Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
https://glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. https://www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
further reading about injection sites and the effects: https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

  • MedExpress 2.5mg and 5mg. £149.99. 7.5mg £169. Use code STARTNOW. Ask for other codes if that doesn't work.
  • The Family Chemist 2.5mg and 5mg -£149. 7.5mg £169.
  • Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 5mg
  • Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. 7.5mg £189
  • Asda 2.5mg and 5mg £184. 7.5mg £189
  • Boots £219 +
  • Chemist4U £179 +
  • Superdrugs

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

@getmeavodka yep, loads of people have the coldness. I’ve been freezing for the last month! I like to think it’s a sign that I’m losing weight 😂

FlappyFish · 02/05/2024 14:08

@getmeavodka oh yes, absolutely a thing! I always have cold hands and feet now.

ihatecoffee · 02/05/2024 14:20

Finally 4lbs off in the last few days!! I've been stuck at 12 st 11lbs for the last three weeks (I've done 3 jabs of 5mg) but zilch, nichts, nada loss!
Weighed myself on Tuesday morning (3rd jab of 5 mgs was Monday night) and I was 12 st 10lbs - a 1lb loss!
Happy days!!!!

Weighed myself today and another 3lbs gone so now 12 st 7lbs!!

The difference?

I drank loads and loads and loads of water!!

Onwards and downwards!!!

Is anyone on the 7.5 dose? I'm moving up next week. My weightloss so far has been very slow and involved a lot of willpower, so I'm hoping this will give me a boost. Having lost no weight but all the side effects going on Wegovy it's been a great move to Mounjaro for me so far.

I moved up to it yesterday. All good so far 🙂

I did my first dose in my belly and had some horrible side effects but I’m not sure if that was because of the injection or site. I’ve done it into my thigh since and it’s been much better. I’m going to carry on with my thigh. Bonus dose this evening 🤞

I am a thigh person, largely because I changed once to my stomach and the whole of the next day was wiped out. Nothing horrific but just bellyache and fatigue. May just have been a coincidence but it has put me off!

guestusername · 02/05/2024 15:18

I’m not thinking about pigging out when I’m holiday. I do intend to enjoy my food and don’t want to undo all my hard work so I’m trying to figure the best way for me to do that

Moanranger · 02/05/2024 15:24

guest user name I think you can be on MJ, titration or otherwise and still enjoy food. The original implication was to come off MJ so that you would not have its appetite suppressing effects. I think that is exactly when you need its appetite suppression!

GloriaBunniford · 02/05/2024 15:50

I'm not sure what's going on with Medexpress.
I ordered my first pen on Tuesday and paid for it. The money has been taken from my bank account. But then I had ID issues due to not having a driving licence to show them and my passport is in my maiden name. So yesterday morning I emailed them my marriage certificate to evidence my surname change. They now have copies of my passport with my name, DOB and face photo, my marriage cert to show my maiden name, my work ID which has my name and a face photo, and a full length photo of me clearly showing my face which matches my passport photo and my work ID photo.
But I'm not hearing anything back from them.

PrimalLass · 02/05/2024 16:03

They were really slow with me then rejected my purchase anyway.

EsotericMnemonic · 02/05/2024 16:05

@GloriaBunniford it took them a couple of days to review my order. I think they stated in my order confirmation that they were experiencing high demand.

EsotericMnemonic · 02/05/2024 16:10

Way up the thread I think there was discussion of why Mounjaro would work when nothing else had. This video is a clear explanation of the effect GLP-1 agonists have on the pancreas and liver (I appreciate that Mounjaro is a GIP as well as GLP-1 agonist).

Why & How Do GLP-1s Work? Mechanism of Action

I am a big believer in understanding the WHY. When I understand the WHY, the better equipped I am to troubleshoot when a problem or new insight arises. So wi...

I'm not sure who started the holiday eating chat but I thought I'd add in my bit as I've just been away.
Holiday was booked before I decided to take MJ. We booked HB plus VIP lounge with unlimited drinks/snacks.
The only change I made was shift my jab a day later the week before as I usually have on sat but wouldn't be home until Monday.

