Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

MedExpress 2.5mg and 5mg. £149.99. 7.5mg £169. Use code STARTNOW. Ask for other codes if that doesn't work.
The Family Chemist 2.5mg and 5mg -£149. 7.5mg £169.
Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 5mg
Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. 7.5mg £189
Asda 2.5mg and 5mg £184. 7.5mg £189
Boots £219 +
Chemist4U £179 +
Superdrugs

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

@Baldatbirth

We sound like we’re following a similar path, I started at 15st 2.5, was 14st 7.5 this morning, so 9 lbs off in just over 7 weeks.

It’s a lot slower than some but so long as it keeps going I’m fine with that! I haven’t gone up to 5mg, been doing 3.75mg and 4.25 this week due to side effects. I feel like I need to go up as food noise creeping in a lot more but my gastrointestinal system won’t let me! Will do another 4.25mg this coming week and see how it goes, spent a day in bed last week and the is week as felt crap, just as well I work for myself! I’m confident it will settle down over time as most find it does, just taking a while.

NNSingers · 17/05/2024 10:38

Good morning all, I haven't posted in a while but have been keeping up with all the posts. Well done on everyone losing weight, and to those of you who are slow to loose but keep going ☺️.
I am slow to lose, I lost around 10lbs in the first three weeks and have bounced around at the same 10lbs ever since. I am half way through week 6 and on my 2nd shot of 5mg. I'm drinking loads of water, walking a lot and calorie counting. Perhaps I am just slow to lose, I need to keep going on this. When I did Keto a few years back I'd lost 1.5 stone by 6 weeks. Hopefully slow and steady wins the race for me.
Anyway, happy Friday, thanks for all the great posts, support and advice x

Choux · 17/05/2024 11:05

I got my 10mg pen yesterday (36 hours from order to delivery with MedExpress) and still have 3 doses plus bonus of my 7.5mg pen to take. So I have 80mg of Mounjaro in my fridge right now. That makes me happy!

Consult-bloom is the 15% off MedExpress code I used. In capitals.

Soukmyfalafel · 17/05/2024 11:15

Good morning all. Almost 10 weeks in. Congratulations everyone on your losses. I love seeing the graphs people post.

I seem to have had a post TOTM whoosh. And lost 2lb this week. Was the same last month. Expect I will rebound back up a bit like last month too then lose more steadily again. I've had quite high suppression on 7.5 and not too bad for side effects. I get terrible sulphur burps for a couple of days though and I'm looking forward to seeing the back of it. I think I'm likely in a healthy BMI now, so glad I ordered my last pen when I did. I don't think I will need it if I continue to lose quickly as I am now. So might be an emergency pen if I suddenly gain very quickly.

If I can lose 5lb or more in the next couple of weeks I'm going to start reducing at the end of this pen to titrate down. I can get another two 7.5s and then two 5s then 2x 2.5.

My clothes fit a million times better, but I don't feel I have even gone down a dress size properly yet, which is strange. I'm still carrying fat in my middle and have only lost from sides, but I think its more post childbirth paunch now. I always marvel at how these women who lose 5st end up with washboard stomachs as it isn't happening to me. My friend did this and went into one of those bikini competitions and had a lovely flat stomach with very little loose skin. How do they do it?

NNSingers · 17/05/2024 12:02

Can I ask how people are stockpiling pens? Just thinking I might start doing the same xx

DownWithThisKindOfThing · 17/05/2024 12:17

What expiry are people getting on 5 mg pens from med express? Don’t want to risk another June one.

ThirdStorm · 17/05/2024 12:21

NNSingers · 17/05/2024 12:02

I'm with Med Express. My first pen was ordered on 24 April. Prescriptions locked for 2 weeks. I ordered again on 8 May and I plan to order again on 22 May. The only issue I have is the first 2 pens are 2.5 so I need to decide if I'm staying on 2.5 or moving up to 5. 2.5 has been working great, 4th injection this morning.

Stickthatupyourdojo · 17/05/2024 12:29

I ordered a second 7.5mg from medexpress to stash (as I'm only half way through week 1 of my first 7.5mg) and they've sent it (it came yesterday) but emailed me to check why I haven't gone up to 10mg and asked if it's because of side effects. I've messaged back to say no, just don't want to race through the titration and have no where left to go which they've said they've updated my account with.

I thought that was quite unusual that they emailed to ask while sending me it anyway. I didn't reply as it wasn't clear they expected a response (email was worded "if you haven't moved up due to side effects, let us know") but they chased for a response this morning. Probably a good thing but they do seem keen on getting me on the higher dose!

