Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

MedExpress 2.5mg and 5mg. £149.99. 7.5mg £169. Use code STARTNOW. Ask for other codes if that doesn't work.
The Family Chemist 2.5mg and 5mg -£149. 7.5mg £169.
Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 5mg
Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. 7.5mg £189
Asda 2.5mg and 5mg £184. 7.5mg £189
Boots £219 +
Chemist4U £179 +
Superdrugs

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

@chouxchoux I'm in the same dilemma. I've not lost any weight in two weeks (on 5mg) - kept going up and down the same 2lbs. But today I'm down to 10st 10.6 which is my lowest in years so it's still working apparently. I have 1 more dose on this one and have bought a 5 but am not sure what to do.

guestusername · 16/05/2024 10:31

I don’t like one piece swimsuits as I am quite large of boob. I swear by halterneck swimwear. Keeps them up nicely. I’m 5’7 and can do tankinis without issue but I’ll only wear swim shirts as opposed to teeny weeny pants that look like my arse is searching for lunch 😂

FlappyFish · 16/05/2024 10:32

I think the thing to remember with going up doses is it’s not the strength that causes you to lose weight. It’s the suppression and inhibition to the receptors. From what I’ve read, (and those who are more scientific please add), they become accustomed to it.

If a dose is working for you, I would stick to it. It’s the work we put food wise that causes the loss. If I thought racing up doses would make me lose more I’m sure I would. But once you reach 15 that’s it and there is nowhere else to go. It’s not available yet anyway, is it?

I am still on 5. Another 5 pen and a 7.5 unopened.

BlackFriYay · 16/05/2024 10:36

A question for those of you who are or planning to make a stockpile as you approach your goal weight: won't the injections be past their use by date?

I'd love to do the same thing when I get a bit closer to my GW but if I recall correctly you only get about a month to 6 weeks on any one pen don't you? Wouldn't they go bad?

I need to go and check my prescription boxes as it seems I am mistaken?

lurkylurk · 16/05/2024 10:37

Re. Swimwear, in my quest to find swimwear that fit both my burgeoning belly and my height I did actually find a couple of options (tried on and returned soooo many) that worked well and were flattering.

They’re both tankinis but long ones and both sort of skim over the not so great bits so in case it helps someone else that is tall, going on holiday soon and still a bit chunky posting links below.

The eBay one on mobile doesn’t seem to always show the correct one and it’s not the variation in the picture but if you go on the listing it’s number 4 in navy or black.

For both you may need to size up a size as they’re from China so despite the tables the sizes may not be right but you could always order 2 sizes and return unwanted one.

eBay one has better bust support, Amazon one skims belly more!

The 7.5mg pens have an expiry date of something next year, think April 2025? The 2.5mg and 5 mg here had short dates as were made ages ago in the hopes of it being approved here for diabetes quicker. Pens made from new generally are a year before expiry

Ooh thanks for clarifying! That's very encouraging. I'll definitely aim to do the same then.

You look absolutely incredible Flaps!

I'll second that, well done!

chouxchoux · 16/05/2024 10:42

Thanks @FlappyFish - your message tipped me to go and order a 5mg pen. My 7.5mg pen is in the fridge and has an expiry date in 2025 so I'm happy for that to be waiting for me to be ready!

My losses so far...

SW 204 lb
CW 185 lb
GW 145 lb
(I'm just shy of 5'8)

Week 1: +1 lb
Week 2: -4 lb
Week 3: no change
Week 4: -1 lb
Week 5: -6 lb
Week 6: -2 lb
Week 7: -3 lb
Week 8: -2 lb

I'm motoring pretty well at 5mg (moved up after week 4). Total loss so far 18.5 lbs (I've lost another couple of lbs since my last weekly weigh-in). So seems right to stay at 5.

@CiderJabs how much have you got left to lose?

lurkylurk · 16/05/2024 10:42

@FlappyFish

You look really great, if I can achieve the same I’d be very happy.

BigBessie · 16/05/2024 10:49

If anyone is looking for a code - I have been sent a 15% off code from Zava (the same supplier as Asda)

I use them every time and they always deliver next day without fail. Not as cheap as some others though.

For disclosure , this also gives me a discount on my next order

Feel free to use if you wish - REFYX8C7

tunnellights76 · 16/05/2024 10:54

Hello all!

Day 1 - First MJ today at 10.15... ARGH!

New on here generally, I've been following these MJ etc threads and really it's all your experience that made me sign up... currently on VOY cos of the initial 50% off but am looking for cheaper deals, keen for guidance on who and what retailers seem best for people!

So many things I want it to do but it seems like an insane wish list for magic fairies to sort out...

Food - planning on small portions, mainly protein & veg. Have a teenage boy so will be making a wider range for him to eat too. any thoughts?

Does this effect cups of tea?!?!?! total tea head here

Wine. will it make me stop wanting wine at night (I bloody hope so)?!

I like a walk and I like going to the gym, but sometimes I prefer wine and telly (ahem).. I want to move more!

Yes, I realise I want to be a different person or at least the person I was before the ridiculous last 5 years..... so I guess I need to try be really strict with myself about food, wine, movement... this might help it stay off I'm thinking...

SW 84
GW around 63, would be a bloody miracle

I know this is a fairly average weight & I'm lucky and some have further to go, solidarity sisters. I'm guessing ups and downs is the name of the game.

anyone else starting out this week?

@Sassenach85? have you taken the plunge?

CiderJabs · 16/05/2024 10:57

@chouxchoux I'll be 24.8 bmi when I lose another stone (9st 10). I can't remember ever being this weight in my adult life so I don't know if it's doable. Right now I'm 27.6. My plan is to get down to 10st and see how I feel.

ObsidianTree · 16/05/2024 10:59

MelissaLouRocks · 16/05/2024 10:20

Is that possibility due to ethnicity, as I seem to remember you saying something about your healthy BMI being 23? Or is it the same for everyone? Sorry for all the Q's!

It could be my ethnicity. I'm not sure if it's that for all. Next time mine unlocks I'll play around with it.

It's weird, isn't it, setting 'goal weight' - I have an arbitrary 10st 5 as my goal but have no memory of having ever been that weight as an adult. My lowest "recorded" weight in the many, many years I've battled with it is 12 st 4lbs. So I'm happy to see how it all feels as I get down into the 11st bracket and beyond; I'm quite well proportioned (I think!) so not fussed if I decide I look good at BMI 25, 26, whatever it may be! That's when the hard part starts anyway - maintenance 😅😬

The latest dosages have a year date on them. The 7.5mg says April 25. I got my 10mg delivered but haven't checked that date yet.

@MelissaLouRocks mine is open so I've played with mine. I am allowed to order at 64kg which is a BMI of 23.4, but not 63kg which is 23.1.

lurkylurk · 16/05/2024 11:22

It’s in the FAQs on the MedExpress website, BMI 25, or 23.5 for minority ethnicities. Technically I’m a minority ethnicity in the UK as I’m Irish but somehow don’t think I’ll get away with that 😂😂😂

lurkylurk · 16/05/2024 11:24

I think they’ve set it so the form goes down to 23.5 as it needs to for those eligible but that your order would be cancelled if you’re not eligible past BMI 25.

KeepingUndercover · 16/05/2024 11:25

Where is it in the FAQ @lurkylurk? I couldn't see it in the general bit, is it somewhere in the weight loss pages?

lurkylurk · 16/05/2024 11:27

I found it by accident and posted it a while ago, it may have been on the Wegovy oage

Moanranger · 16/05/2024 11:30

NSV- I am now able to zip up my gilet (the one I wore open with arms in holes, pretending it was keeping me warm!)😊
