Continuing Mounjaro...part 8

1000 replies

ObsidianTree · 05/05/2024 14:42

Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
https://glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. https://www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
https://medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

  • MedExpress 2.5mg and 5mg. £149.99. 7.5mg £169. Use code STARTNOW. Ask for other codes if that doesn't work.
  • The Family Chemist 2.5mg and 5mg -£149. 7.5mg £169.
  • Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 5mg
  • Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. 7.5mg £189
  • Asda 2.5mg and 5mg £184. 7.5mg £189
  • Boots £219 +
  • Chemist4U £179 +
  • Superdrugs

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

Hi all, it’s great reading this and the previous threads, lots of helpful info and inspiration.

I started my first 2.5mg dose last Friday. I had aches the first two days and some appetite suppression over the last few days, but hunger is creeping in now. I weighed today and I’ve lost 2lbs. Not as much as some but I’m feeling encouraged. I am also on the second day of my period, so I feel good that I’ve still seen a loss.

Im 45, 5ft2 and 12.5st so have a high BMI. I was always around 8.5st until baby number 3 came along (who is now in her early teens so no baby weight excuses for me!!).

My weight gain and being overweight/obese all these years has knocked my confidence massively, impacting every area. I have a good life and a loving family but I know I’d be happier in myself if I could control my eating/weight and get down to a weight I feel comfortable at.

Id love to get to 9.5st and start to feel like my old self again. I also would love to exercise more so will be heading to the gym with hubby and starting to get out the C25k programme this week.

So lovely to read all your posts. Thanks for this thread I know it will be a great motivator in the coming months!

Welcome Waspwine, don’t worry too much about not having hunger suppression all week on 2.5mg, it only lasted a few days for me too and it’s not a therapeutic dose, just gets your body used to the treatment and so can move up to higher doses with less side effects.

A lot of people lose quite a bit on 2.5mg and a lot of people not so much, so just see how it goes.

Stickthatupyourdojo · 08/05/2024 12:18

Morning everyone. Weigh day 8 for me today and despite my naughty weekend I posted about I've managed to lose a pound, and seem to be very near to it being 2 🤞🏼

Height: 5 foot 2
Highest weight: 12.10
MJ starting weight: 12
Current weight: 10.12

NSV today of finding some dungarees I bought six years ago that wouldn't even go on, still with labels attached. They fit now, wooooo.

My goal is 9.10 as that will give me a BMI of 24.9 and thus "healthy weight". I've never been lower than 9.2 as an adult and that took effort and was pre kids when I had more spare time and cash so anything starting 9 I'd be thrilled with.

dmott · 08/05/2024 12:22

Weigh day 6 for me today and I lost 2.2lbs this last week which is fantastic.

I need to re focus and get moving more as I can feel a slip in attention. I've had much less negative side effects on 5mg than I did on 2.5mg.

GingerLemonTea · 08/05/2024 12:37

@dmott that’s interesting about side effects as I felt them strongly on 2.5 so don’t know if I should be going up to 5 or not next week.

Update on the end of my first week of 7.5mg
I've felt ravenous all week and managed to not cave in, weighed myself this morning and haven't lost anything.
Unusually aswell in that the scales haven't fluctuated one single time the whole week, still exactly the same weight as I was last week - very strange and I've got to say the first week moving upto 7.5mg has not been successful x

Soukmyfalafel · 08/05/2024 13:27

I'm a bit worried about moving up to 7.5mg as it doesn't seem to be working for many. S everyone else finding that. I got mine from med ex and wondering if it's their batch, but i would imagine its all from the same place anyway.

I'm not getting huge affects off 5mg after 4 weeks either, but I'm losing fairly gradually. I just get really bad side effect 2-3 days in, then mild suppression. If I keep losing I don't mind as I need to learn to flex the willpower a bit.

Thanks @lurkylurk good to see everyone has different responses to the 2.5. I’ve another day and a bit until next injection so going to just keep using MFP to track calories. I’ll do my best to stay away from too many snacks until my next injection on Friday and hopefully keep moving in the right direction.

WoolyMammoth55 · 08/05/2024 13:29

@thehousewiththesagegreensofa I take bovine collagen every other day and genuinely can't taste it in drinks - so that might be the way forward? It's a sky blue pot called Vital or something, from Amazon, in case that helps!

BlackFriYay · 08/05/2024 14:13

Day 3 for me after my third(?) 5mg and I'm pleased to report that the 'feeling like total crap 72 hours after injecting' has improved massively and today I feel absolutely fine.

Every other dose up until now had me feeling quite rubbish around the 72hr mark, for a day or so. I learnt that it's because the medication peaks in your system on day 3.

I recall somebody asking whether it gets better and in my case it has, so I hope that helps anybody feeling a bit run down and tired of losing a day or so every week.

