Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

MedExpress 2.5mg and 5mg. £149.99. 7.5mg £169. Use code STARTNOW. Ask for other codes if that doesn't work.
The Family Chemist 2.5mg and 5mg -£149. 7.5mg £169.
Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 5mg
Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. 7.5mg £189
Asda 2.5mg and 5mg £184. 7.5mg £189
Boots £219 +
Chemist4U £179 +
Superdrugs

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

Thanks @MrsBurtMacklin - I did a lot of googling last night (never a good idea!) and I thought that was the case!

At the moment I have a lot to loose (BMI 40) so this comes with its own risks and I am doing this in the hope that I have a long and healthy life, so i guess I am just anxious that I could loose the weight but put myself at risk later from something else!

ThirdStorm · 17/05/2024 06:53

I’m now 3 weeks in, 4th dose just administered. I’m 2lb away from the next stone bracket so very excited as I haven’t seen that for a while! I’m really pleased with how much progress I’ve made. I swear that this medication is helping me manage anxiety better too. I also hope the hunger suppression stays as I want to get the 5th dose next week and my next pen is 2.5 which already I’m the fridge waiting.

DownWithThisKindOfThing · 17/05/2024 06:59

lurkylurk · 17/05/2024 00:42

@DownWithThisKindOfThing

When I counted it was 61 or 62 so maybe you miscounted?

The pen will keep working until you've met the total of 4 x 5mg doses, even if you do it in 5 doses, someone else confirmed this earlier on the thread as they had had the same concern but it worked fine.

Thank you x

guestusername · 17/05/2024 07:07

WI today and 1.75lb off, bringing me to 14.5 lbs off so I’ve officially lost a stone 😀

SW- 14.12
CW - 13.11.5
TW - 13.9 which puts me at overweight rather than obese

ObsidianTree · 17/05/2024 07:07

Morning all,

Well done for all the losses from yesterday and today.

Hope everyone has a great Friday 😊

Exitstrategist · 17/05/2024 07:19

Weigh in today and I have gained half a kilo. Time of month combined with eating more last weekend. I’m only on 7.5 second dose and already feeling like it’s not suppressing as much as it did last week… but I also need to make better food choices. Gah- so close to being a healthy BMI. Onwards and hopefully downwards

Soulstirring · 17/05/2024 07:28

Well done all. For the first time in 11 days since starting I feel a little hungry this morning 😩. I hate feeling hungry!

NextPrimeMinister · 17/05/2024 07:31

Morning All!

It's 12 weeks since I started, and I'm another 1lb off (TOTM too)
30lb / 2 st 2 lb off

SW 13.12
CW 11.10

Using up my last 5mg pen, today but using the bonus dose to get me as close to 7.5mg before starting my proper 7.5mg pen next week.

NSV - everything in my wardrobe fits!

(Size 14).

Stickthatupyourdojo · 17/05/2024 07:38

Morning all, happy Friday. One pound off again this week, first few days of 7.5mg. Now 10.9, so 13 pounds to go until reaching a 'healthy' BMI of 24.9.

NSV last night...took my bra off for bed and went to rub my sides as it was a little tight. There was a hard bump. Same on other side. After having a prod I realised it's my rib cage 😂 why hello Gill, I have rediscovered I have bones!

GlueNoGlue · 17/05/2024 07:46

Morning everyone- it’s weigh day!

lost -4lb this week so feeling happy! Brings my total loss to 2 stone 5lb in 10 weeks. Almost worth the near constant diarrhoea!

R4ch402 · 17/05/2024 07:58

My first week of 7.5. Despite having diarrhoea the first half of this week I've managed to gain 2lbs. A bit sad but onwards and upwards.

dmott · 17/05/2024 08:11

The number on the scales went down this morning which was reassuring to see after my first bump in the road and a period gain last week. Hopefully it'll continue to go down and Wednesday will be a happy weigh in day (I take official weight on Wednesday but weigh and log almost daily for the graph)
I'm hoping to hit 14lbs lost by Wednesday which is 8 weeks.

Argh no weight loss for me and actually a 1/4 lb gain. Honestly I'm eating on average 1000-1200 calories a day with the odd day at 1500 calories. My calculated calories to be in a 500 cal deficit is 1500 so don't know why I just can't lose weight.

So I'm 9lb 1/4 loss in 6 weeks. It's just so slow.

Maybe I need to ditch carbs or something but honestly why it would matter where the calories are from I don't know

Well done all. For the first time in 11 days since starting I feel a little hungry this morning 😩. I hate feeling hungry!

Could you reframe it as your body needing nutrition, rather than you wanting 'food'?

