Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

MedExpress 2.5mg and 5mg. £149.99. 7.5mg £169. Use code STARTNOW. Ask for other codes if that doesn't work.
The Family Chemist 2.5mg and 5mg -£149. 7.5mg £169.
Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 5mg
Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. 7.5mg £189
Asda 2.5mg and 5mg £184. 7.5mg £189
Boots £219 +
Chemist4U £179 +
Superdrugs

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

I've just been sat in the garden fascinated by the way I can see some veins in my feet. They're new, well being able to see them is.
This clothes just inspired me to sort out some of the clothes in my wardrobe which I just don't like and so don't wear regardless of the size I am.

thehousewiththesagegreensofa · 19/05/2024 14:47

@onanotherday some of us are experiencing this differently. Some have huge amounts of appetite suppression and are forcing themselves to eat; others (me!) have some of the noise and extreme hunger gone but are cheerily tucking into three meals and a couple of snacks a day. I am enjoying food more, I'd say, as I'm putting more thought into what I'm eating and, as I'm minimising UPF, this is all fresh, natural flavoured food and delicious. I've started following various people on instagram so am trying different recipes which is always fun. This week's meal plan involves a sort of soup with orzo, chicken, leek and a few other veg and a chicken and coconut dish

@LifeisHard73 I take psyllium husk. It’s kept me “going”!! https://www.amazon.co.uk/Solgar-Psyllium-Husks-Vegetable-Capsules/dp/B005P0WGNE

Thank you. I’ve actually got a big bag of the is in the cupboard! Do you add to food or a protein shake?

AgathaMystery · 19/05/2024 16:08

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 19/05/2024 13:18

@AgathaMystery thank you :)
I feel so much more like myself now I'm back to my pre-kids weight. Obviously I'm still obese, but I don't look dreadful anymore. I don't think I'd truly realised how fat I was. It was affecting my mood more than I realised too.

I don't feel any healthier though, I have spine and hip issues and it's more painful now but could be due to the small amount of exercise I now do.
I'd like to tone up as my skin is a bit saggy and I have bingo wings. I can definitely walk faster now though 😄

I don't have any side effects and although I'm not particularly appetite suppressed, I'm not snacking anymore.

I’m obese too - ‘class one’ now I think. Looking forward to being merely overweight! Ha.

I too have the bingo wing. I do feel better but how much of that is flogging old clothes on vinted and buying smaller belts I don’t know.

My BP has calmed down which is quite something. A combo of weight loss and loosing my biggest client who was also a true nightmare and honestly I couldn’t go back to working with them now.

LifeisHard73 · 19/05/2024 15:13

Two capsules which I take with a glass of water.

CoolRanch · 19/05/2024 16:39

I have to go for a takeaway Chinese meal for a birthday celebration in a little bit. Wish me luck! I don’t want to eat the wrong things and suffer from a sore stomach, thinking the boiled rice and I’ll just try to take a small about of the dishes etc.

The only time I’ve been uncomfortable was when I had a meal that was maybe a little too big for while on the injection the first night. I thought it was small portions but it was still too much I guess. Been more thoughtful in choices other days and all been fine.

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 19/05/2024 17:08

@AgathaMystery I'm class 1 too, was class 2 originally. I'll feel really smug when I make it to just overweight 😂.
Glad your BP has gone down, hopefully it will stay down now your awful client has gone.

I've just had to go and put a vest top on as it's got so hot in the garden. I don't look too bad at all - my waist is actually making a comeback and I might even have visible collarbones soon!

GlueNoGlue · 19/05/2024 17:11

@WannabeHealthier I’m sat here in my stretchy black trousers and flower patterned floaty dress top thinking I need a shopping trip 😂

Ghilliedu · 19/05/2024 17:39

Another fan of the Dancing Leopard Dove dress! My favourite is the blue with the small stars but I don’t currently fit in it. Hopefully I soon will

just did second jab from my 5mg pen but went for 3mg after being so ill on 3.75 last week. Will build up slowly if this week goes ok - fingers crossed!

Also ordered my next pen (stuck with 5 for now) and used consult-bloom which worked, so thank you for that code!

Wonkypictureframe · 19/05/2024 17:51

36 hours after my first 7.5mg. No unwelcome side effects whatsoever. Zero appetite but we’re having a barbecue tonight so my chance to get the protein in!

Really lovely to hear about all new clothes! I find clothes shopping really tricky at the moment as the floral flouncy dresses make me look like a sofa. So Vinted is my only hope.

Soukmyfalafel · 19/05/2024 18:27

Day 7 of 7.5mg 1st shot. Definitely had hunger back in last 24 hours. I quite enjoy when it does come back for a day though. I'm not counting calories so much at the weekend as it is just so difficult to get the time.

