into the next stone bracket at 13,13lbs 😀

Took third dose of 2.5 last night. This last week I've had to work quite hard as the suppression hasn't been very noticeable and there's been some food noise....but I also think if I stopped the MJ I'd prob realise it's been better then I realise (when the food noise all comes rushing back 😫).

Hope everyone has a good week!

thehousewiththesagegreensofa · 20/05/2024 07:06

Morning
2lbs off for me which means 5lbs off in the first four weeks. This was the easiest weekend food wise that I have had for a long time so, whilst I'm not experiencing the appetite suppression that many of you have, there is certainly something which means that I've stopped grazing and am finding it much easier to make the right choice. It was so tempting to have a glass of wine in the garden yesterday but sparkling water with some cucumber was nice enough. It also helps that I am beginning to see changes around my waist and feet. I feel as though the changes are disproportionate to the amount of weight I've lost so I'm either underestimating what a lb of fat looks like or the fact I'm mainly eating protein & veg means that I've lost a lot of bloating/inflammation as well as the weight. The final thing which is helping, as I said over the weekend, is this thread. I have tried & failed to lose weight so many times recently that I have run out of people I can bore in real life!
Have a good week

KeepingUndercover · 20/05/2024 07:29

Well done to those weighing in today, lots of progress being made.

I've lost 1.4kg this week. It's coming off pretty steadily and I'm glad I stuck to 5mg for this pen. I will go up for my next one though. Need to order that soon.

jamtastic · 20/05/2024 07:52

@ssummerlovingvibes

Yes, I think you do have to be new to use the Voy referral code. 😕

R4ch402 · 20/05/2024 08:53

So Week 11 for me. I haven't been a super responder as I'd lost 8lbs in 11 weeks. I was injecting into my abdomen this whole time but decided to inject my left arm. Did that on Thursday. Since then all food noise is gone, minimal appetite and I've lost 5lbs since Thursday...
Now that could be because the meds have built up in my system and finally working as they should but I definitely feel different this week than I was before.

Stickthatupyourdojo · 20/05/2024 09:11

Hi everyone, hope you had a good weekend. I did see your post @PissedOffNeighbour22 , well done!

When are you off on holiday @ObsidianTree? Hope you have a wonderful time.

I moved up to 7.5mg last week. The past month I've lost a pound a week. Pleased to report I've had no additional side effects or noticeable increase in appetite suppression, aversion etc but have lost 3 pounds this week.

I am now 10 stone 7 (BMI 26.8 from a BMI of 32 something). Crepey skin is starting to be noticeable on my stomach and my boobs are looking a little sad unfortunately, but I did have my second child and second c section last year so it's to be expected I guess.

BlackFriYay · 20/05/2024 09:16

Week 10 for me, I've just done my bonus dose from my 5mg pen with the 'hard twist' method and found it surprisingly easy and much simpler than extracting with a seperate syringe.

Another 1.4lbs down which I'm more than happy with after last week's whoosh. I'm optimistic that I'll be back in the 10 stone bracket within the next 4 weeks 🤞🏼

Could somebody confirm that doing the hard twist method results in a 0.6ml dose - or do you get a bit more, like you do when you extract it with a syringe? I can't really tell by looking at the pen. I know I got at least a normal dose though.

I think that the clicks to "1" (so 60) ensure you aren't going over the set dose, when I last did my bonus one there was still a little bit left.

ObsidianTree · 20/05/2024 09:30

Well done for the losses.

Glad the 7.5mg is working better for some.

I also am finding the 7.5mg working very well and keeping me well suppressed. I don't think I'm eating enough but will work on that when back from holiday! Or on holiday 😜

@Stickthatupyourdojo I am going to Sri Lanka tomorrow! Was looking forward to swimming and the sun, but the weather looks miserable! Monsoon season started! Hoping there will be a gap with some sunny days!

Which area of Sri Lanka are you going to? The two monsoon seasons affect different areas.

Stickthatupyourdojo · 20/05/2024 09:43

@ObsidianTree eeee how exciting. I will keep my fingers crossed for a good dose of sun while you're away.

Hopefully there will be some sun!

Oops, you might get lucky though! And it will still be beautiful surroundings and warm weather and sea.

DesparatePragmatist · 20/05/2024 10:26

Weighed this morning and a kg off last week, which given I don't think I had a full dose and some food noise, I'm pleased with.

SW 80kg
CW 76.8 kg
GW 60 kg

Took my 3rd 2.5mg dose last night, and after last week's leakage I left the needle in for a good 30 seconds. No leakage! Yay, so hoping I'll get the full suppression effect this week .

I didn't keep up with the thread over a busy WE so I've just binged it. Well done on the losses, courage to the stallers and welcome to the newbies!

Re the eating plans question a few pages back, I know I can't calorie count indefinitely and we home-cook everything so the ready meals with calories on the label would be a backwards step for me. So I am just trying to adopt what will be a maintenance plan - protein and fibre for breakfast and lunch (boiled egg and celery sticks or carrot sticks/apple and ham slices/pear spread with philadelphia, tomato and cold chicken/tuna salad type of thing. Then a half portion of the family supper. I also have a cup of coffee with collagen in the morning, and a tea in the afternoon. And a full pint glass of water 4x a day. I need to make it as easy as possible to do without thinking hard about it or I just won't maintain it!

Now off to Google this Dove dress that looks so great...

Have a wonderful holiday OP!

ObsidianTree · 20/05/2024 10:26

@lurkylurk the temperature still says 28/29°, so it will still be hot. I'm sure we will make the most of it. Still plan to swim rain or shine ☺️

@FutureFeelsBleak I could have written your words about stretchy black trousers (which I have half a drawer full of!). They are a symbol of denial that I was piling on the weight, kidding myself people wouldn’t notice. They just look terrible and slobby. You’ve inspired me to be brave and put them in the recycling next weekend!

@GlueNoGlue this was what I was wearing this weekend! I too need to leave this uniform outfit behind because it is doing nothing for me, except making me look older and frumpy. I might even buy some of those beige colour linen wide leg trousers that are in fashion - shock horror wearing light colour trousers!!

@AgathaMystery I really do love the DL Dove dress, own two now. They’re so comfortable and flattering.

Does anyone follow any good accounts on instagram for mid size fashion?