I felt the same as you when my appetite came back at various points but now I just use the opportunity to 'fuel' weight loss by eating protein which I know actually helps me to lose the weight 🙂

You can get some really good protein shakes from supermarkets that stave off the hunger pangs. I've got some 50g protein ones in the fridge from ufit, for a couple of quid each. The 50g ones are 200 and something calories and quite filling.

Where do you buy the ufit ones?

I’m having ‘for goodness shakes’ for breakfast on the days I work from the office. Taste is good, 20g of protein and 153 calories in 330ml. Keeps me fine until lunchtime.

I'm in the exact same boat. 10 weeks in, 8 lbs lost despite calorie counting, drinking 3l a water a day, low carb diet, high protein and intermittent fasting. However, I after doing a lot of research online I have realised that I am insulin resistant. I have all the symptoms and do have PCOS. So thats why I'm losing quite slowly.

NCfor24 · 17/05/2024 09:01

Morning all. Weigh in day for me and -3lb this week. Total of 21.5lb in 9 weeks.
I weigh daily and haven't looked at my weekly losses until decided to post them on the thread asking for SW info. I've had ups and downs on the scales but taking my Friday weight (or sometimes Thurs or Sat if I skipped a weigh in) I have lost every single week except one where I stayed the same. I'm bloody pleased as I've considered myself a slow loser but happy it's consistently going down.

Anyway I'm shocked it's 3lb this week as I've eaten a lot of junk but counted calories so I've been nearer 1500 on at least 3 days. I took the kids away last weekend and had Five Guys and KFC! Last night we had Papa John's but I shared a pizza with 2 kids instead of the old me having a whole one. Ate 3 slices, cut off the crusts and am still feeling uncomfortably full today.

After having horrific constipation I started taking aloe vera tablets this week and that's eased things...I also think last weekend's junk food cleared me out a bit too, so sorry if too much information but it's clearly affected the scales!

Today is bonus 5mg dose then I'll go on to my 7.5mg pen but count clicks for 5mg I think. I need to order again next week so I'm in the 6 week window and I think I'll get another 7.5mg. I'm about a month ahead with buying and with bonus doses I'm hoping that my stockpile for below 25 BMI will begin! BMI still 31 but being just overweight is in sight 😊

I’m having ‘for goodness shakes’ for breakfast on the days I work from the office. Taste is good, 20g of protein and 153 calories in 330ml. Keeps me fine until lunchtime.

Tesco, they're usually on offer with a club card too.

I get both the 20g and 50g ones. The 20g are similar calories to yours and I have those as an 'every day' shake, and I have the 50g ones (230 something calories) at the start of the week when I've just injected and can't stomach my usual 1200 of food.

I get some other ones from sainsburys called 'Protein' for convenience when I'm out and about and not near a tesco, 20g Protein at 199 calories so slightly higher than ufit.

I find them all really tasty!

Edited to add - I've also been buying Protein yoghurts from tesco. The brand is Arla and it's 20g protein 158 calories. Always on club card as 4 for £3. They've been my go to breakfast coupled with strawberries, blackberries and chia seeds but I'm really struggling with them at the minute which is crap as they were a good staple. I seem to have developed a bit of an aversion to the texture 😐

Cerialkiller · 17/05/2024 09:24

Well after my grovelling post last night, I've unexpectedly lost a whole pound! Puts me at 12.5lb. I've just had to run to the toilet so it might be even less now, i'm concerned that its a reaction to giving myself a slightly higher dose (2.75) two days ago, makes me nervous for the 3.75 i'm planning next week but i'm certainly not taking a full 5mg.

I'm liking seeing peoples graphs showing weight slowing and speeding up again, give me hope that I won't be stuck at a slow pace now the initial water weight early on has gone.

NSV
the flabby bits on the inside of my knees are visibly smaller, jeans feel 'flappy' as there is space in them now.
face looks better, eyes brighter and less puffy, neck smaller, jawline clearer.
Weirdly noticed the area between my shoulder blades has less fat on it.
Waist is reappearing.

I am not vegan (I have occasional fish/chicken but go meat free a lot of days of the week) but if anyone is looking for a Vegan protein powder the one we’ve bought for a couple years in our house and been happy with is Alpha Foods Vegan Protein powders. Comes in a lot of flavours, we normally have a vanilla (for me) and peanut butter (for husband) and have had chocolate and cookie dough too in the past (husband likes all the flavours, I just like vanilla 😂). I usually blend it up with some ice and water, sometimes a little oats and fruit, in a smoothie blender. I like the vanilla a lot.

Thank you, I think you’re right. My appetite has been zero and my cals are low. I have been trying to focus on protein and have ordered shakes on my shopping, due today!

This is my daily weight graph

I don’t mind stalls that much to be honest. I feel like the weight is embedding a bit, which I know can feel frustrating when you want to see it go down but it feels more secure from going up again quickly.

Hi all,

Just looking to order my first 7.5mg pen with Medexpress.
