Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

MedExpress 2.5mg and 5mg. £149.99. 7.5mg £169. Use code STARTNOW. Ask for other codes if that doesn't work.
The Family Chemist 2.5mg and 5mg -£149. 7.5mg £169.
Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 5mg
Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. 7.5mg £189
Asda 2.5mg and 5mg £184. 7.5mg £189
Boots £219 +
Chemist4U £179 +
Superdrugs

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

So if people are being cut off, is it worth telling while lies about the weight we input?

Lol yeah. Just put on 4 jumpers, 2 pairs of jeans and 3 coats before weighing 🤣

Can I join in? I’ve got my pen in the fridge good to go I’m just waiting to take the plunge. Bit nervous about feeling rubbish.

Go for it!
On MJ I have had no side effects whatsoever (apart from feeling cold)
You may be lucky like me!

Good luck 🍀

A few tin cans strategically placed whilst weighing! 😂

My injection day is Thursday & my highest appetite suppression day is Sat-Sun. By Tues, Weds there is some return of appetite, but as the weeks go by (finishing 6th) there is less of this. I ate less than 1000 cals today, mostly I eat because I know if I don’t I will feel shattered.
I tried on a swimsuit today, in spite of having lost a stone, this was not a great experience. It will take another stone for any swim costume to look flattering.
Start weight 13st 6lbs
current 12st 6
goal 11st 1

You and I are very similar weights, although I'm losing a lot slower.
I was 13st 5 when I started 9 weeks ago and yesterday weighed at 12st 8.

I'll admit I was 14st 8 in the past and lost three stone last year due to Ozempic and not drinking alcohol!
I went down to 11st 7, but then couldn't get Ozempic anymore and Wegovy didn't work!
I put on two stone from June onwards and started again this March.
This time is the last time as I'm determined to keep it off!
My goal weight is 10st something!! I just want to see a 10 on the scales! 10st 7 is ideal, but 10st 13 will be fantastic!

FlappyFish · 16/05/2024 08:32

@ThirdStorm I haven’t started 7.5. I have one in the fridge to go to, another 5 and the last of 5 to use. 7.5 wasn’t available for a while as I started mid-February so I ordered what I could.

@RunningAndSinging Gosh that’s kind! Thank you. I keep sharing really openly as I know I was one of the first to start and seeing my experience probably helps others. Especially the ups and downs. This isn’t linear.

This is MFP for the last three months. Start weight was 14.3 but I was 14.1 the day I first took MJ. That really shows the progress for anyone who wants to compare.

For those people on mounjaro - have you altered your habits so that once you stop then the habits are ingrained?
I am hoping to start this week- but it's all a mind field with changing eating habits.
Do you calorie/ protein count?
Has your exercise increased?
My SW is 84kg Height 5 4 BMI 32.
I am hoping that the medication will give the kick start I need to gain and maintain a healthy weight.

DownWithThisKindOfThing · 15/05/2024 17:57

I read something yesterday which said that people have been keeping it off for at least 4 years

That's interesting. I guess with studies they all say different things. I think I need to remember that it's me in control here and not a research study. I do need to think about how I am going to maintain now, and have some strategies in place. I know my main problem areas are portion size and being time poor. So I need to work out how to eat better when I am busy.

I didn't gain this extra weight overnight, so I just need to be more self aware too and intervene quickly. I need to not avoid the scales and try to be aware of calories too. Some of my evening meals were about 1000cals easily. 😣

April88 · 16/05/2024 09:07

For maintainwnce what are people planning? Low dose every week? Higher dose every other week?

I’ve still got just under 2 stone to go (having lost 4 stone with dieting then MJ) but I like to plan! I might start ordering sooner and the extra dose means I’ll have a stockpile.

We are working on changing eating habits. High protein, calorie counting etc.

Some people are exercising. I haven't quite started that yet but will be joining a gym soon. I definitely want to start working on building muscle before I get close to goal weight.

The good thing about MJ is that it helps you to stop cravings and therefore supports healthier choices.

Weigh in day today - but no jab yet as I'm waiting for needles. 8th jab, so I've lost 1 stone 1.6lbs in 7 weeks.

SW: 12.6.6
CW: 11.5.0
GW: 10.0.0

Had a whoosh this morning (may have been helped along by Ella's kitchen prunes yesterday 😀), so 2.6lbs this week, one of my highest losses.

I'm planning on staying on 5mg for the next pen - I have a 10 day holiday coming up so want to stay on a dose I'm comfortable with. I won't be calorie counting while away, but keeping on with my high protein lowish carb routine as far as I can. For some if it we're in an apartment, but lots of trips out, evenings out, so it will be my first real test of willpower. Hoping to maintain, but a gain won't be a disaster as I'll be back on it once back home again.