OMG! I just took marine collagen for the first time. I thought it was supposed to be tasteless and it really wasn't

It's rank isn't it 😂 I put a small amount of water in my mouth, tip in the collagen and swallow before quickly guzzling down a load more water, I manage to avoid most of the taste that way.

I get my 7.5 from asda, although I wasn't losing much from 5mg I wish I'd stayed on it as I still had food suppression on it x

Fitintomajeans · 08/05/2024 14:20

Hi all, I've been following the threads for the past wee while and I'm so grateful to everyone who post, it's all very inspiring.

Just took my second dose of 2.5mg today and I'm five pounds down, the most amazing thing about that, is, I was away on holiday for four days of the first week.

I've chosen to take this as I am determined to finally sort out my head when it comes to eating, I've tried everything and I'm so exhausted by it all. But most of all I'm so fed up with the first thought that comes to my head when I wake up is, how much do I weigh and what will I eat today, that is the start of the whole day just obsessing about food, weight, dieting etc.

A friend who takes it said some magic words to me.. 'The food chatter in my head has stopped" I knew then, that I had to give it a go. I decided I would also spend the time while on it, making sure I take action to finally rid myself of disordered eating.

I have a discovery call next week with a physiotherapist who specialises in nutrition and eating disorders, and I've been exercising every day and eating smaller portions of whole foods.

I can't believe the difference in just a week. My head is so quiet, it sounds weird to say, but I have space in it. I am calmer at work, so motivated to get stuff done at work and in the house and I feel the happiest I've ever felt in a long time. Who knew how miserable thinking about food all the time could make you!

I'm excited at what this can do to change my life!!!

What are people using the insulation wool for from the boxes?. I've got 4 of the things now and feels wrong to just bin them.

KeepingUndercover · 08/05/2024 14:23

@dmott I'm saving mine up and when I've got enough I can post them back to the company that makes them. I can't remember how many they said they'll accept but possibly 4.

Wonkypictureframe · 08/05/2024 14:30

So lovely to see so many people going well, and some great advice on adjusting to this as normal life.

Since I posted this morning the antibiotics have kicked in and my appetite is finally back. I’ve eaten breakfast and lunch today. I’m quite hungry but given that I’ve only been able to manage a meal a day since last week I think that’s understandable. My first thought when I was hungry for lunch was to ‘treat’ myself at a local cafe and then I realised that this is the sort of thing I need to not do. So I did have some nice cheese and salami from the fridge, but it was far less calorific than a big toastie from the cafe would have been. And given my calorie deficit for the week I don’t think it will be the end of me.

So I’m definitely moving up!

ThirdStorm · 08/05/2024 14:33

@dmott I've kept mine, will come in handy I'm sure.

ThirdStorm · 08/05/2024 14:33

I'm only on day 12 but I found myself snacking last night. No idea why as I wasn't hungry. There are obviously habits I still need to work on!

montysma1 · 08/05/2024 14:34

I can't really believe that there is any biological reason why 7.5mg of a drug would have less effect than 5.0mg or 2 5mg. It totally ontrducta all the graph data .

I am on 7.5mg this week using bonus dose and am well suppressed. I suppose the proof will be in how I get on with the new stuff, but i suspect it's more to how many weeks in we are at this point and how people bodies are adjusting to the drug.

thehousewiththesagegreensofa · 08/05/2024 14:40

I've just taken a dose of bovine collagen and that was fine. There was a bit of an after taste but, after yesterday's experience with the marine, I was expecting it to taste really meaty and it didn't. So that's a relief! I think I will alternate and have one type one day and one the next. Even though the bovine tasted fine, I had a second glass of water to wash it down. I then joined a call and my legs were firmly crossed by the end of it!

ObsidianTree · 08/05/2024 14:41

MedExpress sent me an email asking if I wanted to take part in some research about GLP-1 a little while ago. I thought why not and applied. I got selected to do it! Should be interesting!

I'm going to use up the last of my 5mg to make 7.5gm (using clean needles each time).

Is 30 clicks a full dose or would that give me the 2.5 I need?

I am literally hungry all the time now, and for the first time since I started have snacked the last two days, and still 2 days until my inection day.

Cerialkiller · 08/05/2024 14:49

Hi Everyone, thought I would move over from the newbies thread as i'm taking my 3rd jab tomorrow so not really a newbie anymore. Has anyone had any luck changing providers? I was in a frustrated rush when i ordered my first pen and just accepted the first company that let me order but its over £200 per pen and rising. I have just applied to medexpress and sent photos of me and my current box.

I'm concerned they will want more photos as i've already lost 11lb so i'm already looking smaller then I was before and I had to send additional photos first time anyway. I'm over 30bmi but its well spread over whole body.

Anyone doing keto at the same time?