RagzRebooted · 17/05/2024 12:33

@BlackFriYay I have one of those Arla yogurts most days, but can't always finish it.
After leaving one half eaten on my desk this morning, I have discovered that the texture is more palatable and the flavour better if you let it warm up for a few hours!

ThirdStorm · 17/05/2024 12:59

@Stickthatupyourdojo Great they asked! I guess they are gathering data to best support their customers (or feedback habits to the regulator?).

RagzRebooted · 17/05/2024 13:03

Was talking to a colleague who is also on MJ about long term and she plans to stay on it, apparently the clinic she uses (Phlo?) told her when she asked that they consider it a long term plan and don't have a BMI cut-off. I'm not sure that actually fits with the guidelines, but will be interesting to see if they stick to that when she gets to that point. They are more expensive, but they did send a whole box of needles and a box of wipes with the sharps bin in the first order!

Thanks for the tip! They're a good little protein hit aren't they? I read somewhere that Aldi or Lidl do their own protein yoghurt range so I'll have to try them some time too.

Soukmyfalafel · 17/05/2024 13:21

If you don't mind a little less protein bt 5g the protein drinks are a bit easier to manage I find.

KeepingUndercover · 17/05/2024 13:28

For 5g of protein you could get more in a glass of milk. 8.8g of protein in 250ml of milk according to Nutracheck. That's a nice cappuccino.

Soukmyfalafel · 17/05/2024 13:36

The drinks I am talking about have 20g in, which is 5g less than the yoghurts which normally have 25g in. I just find the drinks go down easier.

KeepingUndercover · 17/05/2024 13:38

Oh that makes much more sense! A little less by 5g.

I'm still quite liking rebranding my cappuccino as a protein drink though. It's doing better than some of the "protein bars" I was looking at today that were 4g.

Soukmyfalafel · 17/05/2024 13:45

It was probably my rushed post that was the issue. I do like the idea of an iced protein cappuccino!

ThirdStorm · 17/05/2024 13:49

Talking of protein shakes, I'm enjoying the Grenade protein shake(s) which gives me 25g protein. A much needed boost. I've tried the chocolate, salted caramel and banana flavours which are all nice.

lurkylurk · 17/05/2024 13:59

I got a surprise today, I’ve only
lost 9 pounds but have lost 2 inches from my waist!

Checked again as couldn’t quite believe it but definitely have, actually just over. I’m tall so it takes a lot of weight loss to go down a size, be at least another three quarters of a stone and I have a lot to lose (at least another 3 and a half stone) so wasn’t expecting that at all!

Im very happy it seems to be coming off there as I’m peri and carry All my weight around my middle, I haven’t had a waist in some time, might actually have one on the not too distant future!

Choux · 17/05/2024 13:59

Good to know as I am eating one right now and am not too keen on the texture.

ThirdStorm · 17/05/2024 14:05

@lurkylurk That's incredible! Its good you measure too as sometimes it isn't about weight. I'm quite bloated right now so trying to up my water intake.

NNSingers · 17/05/2024 14:53

@ThirdStorm thanks for that. I am also with med express so will order as and when I can to get a stock pile going. I am on 5mg and not sure whether to go up to 7.5 or stick with another 5. I am losing slowly so maybe I do need to go up and if too much decrease the clicks.

Ghilliedu · 17/05/2024 15:11

Hi all, still haven’t heard back from med express about the expiry dates. If I haven’t heard by tomorrow I’ll just go ahead and order another 5 and hope for the best.

today is the first day I’ve felt remotely human after my sickness on Monday. But my tummy still gets really unsettled at certain things. I had a protein shake this morning thinking that would be fine (water, not milk) and not long after it I was hanging a washing out and had to sprint back in to the toilet. Not fun. My tummy only seems to be happy if I’m eating a chicken wrap. Feel like it’s all I’ve eaten this week as everything else is making me ill.

next dose is meant to be on Sunday. I’m definitely going back down to maybe 3/3.25mg but I’m not gonna lie, I’m terrified

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 17/05/2024 15:24

Been using Asda since the beginning as they approved me after having pancreatitis years ago. The 7.5 is £189 with them but via zava. If I go on Zavas direct page, it's only £169! So are Asda making £20 profit off me every time? The questionnaire is even the same. I've emailed Asda to see what they say. It's not even free postage.

AgathaMystery · 17/05/2024 15:35

regarding milk & protein - just remember that milk is basically liquid glucose. It’s designed to make baby cows fat - it’s not great for humans. Your body will just dump insulin.