CoolRanch · 16/05/2024 09:19

Well I feel fine so far!

Here is a weird little anecdotal thing though: My dog was asleep last night before I did the first injection. He didn’t see me until this morning and when he did he started sniffing me incessantly like I didn’t smell right! I guess if this changes sugars etc in our bodies he might be noticing that?

The only other time he did this was when I first had Covid (before I knew), and when I had another health issue suddenly (also before I knew). It’s like he gets really interested when he notices something new going on. Dogs really can tell a lot with those snoots lol!

MendaciousMabel · 16/05/2024 09:41

Morning all. I finally hopped on the scales, now 93kg. I was 98.7kg when I started a month ago. It's 11lbs lost and I'm 6lbs off getting back to under 200lbs.

Feeling okay from the 5mg so far, just not very hungry at all so it's going to be hard to get the calories in. One of the benefits of being back at work is I am drinking loads of water now, for some reason I just drink loads when I'm in my office!

chouxchoux · 16/05/2024 09:43

ineedmoresleepnow · 15/05/2024 22:56

Well done everyone on the losses. I love reading everyone's updates.

I ordered a 7.5mg yesterday, but don't need it for a month as I have 3 left of 5 mg. But I missed the blooming delivery today and cant collect until tomorrow night so am guessing the 30 day out of the fridge will have started by then.
Pondering whether to count clicks to take 3 x 5mg of the 7.5 pen and then move up to 7.5 using the rest of the 7.5 and then the 5 which will be in the fridge still. But the 5 would have been open for more than 30 days! Aghh!

I had a delivery fuck up with my 5mg pen (went round the houses, arrived about 3 days after it should've, so was definitely out of the fridge for a while). I still had some 2.5mg shots to go, so I ended up taking the 5mg bonus dose on day 38 (this Monday just gone) and I'm fine. Expected suppression etc.

I also am a bit far off, have 3 stone to go. But also like to plan!

My plan is to start stocking up when I get into the 11s. Will have until 11st 1lbs which is my cut off, then I will start using my stock pile to start titrating down. So if I'm up to 15mg, I will start reducing mg monthly, until maybe I'm down to 5mg. Then start increasing the days between doses to get to once every 2 weeks ish, then try and cut off! That should take several months at least I think. Not sure how many pens I would need to stock up! I suppose 1 of each titration and a few 5mg! Will do the math when I get close to the end!

After a terrible week last week, just 1 lb off and that was only by doing that shuffle on the scales lean to one side thing😁, this week I have lost 4.5lb and it's not even weigh day till tomo, plus I haven't pooped!

I am convinced the slow week was caused by Lactulose to help the pooping ( won't try that again plus it tastes vile).

This was my first week on7.5mg so I have to say I am impressed. It's my biggest weekly loss and wasn't expecting anything like it at this point 9 weeks in when I am only 4.8lbs from my BMI goal.

chouxchoux · 16/05/2024 09:51

Has anyone moved up to 7.5mg despite feeling the 5mg was still effective?

I ordered a 7.5mg pen when Asda got them in stock, assuming I'd feel ready to titrate up at this point down the line, but I'm honestly questioning whether to just get another 5mg pen delivered ASAP and carry on with that until it's worn off.

Anyone had a similar situation? The reviews of 7.5mg causing unpleasant side effects are making me even more nervous!

ObsidianTree · 16/05/2024 09:55

@chouxchoux if it's working maybe try sticking to it? You could always take 40 clicks worth (5mg) from the 7.5mg pen? Or do what people have been doing titrating from 2.5mg to 5mg, by doing it gradually and taking 3.75mg etc.

OP posts:
RagzRebooted · 16/05/2024 09:59

NSV today, I'm wearing large scrubs and not extra large! I did actually wear my proper tunic on Tuesday and felt great standing up, but felt like an overstuffed sausage sitting down, so a few weeks to go on that I think! But I got a lot of compliments at work, which was nice.

@lurkylurk I share your pain re the swimwear and being tall. Though I don't mind showing my ridiculous stretch marks in a bikini, I don't find them supportive or boob-safe enough for actual swimming.

Oooh - thanks for that, knowing how many clicks equates to 5mg is really helpful - I may do that at least for the next fortnight or so!!

Only because when you put different weights into their starter questionnaire, it lets you get to a weight as low as BMI 23.5 before it tells you cant have it! So I tested mine down to 11st 1lb and can get it until then. 11st said I couldn't get it anymore.

Is that possibility due to ethnicity, as I seem to remember you saying something about your healthy BMI being 23? Or is it the same for everyone? Sorry for all the Q's!