I found the constant food available a total head f*ck. It reminded me that a lot of the time I eat because it's there rather than because I'm hungry. I did have the odd bit of cake or glass of wine but didn't go mad. We walked 20k steps a day and I put on half a pound over the 4 days. I felt like I enjoyed food a bit more than I would at home but didn't think it was worth the gain to miss a dose and eat as normal.

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 02/05/2024 16:47

I've always taken mj in my stomach area, had pretty bad heartburn/indigestion. I read on here that you were supposed to move it around the different areas so I tried thigh for last few weeks. Less side effects there it seems although I don't think it's as strong for suppression.
I saw on TikTok that arm was supposed to be better but you lot say not. Might try it and see next week. I wonder if it's different on people iyswim?

chouxchoux · 02/05/2024 16:57

getmeavodka · 02/05/2024 13:56

Apologies if this has already been mentioned as I have only skim read the whole thread. I started last Friday and luckily no side effects apart from a slight headache on the first day. I have noticed however that I am really cold all the time. My hive says it's 19.5 in my house but I am in a jumper and still freezing. Is that a thing??

Definitely a thing for me. I'm bloody freezing, constantly!

chesterlestreet · 02/05/2024 17:07

@MelissaLouRocks thanks for the collagen info, will really help with the protein targets too

On what grounds did your order get rejected?

Yes I have moved my day to a day earlier on the 2.5mg dose it was fine.

Wonkypictureframe · 02/05/2024 17:26

I’ve jabbed in the stomach every time and had very few side effects.

PrimalLass · 02/05/2024 17:31

@GloriaBunniford I am hypothyroid and take non-standard medication for it.

YouAreEffluentKim · 02/05/2024 17:45

I've done my left arm twice and had good suppression. The first time was 2 weeks ago and I lost nearly 2kg that week. The second time was last night and I am so full from my lunch still that I can't imagine how I'm going to eat dinner!

Based on my experience I won't be doing my arm when I'm moving up a dose for the first time but will save it to try and break a stall!

Hi @ObsidianTree thanks for the nice organised updates of the new threads and the general info upfront.
By the way have we any new disvcount codes for MedExpress. The DOSE20 has apparently expired.

Hey,

We aren't sure on new codes yet. I have heard that the following may work

CONSULT-BLOOM
STARTNOW

hopefully there might be some more codes soon

I agree that stopping a dose to enjoy food on holiday is potentially dangerous. It would be for me, and that’s what I’m basing this post on.

I could choose to eat more on MJ than I am. I choose not to, because suppression is there and it makes me feel unwell.

If I was to stop a dose for a week I order to “enjoy” the food there I’m not sure I would enjoy it. I’d be thinking well, I will gain and I’m undoing all the work I am putting in to train my body to have more normalised patterns.

For me, it seems a way to continue disordered eating. Take MJ. Good. Don’t. Eat whatever and manage it later. It’s no different to the “on a diet, can’t have this” and then binging and feeling guilt and shame and then having the eff it moment. Then trying to get back on track whilst feeling despondent that “nothing works.”

I can eat whatever I want on MJ. I just don’t want to as it’s a tool.

Again, just my opinion and I’ve said all along the psychology behind this is the hardest part.

Whilst I wholeheartedly agree with everything you've said, and I have no plans to stop MJ for a holiday, I will say that I have no enjoyment from food. I can't eat anything vaguely fatty or unhealthy without feeling sick (I had a total of four chips last night and had low level nausea all morning, I ate a pork sausage at a bbq over Easter and had mild nausea, etc).
I literally eat to get the nutrition and that's it. Mostly bland, low fat protein (chicken breast), salads and leafy veg. And some fibre bran and a banana for breakfast.
I'd be a bit scared to have any alcohol or enjoy a modest dessert or even bit of chocolate because it wouldn't be worth the fall out after. So I can understand someone in my position wanting to go somewhere and enjoy the food (not over indulge) and consider slowing or pausing. I worry my own reaction could lead to disordered eating but I have so much to lose that I figure by the time I need to come off it I will have adapted and no longer turn to food for comfort or enjoyment.