Doing 2nd one tonight. Scales said I put on 2lb from Friday. Not sure what that is about. Hope it doesn't stick. I would have had to eat 7,000 extra calories, which I definitely haven't! I only had a small avocado salad for lunch today that I didn't finish, and I got the shakes yesterday afternoon because I didn't eat enough.

HappyGG · 19/05/2024 18:39

NextPrimeMinister · 19/05/2024 13:44

@HappyGG thanks for replying, so are you on a stall of 4 weeks or haven't lost anything over the 7 weeks you've been using MJ?

Only out of curiosity really. I've seen on these threads people saying they've come off Ozempic or Saxanda as it didn't work.

@NextPrimeMinister I've been on MJ since March and I lost over a stone during the first month or so. Since then I've lost virtually nothing. The last 5 weeks in particular I've gained a pound, lost a pound. I think its a plateau and I need to get my arse in gear and eat healthier instead of just less.

Frenchfries212 · 19/05/2024 19:54

I took my 5th dose of 5mg on Thursday. Decided to stay on 5mg due to suffering with bad side effects. I decided to try the other thigh this week and now wondering if I did something wrong, very minor side effects but so hungry and eating normally. Not sure whether to inject earlier this week. Has made me realise I have yet to sort out my relationship with food and really need to work on that as it’s clear if I came off I would absolutely go straight into self sabotage mode. Had a lovely day with family today, took lots of photos but hated them all, very long road ahead. Can’t wait to have a picture I feel happy with!

Nooneknowsbutme · 19/05/2024 20:32

Week 2 of 5mg
Lost 23lb which blows my mind

Have been eating 2 protein dense meals a day, tons of water & not eating after 5pm

Went for a long arranged dinner at friends last night, and threw my life up when we got home 🤦🏼‍♀️

Managed the small stater fine.
Gave my Husband half of my main course, as it was very rich & stodgy.
Struggled to get the citrus pudding down
And could not touch the cheese board, which is unheard of for me, even seeing it on the table was making me feel 🤢

Before MJ I loved red wine, last night I struggled to finish my 2nd glass.
Couldn't wait to leave as I felt so uncomfortable.
Got home, brushed my teeth & starting gagging!

And then it all came out 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️
Which actually felt like a huge relief.

Have realised that small meals are fine.
3/4 course, stodgy, rich dinners, with lots of red wine are not!!!!

Been to a BBQ today and I was fine, as I didn't have any bread, and stuck to protein & salad.

This is all very strange.

Sassenach85 · 19/05/2024 21:38

I’ve just had my first dose! Got DH to do it but mannnnn that stung!!

what did we do wrong? Most people I have read about don’t feel it. And I’m no wimp lol

Cerialkiller · 19/05/2024 21:44

Maybe because someone else did it? I've never even felt it go in!

Cerialkiller · 19/05/2024 21:45

Who did you order from? Apparently Medexpress use worse needles and have caused a little bruising, could it be that? My next dose will be them after moving so I will report back any difference.

Sassenach85 · 19/05/2024 21:46

This is what I keep hearing. I’ve had blood thinner injections and they weren’t fun but they were ok.

he says maybe it was in a stretch mark 🙄

tiny bead of blood too but deffo felt it

Sassenach85 · 19/05/2024 21:46

It’s Asda

summerlovingvibes · 19/05/2024 22:25

Just wanting to get people's thoughts on this.

Going on holiday and travelling around. Hot country. 13 days. Won't always have fridge storage.

Will be due my second 5mg whilst away.

Thinking I might start the 5mg a week early and save a 2.5mg so that I take my first 5mg dose on the day I go away, take the last 2.5mg dose pen with me and use that up whilst I'm away and then home and continue with 5mg.

Do you think that sounds reasonable?

I just don't really want to take a brand new (expensive) pen with me and risk screwing the solution up for the rest of the month, whereas if I take an almost used pen I don't really care so much...

I am having to seriously budget to afford this treatment.

summerlovingvibes · 19/05/2024 22:27

And whilst I'm thinking about cost -
If anyone has any discount codes? I'm happy to change providers - wherever is cheapest. Am scrolling this board to look for codes. X

summerlovingvibes · 19/05/2024 22:30

Orrrr would you try and squeeze a fifth dose out of 2.5mg pen and then start 5mg once home?

jamtastic · 19/05/2024 22:38

@ssummerlovingvibes Hi, I have a code
joinvoy.com/r/U-pfsD6HLsQ0

Good luck!

summerlovingvibes · 19/05/2024 22:30

This is what I’d do!

summerlovingvibes · 19/05/2024 22:42

Thanks for the code - already with Joinvoy so not sure I can use the code if I'm a current customer? Do I have to be new? @jamtastic
